Actually district 3 is Collins, North Oldham, Spencer County, Waggener, and Atherton, and 4A district 4 is Western, Moore, Doss, Valley, Fairdale, and Nelson County.

But I do agree with your district 3 rankings, just replace Nelson County with Atherton.

Taking note. I was wondering what the expectations from CC were this year. Both CC and Boyle were teams that I was thinking hard about. Boyle turned on late and Whittle should come in to his own this year.

Thanks LWC. As always, it's going to take a few games to see who's living up to expectations and who isn't. Of course, I have high expectations for Russell Co. and it's hard to remove the slight bias

Johnson Central has won 5 of the last 6 district championships. The Golden Eagles host Ashland this season in the matchup that most likely will decide the District 8 championship. That definitely makes JC a slight favorite to bring home another district title to Paintsville, IMO.

Allen County Scottsville will make some noise coming out of the West. The Patriots return their entire backfield, 2 receivers, 2 line backers, 2 D-Line and 3 O-line from last year. They also have a great Junior class that will be there when needed. The team opens up in Bowling Green at Western with the Purples. They then go to Boyle County and play Mercer. These games will be a good test for the team.

I look to the game with Warren East to decide the District Champ and clinch homefield in the playoffs. ACS is very tough at home. The air in the stands will be electric on that cold night in November and the 12th man will certainly help.

Two years ago a small unknown school from outside Bowling Green just about pulled one out. This group of kids have done nothing but work hard to get another shot before they graduate.

A kid to watch out for that gets zero coverage is QB Conner Ross. Ross shared possesions last year with fellow Junior Casey Johnston. Ross ran for over 1,000 yards and Johnston threw for over 1,000. I am hearing that Johnston may be moving to receiver. If that is the case Ross might run for 1,500+ out of the veer.

Thats about all I know right now. Just can't wait for August 18th to get here so I can watch my boy Greg strap up for his Senior year. Love that kid. Sure has given the old man something to be proud of. Go #87

Not in particular order. Highlands, Lex Catholic, Bolye County, Covington Catholic, Martha L. Collins and the rest are miles behind.

I think that Russell County may be too high, but I don't know too much about them, other than their disappointing end to last season.

Collins may be too low, but there are still some unknowns going into this season. They should have no problem scoring the ball, but it will be interesting to see how they're able to replace Michael Brooks and other key seniors lost on defense. I think that if they can get some younger players to step up on defense, they should be very tough to beat. The biggest thing for them on defense will be stopping the run. In all of their losses the last 2 years, they have not been able to stop the run. The first four games of the season (at Meade County, at Boyle County, Oldham County, and at Eastern) will tell us a lot about this team.

Huh? You don't see them losing to teams below them? Lone Oak and Covington Catholic are below them. Seriously? Listen Russell might have alot of seniors to be returning, but those returning are the same group the choke in the playoffs to a LESS talented Mercer Co. team. So what make you sure history does not repeat? Cause it's a year later? Don't get me wrong, I know your a homie for Russell Co and they will have a succesfull season, but to compete with the Boyle Co, Lex Cath, Cov Cath, Lone Oak, Collins and Highlands is a big STRETCH brother. Good luck though.

Just so you know PF. Hoot is a JC grad who has has sons in recent years play for the Golden Eagles, and while now living away from here , is still a great supporter of JC football..

CovCath lost a lot offensively, other than their QB (Bir) who is, as you noted, the real deal. Some have questioned his arm strength and ability to throw the long ball, but he is very accurate on the short and medium passes. Their best RB graduated as did their best receiver and a lot of their O line from what I recall. Supposedly there are talented players replacing the graduates. Time will tell if that is accurate. A very talented kid name Dressman, is supposed to be getting the bulk of the carries at the RB. The strength of the team is supposed to be on defense, specifically their LBing corps. They have a lot of talented and experienced players returning on D. I'm hearing that they will really challenge the Birds this year. And they may, but I heard that last year and I think the year before that too. They did push us last year in the regular season game. Offfensively they moved the ball very well. In the playoff game, it was just another butt kicking by Highlands, with CovCath's O having very little success. Some has asked me why the CovCath O was so ineffective during the playoff game, after having so much success during the regular season game. Simple truth is there were changes made defensively. First game, Highlands sat back and gave Bir time to pass. He picked Highlands D apart with short and medium passes. Their RB picked up 4 or 5 yds a carry. Their big O line just dominated Highlands smaller d linemen and LBers. In the second game, Highlands stunted and blitzed a whole lot. Really took advantage of their better speed and quickness at the d line and LBing positions. As a result, Bir had little time to pass and their RB was getting hit by stunting d linemen as soon as he got the handoff. CovCath coaches had no adjustments for what Highlands was doing defensively. Proving once again that the little saying that "it's all about the Johnnies and Joes, and not about the Xs and Os", is flat out wrong.

They might be down in talent wise and not a top contenters for the 4A title, but you have to understand they are still Boyle County ( Title Town ) and they will find a way to spoil other teams.

Sounds like a lot of change for the colonels. However when you have stability at the qb position those things seem to transition smoother during the offseason so they should be pretty good.

Sorry, but the term "Johnsonville" sounds hokey to me. I went to school at Johnson Central but I am not ashamed that it is located within Paintsville's city limits. Too many people from around the state have no idea where Johnson County is located and giving them directions to a football game in "Johnsonville" just confuses them further. I was born in Paintsville, BTW, and even lived there on and off during my younger years.
