IF East Ridge were to get more transfers, and just so happened to win the region, which I'm not sure they can do. How gratifying that would be...so much for competing with boys from your own community.

You have no idea what you are talking about. People like you are the reason the site has went to the dogs!!

I can realistically see Ray's brother coming.
08-17-2012, 12:44 AM
Trust me his brother is no where near 7'.... Not even close to as talented as Ray. Even if he does come hes not an impact player. More of a support role for Ray than a valuable member of the team.

Tbf, he is in the 8th grade. I would automatically assume he isn't as athletic as Rey yet.

Not sure if he's coming or not, but he's wanted to for quite a while. Just so much more opportunity down here.

Okay... This is getting a little odd. Canada pipeline... Never thought something like this would occur in Lick Creek.

Is this why Feds Creek is playing again! Good Luck Brandon!
I like the fact how they continue to ignore local talent to make room for more outsiders!

I have heard that he was coming, again that's just hearsay

Just out of curiosity...do they play "Oh Canada" before the game?

Question/Comment,
Maybe I am wrong, but
What school doesn't recruit in the area? Now I understand it may not be as extreme as Canada, but coaches from all over still do it.
I often wonder what would programs be like today if coaches and schools didn't recruit and do other questionable things in our eyes. Who would be your team of the mountains. Football or Basketball. Regardless of what I may think, recruiting, and hold backs, and other things happen today, it's just the way it is, coaches/programs want to be competitive and want to win, maybe their job rides on wins and loses, or maybe we as parents won't accept anything less than winning and if they have a losing season we are all jumping the band wagon and leaving the coaches out to dry. Are we just as responsible? I support my son's school regardless who is there and who is playing and what the wins and loses are. Shouldn't we all.

But I will say that a lot more schools "recruit" in this area than you think. Trust me....I moved to Prestonsburg from Scott County my freshman year in high school. When coaches hear of a kid from Scott County looking to transfer, they will call you. I've even had them sit in my living room and give me a recruiting pitch.

If you have a problem with these "outsiders" stealing time from your precious boys, how about they get better and earn that playing time? Just because you go to a school a certain amount of time or live in a certain place doesn't entitle you to automatic PT.
Also, if it bothers you that much, go to the KHSAA and ask them to ban Canadian kids coming down to Kentucky. Please do.

You all just don't get it. It's not some big recruiting conspiracy. Just like Andrew Wiggins, Kasongo came to the U.S. to go to college, and unlike Wiggins, he needed to go to a program where he would contribute and be noticed. Wiggins could go to any school in the country and stand out, Kasongo couldn't.
It's that simple. There's no secret deals. Ugh, I'm so sick of this. His brother is down here to hopefully go to school eventually, and mainly to support his older brother. Being over 1,000 miles away from your family and everyone you grew up around isn't easy, especially with the pressures of a college recruiting process. It's crazy how many of you would like to see him fail just because he's an "outsider"...he's still a damn kid. Go ahead and say "Oh, I don't want him to fail", and I'll call BS, because I can see through that crap. Most of you wouldn't be saying this if he was from Phelps, or Virgie, or Dorton, or Pikeville...

I found this forum because i was researching where my best friend is transferring. Indeed my best friend is rubben kasongo. Last time i saw him he was around 6'2-6'3 but im sure he grew over the summer. He is a sophmore in highschool.

I've heard that Ray's brother mainly came down here to support Ray. I heard he came down for a while last year to spend time with Ray when he was going through a rough time. As far as him as a player, he's not 7 feet tall, he's closer to 6'4" if that and nowhere near the player his brother is. All this talk about this or that because he's from Canada is not right. Don't blame the kids. If you want to blame anyone blame the KHSAA they are the one's who clear them in the first place.

I saw Rubben working out with Ray yesterday
He is pretty athletic for a point guard and he also jumped over 5'8 and brought it down hard with 2 hands

High school basketball is evolving. Sadly, recruiting from elsewhere is becoming part of the process now.
09-02-2012, 12:38 AM
His name is Ruben. He is about 6'2. He is also a sophmore...a very athletic point guard that will be a good back up. He will have alot of PT. I go to school with him. If he stays with the program at ER coach mccoy will make him good...ER has a bright future. :pondering:

Puzzled at what position he will play. Does he start over Wolter? Probably not. Is he a hot shot 3pt shot like Miller? I doubt it. Is he big enough to play a 3?

These are not transfers, they are recruits...East Ridge HS does not exist outside of Eastern Kentucky...

Wow, ok where to start. First of all if he was wanting to go to college I think the teachers Ive talked to wouldnt be telling me that he is a handful and I dont think he would have missed 60 days of class last year? But even assuming and giving that statement the benefit of the doubt, there are closer opportunities to fulfill those dreams along that 4500 mile voyage to Lick Creek. And noone wants to see him fail. We want to see ER fail because they dont play by the rules. Noone roots for a cheater man. So maybe its not that we want to see him fail but we want to see our own kids suceed, and have the opportunity to suceed. What if your boss fires you tomorrow because he found someone from mexico who could do it cheaper and better? would you congratulate that person? So lets be honest, hes here to make ER bball not suck so bad, and it is sad because Im sure that if he didnt have talent noone including yourself would be giving him that opportunity to better himself and when hes done doing all he can do for ER im sure he wont recieve anymore help from up there or your concerns!

One came, he saw, he left talking about Shane Hall! Lets be honest, no one from ER will play D1 basketball, unless you count Cameron Justices freshman career up there.

I will bet you any amount of money that Ray Kasongo plays division 1 basketball for someone.. he might not have much of a pulse and get a coach fired at the next level if they depend heavily on him, but he will play division 1 basketball.
