Lexington Catholic took advantage of their passing attack and put Corbin away fairly quickly and cruised to a victory.

Goes to show how much the Corbin squad has lost since that 7th grade team won state.

They have lost several players off that team, they actually they won the state as 8th graders, but they also have 6 sophomores who are starting on the varsity, which weakens the JV team.

Just nine, who are now sophs, from the group that won state. I know they had 4 or 5 transfer to other area schools and the others must have decided not to play. There are only about 8 left in the class above them that were middle school state runner-ups, with arguably 3 of the top 4 or 5 from that class not playing.

There were 35 kids on the 8th grade team that won State. There are 16 of those kids remaining. We lost a couple to surrounding schools and we had several quit. However, we also added to the group a couple key transfers. I'm not sure where you got the number 9 unless you were referring only to the starters from that group.

A 7th or 8th grade state champion is a joke! Most kids in middle school leagues aren't competiting for this title you think Corbin won. Do you really think this was the best 7th or 8th grade team in the state? If so, maybe I could interest you in my oceanfront property in Nebraska.

Yes Corbin was the best team in the State when they won it in 2010. As was Bell/Bluegrass Middles (feeder in Hardin Co) 2008, Bowling Green 2009, and Northern Pulaski 2011.

Oh wait you mean to tell me that Bell Co. and Hardin Co. schools don't have any talent in their senior class and Bowling Green definitely isn't one of the better teams in the state. Maybe you just need to sit back and enjoy you a nice beverage on that ocean front property you own in Nebraska, or maybe you have already consumed too many.

If your of the belief that all the middle school teams were playing for that title you really are delusional.

I always heard it was a money scam, had to pay to be eligible and play. WHY?
09-05-2012, 12:48 PM
Highlands, Trinity, and St.X don't even have middle school teams. Louisville and Lexington middle schools don't compete in this tournament. There are tons of people not entering the tournament.

This isn't a money scam the KYMSFA is going to greatly improve Kentucky Football at all levels. If the school you're associated with isn't on board then you're missing out.

I know not all the middle school teams in the state were playing for the title, only the best were.

Lexington schools still prefer a little league system for all their middle schools. This is the same system that was in place for middle schools in louisville until 2 years ago. There are over 20 Louisville schools that are members. No school in Louisville has a designated middle school. They are basically on an "Open Recruitment". After 8th grade all middle school players meet with Coaches of different Louisville High Schools to determine where they want to attend.

A State Cahmpionship at the middle school level is still a state championship.
Corbin must have been doing something right to beat all of those teams.
How can it not mean anything when almost every single middle school in the state is now apart of the KMSFA?
Thats like saying Highlands state title are bull shit because they didnt have to play Trinity to get one.

Williamsburg is one of the top 1A teams in the state and led by a core of sophomores. Williamsburg was arguably the second best middle school team in the state 2 years ago after winning a Division 3 title. Pretty sure that title had some relevance to their now high school success.

I know 9 sounded low, but that is what the KHSAA lists. Who are they missing? They have these sophomores listed:
Anderson
Combs
Coppock
Ingle
Ledford - transferred in
Nantz - not sure if he played or not
ONeil
Powers
W. Reedy
Taylor
Woodruff - did not remember if he played

Who does the money go to?
How does a MS team benefit from it?
If you pay and dont qualify, then how does it help your team?

The 16 sophomores remaining on the team from 8th grade include: Anderson, Williams, Bruck, Rose, Woodruff, O'neil, William Reedy, Moore, Powers, Taylor, Lawson, Razmus, Coppock, Bunch, Farris, and Ingle.
Ledford transferred from South and Nantz from Whitley. Not sure where Combs came from or if he just didn't play.

I realize this wasn't the entire 8th grade team that beat up Lex Cath 56-28 in the state finals a few yrs ago but Lex Cath only had 7 or 8 sophmores themselves. They only broght 19 kids with them and when I watched Corbin warm up before the game I was pretty sure that it might be a long night for Catholic. They had 4 jrs. and 7 freshmen. Can anybody tell me how Corbin's jv team has done this yr so far? Reguardless of score Corbin seemed to have a very nice jv team.

Three kids that started on the 8th Grade State Championship played in this game.

Has anybody won a middle school championship AND a state chamionship?
Highlands, Trinity, etc. are not in this league...that should say something.

Well considering that this senior class is the first to have ever played in the middle school state tournament I don't think you have a good enough sample size to back your argument. With that said refer to previous posts about Trinity and Highlands not being members of this Association.

Let's expand the argument based on your logic. Since this is only the 5th year of the Kentucky Middle School Football Association. And the first 7th and 8th graders to compete for a middle school State Championship are now Juniors and Seniors respectively let's see if any of these teams have been relevant.
2008
7th- Bowling Green
8th- Bluegrass (John Hardin)
2009
7th- Corbin
8th- Bowling Green and Somerset
2010
7th- Northern Pulaski
8th- Williamsburg, Corbin, and SW Pulaski
2011
7th- SW Pulaski
8th- Somerset, LCA, Northern Pulaski
So Logically the teams from 2008 and 2009 are the only ones that the kids have legitimately had the chance to establish their selves on Varsity. And according to you Somerset, John Hardin, and Bowling Green must not be relevant.
BTW yes Bowling Green has won a middle school and high school state championship.

The Lex Cath deal is what i was referring to before our resident trolls showed up.
They dont keep up with middle school football so they obviously didnt know it was Lex Cath that Corbin throttled in that state title game.
Thats why my statement was a surprise to how much this team has fell apart over the last couple of years.
It had relevancy.

Well considering its only been around for a few years its kind of hard to go by that.
Having an organized middle school association, IMO, is key to helping further develop the players because it gives them a chance to play teams from around the state. I know when i was in middle school we only played teams within a 30 minute to an hour radius of us. Last year, Whitleys middle school team got to play teams like Bowling Green and so on. Never would of had that chance without it.

Can somebody tell me the point of this? Are we trying to blame Jewell because the kids aren't playing anymore? Are we blaming the kids for quitting? Are we giving Catholic credit for getting better with high school coaching? What is going on here?

That Corbin team has nothing to be ashamed of. I wish that championship bunch would have stayed together. It is great to hear that a lot of them are playing on a VARSITY level.
When it comes to LC their QB Reese Ryan is everything you want in your in signal caller. Strong arm, makes great descions, and can take over a game at any moment. When you line up with a 6'5 weapon at WR and a reliable TE, at times this team is tough to stop. With targets like Couch and Hatton the future looks bright. Every freshman and JV game Ryan has played in the Knights are 15-0 with this sophmore QB
