Sure

I am leaving it subjective to what everyone's individual interpretation of the success of a program is.

For me, it is about the following:
- Championships- The ultimate factor I think we all agree
- Runner-Ups
- Consistency in Playoffs
- Level of competition as it pertains to the school (for example if Hazard plays Perry Central and beats them it has more merit than if Johnson Central beat Perry Central)


Secondary to me:
- Regular season success. If Edmonson County goes 40-8 in a 4 year stretch but never 4 of those losses were in the 2nd Round of the playoffs then that has to be taken into account and used to penalize.

- Who beats them out of the playoffs- St. X is a prime example here. They have been arguably the 2nd or at worst 3rd best team in the state essentially the entire decade. Yet all they have to show for it is 2 Titles and 3 Runner-Ups because usually Trinity stands in their path.

This is my criteria, but it doesn't necessarily mean it is the right criteria.

Based on the way I view it, Bell County probably would struggle to be in the Top 15.

(--) Not as many State Semi-Finals appearances
(+) Amazing regular season resume
(+) Those playoff exits usually were to great teams
(-) Most regular season wins came against equal or less competition, limited wins over other Top 10-15 Programs
(-) Couple early playoff exits

I agree, I do not penalize a team for a 1st or 2nd round loss to an eventual State Champ or runner-up, as you mentioned.

Boyle had the dark ages in '06 and '07 (last 2 years of a 3 year stint with Pardue). 4 State titles and playing for a 5th one is pretty good but is it #3 good?

Since I don't follow anything but Mountain Football... Here's a few teams in the Mountains that "MAY" have a case.... (not saying they all belong on the list or if any belong at all on a state wide list)

I would say they're the Top 5 programs in the Mountains over the last decade. But I may be wrong, its just some schools I like to follow.
I know everyone will start the "class" talk but thats what our state does, I wish they didn't but we can't change it....

Again. I'm confused. There is a team off of your list that has been to 9/10 regional finals, 5/10 state semi finals and 5/10 state championship games with 2 titles in 10 years.

When I did my analysis for the Top 20 Programs for the last 20 years, one of the categories that I would have like to use was the number of wins and losses over larger or smaller teams, but I did not have that data for the years 1992-1997. I would have used a system for ranking the teams in that category similar to the Harbin System that is used for the OHSAA football playoffs. For example, under that system, during 2002, Boyle County (3a in 2002) would have received 4 points for a win over Henry Clay (class 4A in 2002) while receiving only 1 point for a win over Danville (Class A in 2002). This would have rewarded a team for "playing up." At the same time had Henry Clay beaten BC, they would have received 3 points for the win but a -1 for the loss (losing down one class).

I feel that that would add another dimension to the equation.

With the KHSAA moving Highlands and Cov Cath to higher classes (5A instead of 3A for 4 years), I'm not sure how that would effect the equation, so I would probably ignore that situation and consider them as they were classified. It would make it much easier to calculate. OOS teams also present a problem as to their equivalent KY class.

Heck, I would give bonus points to wins by Highlands and CovCath over teams in 5A since Highlands and CovCath belonged in lower classes. Big bonus points for Highlands as they were playing up two classes at the time.

:Thumbs: Good adjustment. Would you add bounus points for defeating a State Champion in the year as well?

I don't see class as big of an issue as some do. For example: In 2000 and 2001, the only loss Danville suffered was to Boyle while winning the Class A title. I think the same is true in 2003. (In fact the only losses Highlands had that season were two to Boyle and one to Danville I think)

Just looking at what other factors might be included.
