Why is the near side shaped like a banana?

It has to so the bleachers will connect from both sides. The bleachers go all the way around the field and connect. Then the fieldhouse and weight room and indoor field is going on top of the dome!

It's not shaped like a banana. It only appears that way because this is a panorama photo.

Pretty sure he was just kidding with you. I was about to post something similar about "You ain't seen home cooking until your running back turns the corner on a straight line and suddenly finds himself 5 yards out of bounds."

Is this across the bridge beside the school? And is the picture looking toward old 119?

Looks great!

It's across the bridge but it faces towards the river after it curves if that makes sense lol. Old 119 or 522 is on the right across the tracks and up the mountain. Can't explain just how big it really is!

I haven't been over there in over 3 years and kind of forgot about the curve, but I do remember the bridge.

Looks great. I'd like to attend a game in that place sometime.

OMG, those mountains in the picture are gorgeous!!

Wait til you see the bridge MntHSFootballFan. It's covered in stone now, arching over the river with walking lights. It's unbelieveable. I believe the boosters are selling "bricks" to individuals as a fund raising project that will eventually pave this walkway. You can print 4 lines on each brick, and that will be known as the coal miner's memorial walk. Many people are listing miner's names that have died. Also other things are listed...like I'm going to list Class of 1970!! wooho

Hmmmm if 522 is on the right, doesn't that mean that the home crowd will face the setting sun???? Geez....only one I know of that will do that!!

Sounds nice. I'd like to see that. I guess the last time I was over that way the school had only been open for around 9 months. I'm glad the football field is nearly finished. Attending a game there is on my want-to-do list.

And best wishes to the Black Bears for the rest of the season!

BTW, how much are the bricks? Probably pretty expensive to support a project like that.

No worries Granny Bear! Game time at 7:30PM.

Holy crap. That's gorgeous, the field, bleachers, and scoreboard. Man, definitely going to catch a football game here before I die!
#18
When is the first game at this place?
#19
Happy for Harlan Co. to have such a fine facility. Got family there, and looking forward to seeing a game soon.

Really nice HC.
Well deserved after years of playing on some of the field you have.

Hope its ready by the time Whitley rolls into town.

It won't be ready for the Whitley game. That will be the final high school game out at the old Cawood field though so still something memorable. However, like I said if Harlan County wins the district, I think Whitley will likely knock off the top seed in District 7 and travel to the new field for a regional championship game. So you may still get to see it this year.

Congratulations to Harlan County team and fans. That is a beautiful field, I look forward to seeing the rest of the complex and campus. Just breath taking how beautiful our part of the country can be.

My only beef would be that I don't like fields with tracks around them because it pushes the fans too far back, but that is a minor thing.

Our kids have waited a long time for this...A place they can call home.
