Pirates explode, start subbing halfway through the 2nd Quarter, starters don't see a second half snap.
Trenity Carr is going to be a breakout player.
Pirates looked really good.

Belfry had 3 starters in street clothes in this game. #54 Zach Taylor (o-line, 6'0' 264) #71 Michael Barnes (o-line/NG, 6'4" 347), and #10 Zach Fransisco (OLB, 6'0 180)
Timmy May (#18) really played well IMO in reserve for Fransisco. Coaching staff finally did what they needed to do and worked Joey Duty in on the o-line. He started tackle tonight and wore #64. He also started DT and will likely revert to a backup role on the o-line when Barnes and Taylor get back, but I like working him for depth.
Robinson, Johnson, Warren, Carr - all look explosive. BUT, I don't think you can overstate how poor the competition was in Harrison Co. I am sure Coach Haywood and anyone tied to the Belfry program wished we had played a better opponent the week before having Henry Clay come to town.
Will WYMT keep putting these horrible blowout games on TV just because it is the Pike Co. Bowl? Get some **** competition in there!

BTW, 28-0 at end of first. 46-0 at half. EKU was right. No starters saw the field in the second half and frosh took over after first couple series. Harrison never played anyone other than starters in second half. I feel sorry for Harrison with their schedule.

I think Zach Thacker may be my favorite Pirate on this year's team. He is, by no means, a very big kid...but man alive that boy will lay the wood.
WYMT stole my thunder a little because the thing I was most surprised with was the downfield blocking. I can't remember the last time I saw a Belfry team finishing their blocks downfield like that.
I think Thacker and the blocking combined illustrate what I see as this Belfry teams greatest strength. Not only is this team quick and athletic, but I think you are going to see a team who is much more aggressive then your typical Belfry team. These guys with 2 or 3 years of starting experience are very confident and seem to attack on defense instead of reading. Offensively, Carr and Johnson both looked very impressive hitting the hole aggressively and getting their shoulders square and attacking defenders instead of trying to side step them. Even in special teams you see Robinson looking to make a play with the punt returns whereas in years past Belfry was content to let it bounce.
Next week is going to be a whole new world and I am sure some points of concern will arise, but I really liked what I saw.

Madison Ghormley is a freakin beast out there folks. Very impressed with his play.
Still, we just really have no idea what to make of this game because Harrison was so weak. I left at halftime.

Don't know exact stats:
Carr was around 130 yards on 5 carries and 2 TD
Johnson was around 60 yards on 2 carries with a TD
Sani was around 40 yards on 2 carries with a TD
At Halftime Belfry had outgained them something like 270 to 54 and that was with Harrison having 3 or 4 more offensive posessions (2 defensive TD's, punt return TD, Harrison received the opening kick)

Glad that Belfry won, but its said to see that this is what the PIKE COUNTY BOWL HAS TURNED INTO.

Tough news for Belfry, looks like Davontae Dari will miss the remainder of the season. Hate to see a kid have to go through something like that.

Hate to hear about Dari. He appears to be a very exciting player. Here's hoping for good news.
About the game: First team looked very sharp both ways. Offensive line created space anytime they needed to. Defensively, Belfry has the potential to be a beast. Strong play up front and @ the linebacker position. Time will tell regarding the secondary. Unfortunately, Harrison Co is simply awful. If anyone is on here from Cynthiana....what's going on up there??? From what I understand...they got rid of Mark Carroll ( a Belfry Alum)...that despite their record last year...appeared to be getting better. Where are all your kids? Program has really fallen off since the days we played a Ray Graham coached team in the Pike Co Bowls.

Anyone no where to find a replay of the game?

justin johnson only touched the rock one time friday night second play from scrimage on first poss. runs 56 yd tochdown and never touched the rock again i wish he did get 2 carries
08-28-2012, 01:06 PM
As long as they win as a team, in the end that's what's most important!! Only a parent would complain about carries! Johnson did carry the ball twice, if you stop going to the press box complaining about touches, you might know that as well!!
08-29-2012, 10:58 AM
Jeez. JJ had 2 carries. Sani had 2 carries, Carr had 5 and Robinson had 0. Belfry scored on basically every touch. What the hell do you expect man?

I am watching this one on VHS now and thought why not post on it, sorry if this upsets anyone.
Overall Belfry looked as good as a team can this early into the season.
The kicking game, extra points would worry me a lot.
Harrison County, sadly looked as poorly as a team could.
To me it looked like they were mismatched in every aspect of the game.
To their credit it did look like on tape that they never quit trying.
