4 yards, why in the world do schools play other schools like this. What do you gain, yea you get to pound your chests for a week but it doesnt prove anything.

I spent too long of a time last year trying to explain to people who don't know what they're talking about, the ins and ours of making a football schedule. So I'm not going to waste another post after this one on that same subject.

Fact of the matter is, the two Virginia teams that we normally play will probably not renew after this year. This leaves us two games down. So far this season, we've traveled to Lexington, KY, Morristown, TN and last night we played a team that came from Gate City, VA. All this travel just to make a full playing schedule.

So, taz....if you know of ANYONE within a decent travel time......say 3 hrs driving.....that wants to play, please post it and let us know. Next year's schedule is is jeopardy, and we NEED games.

Can you honestly think that anyone would CHOOSE to schedule teams that "think" are weaker?? Go pound your chest.

i say Belfry would answer, i hope they can get that worked out, or maybe Harlan County can call Pike county bowl and say they want to play in it..

^^
That's a good idea as long as the games aren't played in the afternoon!!!! LOL

By the way, Belfry IS a strong possibility...trying to work out details now, but certainly looks promising.
Breathitt and Hazard so far won't be on the schedule. Not sure if they can't or won't. As far as St.X, Highlands and Boyle are concerned, I don't know if they've been contacted or not. But I doubt they would consider the drive......remember I said 3 hrs.

I took you question seriously...hope you meant it that way.

Breathitt and hazard will not play us. HC have tried to schedule both the last two scheduling years. They other ton already said no to this year for the next two years at least. Playing Louisville schools would be a 4 hr trip on bad roads, crazy idea.

great job bears!

good to see the JV get so much playing time last night.....
what about Massey. he was fireing on both sides of the ball.

What a win for the Black Bears!! Congrats Harlan County!!!

As far as needing teams to play next season. I would think that you could play atleast one of the Pulaski County schools!

I thought we already did, but maybe I'm thinking about the bowl games.

Belfry and the Pulaski Co. schools are still two hours away but as long as they aren't Bowl games and they come to Harlan I'm all for it! The last four years we've had to travel two hours to start the season! I just want to play our first game at home once in a while. I really don't mind the traveling when I've got a van full of Black Bear Nation riding with me, that's half the fun!
#21
congrats!!
#22
Congrats Bears!!!!
#23
Will the black bears get to play on their new field this year?
#24
Pic of the new field if it shows up.

Everyone loves to criticize our schedule.....no one wants to come play us. We are a little tired of traveling....like I have ALWAYS said...if you want some...come get some...we are not gonna travel every single game just to schedule who people think we should....look at the top 5 in the mountains...we play Bell every year...we also play in the strongest overall class 5A plus Knox Central...the only real teams left are Belfry, Breathitt, and JC. I would bet my grapes HC would love to trade I high, Lee High, and Gate City for a home and home against these three....the gate at each place would be huge! We always get blamed for the games not happening....I say to these teams and fans....step up or shut up! For the last time....IF You want some come and get it....sign a home and home with us....if your jabbering and your team can't play...step out of the conversation. It's really down to Belfry, Breathitt, & JC....maybe Boyle or Danville...but you have to be willing to come to our place to get us to come to yours....What is so hard to understand about that?

Everybody acts like they are on the "inside" when it comes to scheduling, whether its for their team or not.

Its extremely hard to schedule, especially around here when your a bigger school.
I do not blame HC for playing out of state schools, its the only option they have.
#27
Field looks great by the way.

How close it is to the field theyve been playing on?
#28
Gate City also has some probs when it comes to scheduling... they just kicked off a 4-state tour w/ HC. After a hop south into TN and a home game, they go to Bluefield, WV.
And, yes, GC is down this year.
