What does everyone think of Jason Booher as the Head Coch of Shelby Valley. How does he compare to the great Rodney Rowe and why do you think he's killed our program?

Be careful, this thread will be watched closely.

Tell me what you mean by killed? Is there something happening the world does not know about? I do not know Booher or his background. Shed some light on the subject florida fan:confused:

Look at the records from both coaches... 'nuff said!!

Booher is a great coach, he simply does not haver the talent that Roe had. How can you say Roe was so great. He did a good job with the X's and O's but he no control of his players. If he would have had some discipline he would still be there today. As for Booher he is great coach, very positive. Only bad thing i can say about him was the way the beat the David School

I don't understand the "killed" part.

No one respects the Wildcats anymore... perhaps that is what he was talking about.

I think he may be talking about the dominance SV had over the 15th region for some time, which is definitely no longer the case. Just some stats to consider:
Year Record against 15th Region
99/00 16-5
00/01 19-1
01/02 21-1
02/03 16-2
03/04 15-2
04/05 17-1
05/06 4-6
The combined record against 15th region teams from 99/00 through 04/05 was 104-12. The record this season is 4-6, and 2 of those wins were over David. The fans in the SV area have seen alot of talent in recent years, and I think most will agree that the talent level this season has not dropped off enough to warrant a season that has been as disappointing as this one.

Did you think to consider that maybe the other teams in the region have gotten better over this period? IMHO, the talent level has gone down at SVHS.

My thoughts on Jason Booher..........I'm glad he's not at Belfry anymore...
01-18-2006, 01:09 PM
Why?
01-18-2006, 01:18 PM
Homegrown, you sound close to the program at SV so what is going on? You say Booher is a great coach so why are most of the people on here giving him a hard time? I do not understand at all . I watched SV play on delay last night and from what I saw SV showed little patience and that hurt them late but to me it was just another ballgame.

Ok, as far as the talent here at SV, we have plenty of it, the only unfortunate thing is the fact that most of the talent sits on the bench. You can talk to former players who have quit under Booher's Coching. Great Talents, Colby Newsome, Mike Bartley, Donovan Bentley, and Kyle Goodson are some pretty good players. Shalby Valley has a 7-8 record this year with two wins coming over David School. Yes, a lot of teams are better this year, and have a lot of talent, but with Mitchell Riddle, john Johnson, Cade Riddle, Jeremy Jackson, Jacob Bryant, Gary Thomas, and very young talent like Logan Bryant and Elisha Justice, Valley could be a very deep team.
I'll finish this post later tonight when I have more time, because I have much to say on this subject.

coach booher is horrible
01-18-2006, 06:02 PM
i think that rodney rowe is the best coach to ever come out of the program even the vigie, dorton days..
what happened to coach rowe was there was just to much power for him to compete with he got drove out of valley. it dont matter who coaches at sv there always going to be compared to coach rowe and they are always going to come up short.
booher maybe a good coach but he is not rodney rowe

Why does this guy get so much heat?

Because nobody respects this man. I might not know much about basketball but i believe in any sport you have to respect your coach, you might not like him but every coach should have their players respect...

Good point.

Of the games I have seen Valley he doesn't make any in-game adjustments and doesn't have any offensive sets. Also he doesn't take advantage of the size he has, needs to get Cade Riddle and Johnson more involved in the offense instead of letting the guards shoot their arm off.

Does the dislike for Booher at SV have anything to do with the fact he is not from the Dorton or Virgie area?
Does the fact that SV is down this year really cause a program to be "killed" as was said in an earlier post?
Does SV's record this year have anything to do with less than average guard play?
01-19-2006, 09:31 AM
A person has to ask why SV is having a down year. There middle schools program has always been one of the top in the state for the last 4 or 5 years. How many experienced or upper classmen have they had to quit playing this year? That could be the reason people think they are down. If the players that are sitting the bench are better than the ones on the court, then something is wrong there. I think the valley program was in much better hands and will be in much better hands again soon. That is for whoever takes it over once Booher is gone.
01-19-2006, 10:25 AM
A lot of the problems with Booher are the management of his players. Really great talent such as Gary Thomas is left sitting on the bench for the percentage of the game with only 4 minutes of playing time. He is a well-rounded ball player and was very proven under Rowe, but for the last two years under Booher and is being underused and misused. The other players not playing are in part, because of Booher. Why are these other talents not on the court, because Booher has drove them off the team. As far as Rowe goes, it would be great to have him back, with the team we actually have here at Valley right now, I'm 100% confident we would be right in the mix for the 15th region title. It's only a hope though, as our players no heart when they play for Booher. This program has been such a contender for so many years and as long as we have such a mediocre coach as Jason Booher, we will not be a 15th region power. Bring back Patino and Rowe.

Has Greg Newsome ever applied for the head coaching job at Shelby Valley?
He has done a tremendous job at the middle school and it isn't just because he has overwhelming talent.

Amen to that, jones! If only everyone else would see that maybe Valley would become the contender they used to be.

So many of us wish he would but to my knowledge he hasn't yet. I think it's a crying shame when we had one of the top Freshman teams last year in the state and can't win with that kind of talent. We need new blood on the coaching staff starting at the top.

As for me it has absolutely nothing to do with where he is from but everything to do with why with so much talent are we still losing games to teams that are not. I wouldn't care if he was from Mars....if he could take the talent we have and rock the state with it.
