Bell County 21 Whitley County 14
#61
Love to hear all the optimistic talk concerning the Whitley team after hearing a lot of negativity after their opening season loss. Good game guys now just finish the deal and give your fans more of what you're capable of. I said you were better than that first game showed. Finish strong and have that good season we expect!

Daniel_BellCo Wrote:who are you talking about? i didn't see anyone bashing a coach just some fan saying they didn't like the play calling...
I wasnt addressing u as much as bobcats 09.

He doesn't understand the game, and just likes to hear himself on here. By sayin we had awful play calling is bashing a coach and all it is doing is fueling other fans to start these same crap.

I watch the coaches week in a d week out push my son to do what they believe will win a game. Not what fans want to see. It will take some time but we will develop a passing game that fits Peyton and puts him in a winning situation instead of just throwing him to the wolves in his second start.

I just don't want our home fans talking about our coaches cause they work hard for our boys to succeed

Sad I can't believe I hadn't kept up with it good enough to know Oslonian is gone for the year. I really hate that for Bell Co. What a blow to that young man, his team, and his community. Sorry guys.

Congrats on the win in the face of that kind of adversity. Nice effort by Whitley too.
#64
I heard someone say tonight that theres a chance, albeit a small one, but a chance indeed that Oslonian could come back for the playoffs.
Any truth to that?

yeah i agree with you. i would never bash our coaches especially coach mills my cousin! I am glad that we got coach mills he was assiant under dudley for years before taking the job @knox. Coach mills will indeed help peyton develop a nice passing game. yeah we have one the best coaching staffs in the area i think.

I haven't heard i know coach mills said on his radio show that ozzy was done for the season and that he hates it for a senior to go out this way. plus everything hes did the past 3 year putting in for the bobcats understandable so...

If he is out for the rest of the football season, doesnt he play bball? Any chance for that?

this is a quote from the middlesboro daily news...

Bobcat freshman Peyton Collett completed 4 of 6 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown with one interception. He’ll be the starter for the rest of the season as senior Corey Oslonian will be out for the year with his knee injury.

LOG MOUNTAIN — Bell County’s running game came through when they needed it Friday night. Senior back Jonathan Polly broke loose for a 30-yard run with 7:06 to play and the Bobcat defense made those points hold up for a 21-14 win over a game Whitley County squad.

“I knew coming in it was going to be a good football game,” Bell coach Wayne Mills said. “Whitley has a big thing hanging in the weight room that says: ‘Let’s beat Bell County today.’ We’re the only ones they have that for and we’re not even in their district. We’re everybody’s bull’s eye, but our kids never say die. I’m proud of our kids.”

Early on it was a defensive struggle for both sides. Whitley intercepted Peyton Collett on the first play from scrimmage, but Bell’s Jeffrey Saylor recovered a fumble on the following series.

Neither team generated a first down for most of the first quarter. The game turned when the Colonels were stopped on a 4th and short play deep in the own territory and the Bobcats capitalized as Ryan Collett scored on a 21-yard run. Hayden Gilbert’s kick made it 7-0 with 3:11 to go in the quarter.

Bell’s defense held again and Collett scored again, this time from three yards out as Bell went up 14-0 with 6:28 remaining in the half. The big play on that drive was a 17-yard pass from Peyton Collett to Tyler Green to convert on third down.

“They were changing their defense back-and-forth, doing a lot of diving down,” Mills said. “I just think it was a matter of will. We felt like some of our better plays, they were taking away from us. But we just decided that if they can stop it, they can stop it. We’re going to do what we do well.”

It was still 14-0 at the half.

Whitley made some adjustments and got their offense in gear in the second half. Josh Nichols took a pitch and found room to the outside and went 30 yards for a touchdown. Alex Conlin’s kick made the score 14-7 with 3:08 to play in the third.

Bell struggled to move the ball in the third quarter, but they also continued to hold Boston Bryant and the Whitley ground game in check.

Bryant finally broke through with a 28-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter and Conlin’s kick tied the game at 14.

“We won’t see that offense again all year, but they gave us some problems,” Mills said. “(Bryant’s touchdown) was one of the best high school plays as far as inspiration you’ll see. We had him on the ground and that kid came out there and scored.”

Bryant finished with 58-yards on 15 carries.

Bell County answered with their best drive of the night and Polly capped it with that 30-yard TD run that proved to be the game winner.

“Being in that Bryan Station game kind of prepared us for tonight. I don’t think we panicked and that’s a sign of a good football team,” Mills said. “That’s what I was proud of. (On Polly’s run) Smiley got a good kick out, Tan and Dylan got a good double-team and Polly found the end zone. He’s a warrior.”

Polly finished with 73 yards on 12 carries while Collett had 88 yards on 13 runs to lead the Bobcats. Peyton Collett finished 3-of-7 passing for 27 yards and one interception. Green had all three catches for 27 yards.

Bell County (3-1) has an open date next week before starting district play at home against Wayne County on Sept. 21.

Whitley County (1-2) plays at Clay County next Friday.

Our offense is unusual. Not a lot of teams run it, because, for the most part, it can be very complicated, especially to younger teams with the motions and fakes.
Bryant did have one of the more memorable plays ive seen in a long time. Never stopped running

Not many high schools teams run the triple option out of a spread wing t offense lol.

We were in shotgun more tonight than we were under center and we threw for -3 yards.
#73
Nichols touched the ball once and scored, but i think he started cramping and we couldnt really get him back into the groove.

Impressed with the Bell newspaper getting the stats out so quick. Good job on that one guys.

Maybe the O caller was having a bad night! There was turmoil at the Middelsboro game with some coaches i heard tonight! Hope everything will be ironed out and everyone can get back to normal!!! But i agree you cant put down your own play calling! Way to go BOBCATS
#75
I said closer than the Bell ans wanted Whitley was in my mountain top 10 at #6. Schedule from here on gets easier for Bell and may hurt them in the playoffs.

Thanks for the kind words. Def wasn't the same plays that was called at Station and Middlesboro game. Peyton performed great in them two games. I never put Peyton down. I def wasn't the ONLY fan grumbling over the play calls tonight.

Daniel_BellCo Wrote:Yea i agree too much running up the middle, whitley was clogging the middle up all night.. most of our successful runs where to the outside..

Eactly. No mixing up the O last night at all. That's my only complaint. I've been to all the games this year home and away and last night def wasn't the same calls I've seen the other 3 games.
#78
Some fans take things serious on here just from saying needed to open the playbook up. Did I EVER put Mills, Hoskins, Crawford down saying their terrible? No. Just said we needed to mix things up. About the cave man, I think a LOL came after that statement which means joking.
#79
If you have 5 guys along the sidelines at a football game, you're gonna have 5 DIFFERENT opinions of how the offense should be handled. That's not counting the 6th opinion from the o-coordinator and the 7th from the head coach, etc etc etc

Gut was about to bust his gut over their O!!

Anyway, I've never seen Mills bashed on this thread...as well he shouldn't be! Just a little arm chair coaching.
#80
the people that was saying it was gonna be a blowout obviously doesnt know much football, whitleys offense is very hard to stop especially if u have a good QB and a full back. bc its one of the few offenses like this. i knew coach mills was worried all week about this game as was i, but with bell having a inexperinced QB we have to keep things convservative, you dont wanna get a boys confidence down, but IMO before collett graduates he has the capablity to rank of one of the best Qb's to ever play for bell county
#81
Look out Bobcats!!!!! The Black Bears are on your schedule again.
#82
Whitley Co. should be able to play with Harlan Co. if they can stay injury free.

BellCoBobcats09 Wrote:Great game. Bell O was awful tonight. Play calling was awful. Not taking away from Whitley.

IMO this is bashing. And these comments on a public message board is a cancer for a program. I understand you paid to get in the game and I'm sure ur a loyal fan and love bell county football like I do but don't question a coach on a message board. Talk to ur wife about it talk to ur kids about it just don't put it in everybody's mind that reads it on here.

Again I trust these coaches to prepare my kids for every game. Not a fan who sits and watches games and who doesn't understand all the logistics to a game.

I'm not asking u to stop supporting our program I'm just asking u not to post negative comments about our coaches on a board

Not sure how long youve been a member pureathlete, but this isnt exactly out of the ordinary for any team.
Its a public open forum, and he stated his opinion. For the most part, he was right. Bell played way to one dimensional, however, with a frosh qb playing a stout defense, its to be expected to be conservative.
Its just talk.
#85
I have always said that the Bobcats lack of a passing game always kills them in the playoffs and state finals.
#86
When you hang a whistle around your neck for a living you agree to have your performance analyzed, applauded, and criticized publically. That comes with the job. Personal attacks are rude but disagreeing with a coach's playcalling is common and not wrong at all.

As to the question itself - Bell had fewer options than it is accustomed to with a young QB at the helm. Oslonian is a SR QB who is one of the best pure athletes in this area. Not easy to replace. Still, it is fair to expect with a week of prep you could have your young QB prepared to do more than hand off to the dive.
#87
I missed this one bad, Oh well only time I've been wrong all year. Cong: to Whitley Co. for playing so well. Cong: to Bell on the win.
