Russell looks good this year, i have been to a few practices this year and they are looking tough. They will come out strong this year and i think they will have another 9-1 regular season or maybe a second 10-0 season in school history.

FBfan4life Wrote:Huh? You don't see them losing to teams below them? Lone Oak and Covington Catholic are below them. Seriously? Listen Russell might have alot of seniors to be returning, but those returning are the same group the choke in the playoffs to a LESS talented Mercer Co. team. So what make you sure history does not repeat? Cause it's a year later? Don't get me wrong, I know your a homie for Russell Co and they will have a succesfull season, but to compete with the Boyle Co, Lex Cath, Cov Cath, Lone Oak, Collins and Highlands is a big STRETCH brother. Good luck though.
The returning players are the ones who chocked against Mercer, and I can guarantee that they haven't forgotten that feeling. In fact, they have been motivated by the way the season ended for them and they will be a much improved team from last year. I think anyone who saw them play last year would agree that they could be a very dangerous team.....they were a legitimate top 10 ten last year. And while they may not be to the level of HHS, LexCath, or Boyle, the gap has closed a bit this year. I believe them to be every bit as good or better than Lone Oak, Collins or CC, but again this is merely pre-season expectations that could change after a few games have gone by and we see if the teams who lost crucial players have found suitable replacements......a concern that Russell Co doesn't have this year.

I'll give you Lone Oak and Collins, but not Cov Cath. Your team and the two mentioned do not play a schedule anywhere near tough as CCH and in the playoffs you would see the difference with a school like CCH.

I can't argue with the strength of CCH and given a bit more thought I probably should have put them in the 3 or 4 spot. I believe they were clearly the #2 4A team last season. I could make a similar argument for Lone Oak being ahead.....they ended the season strong and returned a lot of talent and perhaps they should rank a bit higher. Nonetheless, I think I have the right ten teams for preseason, perhaps the order could be adjusted some.
I wish RCHS had the opportunity to get the schedule strength up more this season, but they expected the teams on the 2-year rotation to be an upgrade from years past. It just didn't pan out that way. And when you don't have the recent years of quality play, your not going to get Boyle, Bell, type teams.

Russell had a heartbreaker in the playoffs last year, they fought back in the second half but jsut didnt have enough in the tank, i look to see senior QB Barton Mann and senior HB Nick Britt come out strong this year and lead the team to another impressive season and hopefully a run in the playoffs.

Everybody get tired of the same Bird winning it each year but until some one can catch it they fly away again with the hardware, But all good things must come to an end. Highland Heights is the favorite until some proves otherwise.

While it's a common and understandable mistake (as Highland Heights is a city close to Ft. Thomas), it's Highlands High School; not Highland Heights High School.

Collins lost some major contibutors, young guys need to step up.

Lex Cath, Highlands, and Cov. Cath. One of these three is your state champion for '12. The rest are fillers.....

Russell Co. has the talent to play with most teams in 4A but as with last year I think their schudule will come to bit them in the end. They play Adair and Cville who are 2 of the weaker teams in the area. I think Pulaski won 3 games last year, South Laural 5, Whitley 3 games. Being from the South Central KY area I'm pulling for The Lakers this season.

Aaahhhh so your saying is that they play a week cupcake schedule and when it comes down to the playoffs, they are not prepared for a strong competetion? OK

Whatever dude! Does your ex wife or girlfriend live in Russell County. Were you cut from the laker squad? We get it, everyone on BGR understands you don't think that Russell county is any good. Give it a rest! Let it go! Go to counseling or something, move on! Any positive remark about our team provokes at least one negative one from you. I will continue to post and enjoy post about my favorite team and I will fully expect some smart remark from the FreakishlyBitterFan4life!
As far as our schedule goes...we play strong Knox and Rockcastle squads in district and 5 schools from 5A.... I really believe Russell County will play hard and leave it all on the field this year....that is where it will be settled anyway.

never heard of russell co. i dont think highlands has ever crossed them on the way to state? are they on the Lone Oak/Franklin Simpson side of the playoffs? Did a quarterback of theirs go to EKU now UK?
08-09-2012, 06:34 PM
so i looked at the playoffs from last year and russell co lost in the first round to a team that got blasted by lex cath? unless they were all juniors last year and got some transfers im thinkn Cov Cath would destroy them. The Colonels get no respect because their big brother Highlands usually dominates them but they will be for real this year. This ranking is a joke. it should be this:
Highlands
Lex Cath & Cov Cath
Boyle
Highlands JV
the rest
Highlands
Lex Cath & Cov Cath
Boyle
Highlands JV
the rest

I think you're thinking of Jacob Russell from Anderson County.

I have never said that the Lakers should be ranked ahead of the Highlands, Lex. Cath, Boyle, or Cov. Cath. I think that they should be around 5th or 6th. Our boys need to prove themselves especially after last years playoff performance. People around here are excited about the most talented group of boys we have had come through our program in a long time. 4A is loaded especially in the east we are by no means a favorite nor should we be...but if we play and more importantly coach our best game we can maybe shock someone in the playoffs. Good Luck to everyone!

Yeah upon further research i saw it was a pretty successful mostly junior team last year. they could be a sleeper.

I think an Ellis went to Louisville on scholarship and then transferred to Eastern. He was a quarterback for Russell County.

Brother, I don't even know where Russell County is located. No sir I was not cut from a team, in fact I PLAYED in the Big 12 for a team called BIG RED ( see if you can figure that one ). All I know about your Lakers is that they had a very succesfull season last year and lost to a less talented Mercer. Play a Boyle County, Lex Catholic, Highlands, Lone Oak, Cov Catholic, Collins in your schedule and if you can hang with those teams, then you have a great argument. Will talk again during the season brother and will see if Russell is legit outside their district.
08-10-2012, 12:27 PM
I'm late to the party, but let me tell you that Warren East will most likely win their district. They certainly won't finish third. They return a whole lot of talent from last year's team that lost by 3 to Franklin-Simpson and pasted ACS. It'll come down to East and ACS in that district, and I give the edge to East. But Lone Oak will win the region.

Nevertheless by reading your hate mail, one could get the impression that you have a tremendous dislike or at least a severe negative bias to that Russell County team. Let's just say that at least in your posts there is little love given to them.

I think a lot of people if overreacting to the trinity scrimmage. But those of us who know how good trinity is knows better only two teams in 4A have a shot at highlands and it's lex cath and cov cath. Everyone else is playing for district champs and nice seasons.
