Yeah, I never predict games. Even last year I didn't predict games if you noticed. To me, it's bad luck. I don't even vote on polls in the Rockcastle games.

agreed, Im biting mine as well.....lol, THE ROCK has totally changed this season based on blocking/cutting and pass defense, WELL our pass defense hasnt clicked last few years.....ALOT of adjustments must be made before gametime or once again another struggle will amass. This game vs. Estill County is one of ROCK's origin opponents dating back to 1972. These 2 teams will go @ it for the 20th time in the series, Estill WILL as far as rival records: #1. become the 7th school that ROCK has played 20 or more times, others schools (Knox,Bell,Whitley,Lynn Camp,Lincoln,and Wayne) #2. ROCK Field will see it's 80th game played in the month of September since 1975. (59-20)

ROCK vs ESTILL series:

1972= ROCK 28, Estill 0
1973= ROCK 14, Estill 12
1974= ROCK 18, Estill 19
1975= ROCK 0, Estill 41
1976= ROCK 0, Estill 21
1977= ROCK 28, Estill 0
1978= ROCK 0, Estill 6
1979= ROCK 0, Estill 30
1980= ROCK 12, Estill 32
1981= ROCK 26, Estill 38
1995= ROCK 18, Estill 10
1996= ROCK 21, Estill 6
1997= ROCK 41, Estill 12
1998= ROCK 38, Estill 9
1999= ROCK 34, Estill 0
2000= ROCK 68, Estill 0
2001= ROCK 55, Estill 0
2002= ROCK 55, Estill 16
2011= ROCK 55, Estill 19

Rock will take out all of its frustration this week..........Estill is perhaps the weakest team in the state. The stars just don't line-up for Estill this week.

Where has the Rock been for the last few years? I remember them crushing Highlands one year. I also remember them beating Covcath on the road. They were a fixture in November. Has the enrollment changed? Coaching? Youth programs? Why are they not playing at the quality level they used to play?

They are far from the weakest team in the state. Are you forgetting Jenkins, Atherton, Powell County, Jackson County among others that aren't up to par with the rest of the states powerhouse teams

A co-worker of mine went to see the Wayne - Estill game, was amazed at how sub-par they were. I mean no disrespect to the young men who play for any of those teams. It says a lot about a person who just enjoys the game regardless of the teams outcome.

Wayne would give Breathitt and Belfry a run for their money, that's how good they are this year. Plus two of Estill's players are out for the season including our starting QB.

Rock by as many as they want.

I agree, Wayne is looking pretty darn good so far. Perhaps the loss at QB was what he was referring to about Estill's trouble during that game in handling the snap & handoffs. Hope they work through this and have a successful season, and as always. I always hate to see one of these young men loose a playing season. Good luck to both teams in this match-up.

Estill has played 2 teams in the top 10 in class 3A, Breathitt and Wayne. Plus a very good Morgan co. team. Estill is nowhere near the weakest team in the state.

The 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2006 graduating classes for Rock were filled with once in a lifetime players. Since the 2006 class left, even Tom Larkey had drop offs. The State title contending talent isn't there anymore. Not all of this lays at the feet of the players though. Part of being a great coach means you can adapt to fit the skills of the players OR you develop them to fit your scheme.

Even "Blast Right" Tom Larkey would pass the ball some when he had players like Josh Hale, Aaron Anderkin, Parsons, Shawn Childress and Matt Burkhart. When I say pass, I mean actually down the field pass, not screen right and screen left.

Larkey was very blessed to have a few MEN on his offensive line. I went to the Rock-Whitley game recently and I didn't see a single David Robbins, Brad Durham, Jason Leger, Donovan Pigg, etc... There are a good lineman or two but the overall SIZE on the line is down. You cannot pound the rock 40-50 times per game AND WIN with a line filled with people less than 240. (Maybe I am off on measurements, I did not get a close-up look, and some of them appeared taller than usual, so maybe the height makes up for the difference across the chest and arms.)

Rock seems to have ran into an overall talent lull in all male sports because the baseball team isn't winning Region anymore, the boys basketball team is a perennial basement dweller and football hasn't sniffed a Regional title in 6-7 years.

A large part I put on the WHOLE coaching staff, yet still I blame the players too. You see a killer instinct on very few faces anymore. I remember on Friday nights you could look in the players faces and know they were either going to beat you or they were gonna flatten you, either way, you would know you played the Rockets. I get that from some players, but not nearly enough.

Estill had a very elusive, ball fake oriented offense last year that decieved the good defensive team Rock had last year. The Estill defense lacked to some degree last year, but, the offense was pretty doggone good. I'm not counting any chickens before they hatch and I'm not posting a prediction.

Sorry SK. Rock fans should have something to celebrate on Friday night.
