20 Best KY HS Football Programs over the last 20 years (1992-2011).
First, a list of teams that played in the state championships was used as a starting point. There are 60 high schools that have had a team in the state finals in those 20 years. The following teams have been in the finals at least six times during that time, when teams are tied, they are listed them in alphabetical order (the number championship that they won during the last 20 years are in parenthesis): Highlands 13 (11), Trinity 13 (10), Beechwood 12 (9), Mayfield 9 (4), St. Xavier 9 (6), Boyle County 8 (7), Danville 8 (5) , Newport Central Catholic 7 (3), Bowling Green 6 (2) and Male 5 (3).
Second, the KHSAA.org website was used to obtain the team records for each of the last 20 years. This was used to calculate their total number of wins, their winning percentage and the number of winning seasons during that timeframe. While doing this, several other schools were added to the list. These were teams, such as Henderson County and Ashland Blazer, with high winning percentages that had not been in a state championship game during those 20 years.
Once this was done, several lists were calculated:

5. Mayfield
6. Bowling Green
7. Danville
8. Boyle County

This may be the best post in the football forum ever. I obviously had Rock listed too low. If a completely statistical analysis says they are a top 20 team, I cannot argue and it makes me happy.

First of all :worthy: and :1:
Great analysis. If there is any critique I would have it is that every accomplishment is equal. That's fine. But the "x" factors would be for example: A team compiles a great winning % vs. weaker competition but has few titles to show for it. Getting to State Titles is an honor, but if winning few of those matchups is the result, how do you reward the difference and by how much?
Would a weighted scale be more prudent?
For example: Give a value place of 3 points to State Championships and 1 point to State Finals appearances. (Ex: Danville has an 8 & (5) and Mayfield has a 9 & (4). Both would have equal points in the analysis but should more points be given to Danville for winning one more state title than the Cardinals?)
Still a great analysis to add to the table.

No matter how you do it, newcath doesn't belong in there IMO.

Really? Why not? They've been a pretty good program for quite a while and fought some great battles with Beechwood and Danville, winning some and losing some.
Just curious to hear the reasons.

Newport CC had a winning percentage of 0.718, 17 winning season, 7 finals appearances and three state championships.
They belong.

FBALL Wrote:Boyle started their run around 98. Before that they were nothing. If it was last 10 I would have them ahead of Danville. And honestly Danvilles long history of excellence puts them ahead in my opinion. But Boyle is definitely on top now. Like any list these are very subjective and will vary from opinion to opinion.
The thread is the last 20 years.over the past 20 years Boyle has way more wins head to head with Danville, and more state titles.
