Russell @ Ashland 9/7

Thoughts and predictions.

The devils have improved a lot offensively. However on defense i don't think they can contain all the playmaker Ashland has on the offensive side of the ball. Should be a good first 3 quarters but the devils tire out late.

Tomcats 42

Devils 21

Russell has the potential to make this a game, for the first half anyway. After that, the depth and speed of Ashland will be too much for the Devils to handle.

This will be a great game. To close to call. If russell holds down on the mistakes. It will be close.

Russell has to improve its tackling to have a chance. Ironton just wore them down to pull away in the second half.

Ashland has the speed but not the size Ironton had.

Should be a fun one.

I would say Ashland has more speed than Ironton
#11
This game will be fun for somebody, just not Russell !!

Ashland has a lot of fast kids. Baker, sallow, massey,O'bryan, Younge all can run. Maybe not as all as quick as Lewis but still fast none the less

For 5 in a row.

An talking about speed they only used Jackson on special teams against GW. I say he gets lots more playing time against Russell. Quinton said. He was going to break 100 yds against Russell said he wants 150. We'll See.

Hope to see the Red Devils win. But Ashland has just to much talent. Just don't want to see quit from the SIDELINES. Play hard every down and get ready for district play. This SR class has the talent just need some JR's to step up and get ready to play and give them the rest they need.

Ashland 42 Russell 13. I think Ashland is the better conditioned team. Russell has two good guards and a very talented Qb. Hayes is a playmaker. However, If ashland stuffs the trap, I think it will be difficult for russell to otherwise move the ball. I don't know much about the receiving corps for the devils. If evans opens it up some, he may have some early success in the first half. Conditioning And Ashlands front 6 on D will likely be the difference in this one.

I will say this. If Ashland is gonna wear down Russell it's not gonna be the same way Ironton did. The tigers physically punished the devils. Ashland will have to wear them down by running there speed. So let's not just assume Russell is out of shape. Ironton physically dominated them. But in a running athletic game the story might be different.

It's hard to duplicate how big and physical Ironton was. If Ashland Blazer Plans on wearing Russell down it will be by tempo, not brute force.

One thing in Russell's defense is that was the first they had been tested this year. After a bye in week one they just went through the motions with the starters basically playing a half against Greenup County. I think The Ironton game will do them some good. Yes they were gassed but they got a look at some different people under fire. I think we will see some changes on defense with some younger kids getting some meaningful reps to give those offensive starters a blow.

We got to look at the spread and who could be the recievers. Hayse, Huffine, Howard and Cathey all have good hands and can make plays.

This game will be decided by both defenses. Unfortunately I think Asland Blazer has the better defense.

I agree completely I think offensively Russell is very good. And if they get the defense fixed they could pose a threat to belfry in the playoffs this year

I did not see the Ironton game. I understand that their OL goes about 1,400 lbs from tackle to tackle. That is pretty big. Certainly, I can see why Ironton's size was a factor in the game last week. Ironton may do the same think against Ashland as well. If you recall, Ironton moved the ball fairly well against Ashland last year. However, I still believe that conditioning and depth are issues for Russell. They start 8 or 9 guys both ways. While Ashland has a number of 2 way starters, they are able to get some rest with quality substitutes throughout the game. By the middle of the third quarter, the conditioning and depth will make a difference in my opinion. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the game and am hopeful that everybody on both teams remains healthy and injury free.

Article on the game from the daily independent.

Coach McGlone is right. Have to tackle better.

Kind of surprised at the lack of chatter this week. Is this rivalry starting to become this lackluster. If this was Ashland-JC or Russell-Raceland this thing would be 4 or 5 pages

Seems like not to many from either side on here saying to much?
Maybe the only way to get the fire burning in this one again is for Russell to win tomorrow night...

Looks like the flames are gonna burn out cause I don't see the streak ending this year.
