Dyer released from team

JONESBORO (7/29/12) – Arkansas State Head Football Coach Gus Malzahn issued a statement today that junior running back Michael Dyer has been dismissed from the football team for violating team rules.


“I am truly disappointed that it didn’t work out here at ASU for Mike,” said Malzahn. “I wish Mike nothing but the best in the future.”


The University respects and protects the privacy rights of its student-athletes and has no further comment.

Who is Michael Dyer?

he was the starting RB his freshman year at Auburn when they won the national championship and he was the offensive player of the game in the title game. he was kicked off the team last season before the chick-fil-a bowl for violating team rules.

he transferred to Arkansas State his junior year when Malzahn took the head coaching job at Ark. State and Dyer is from Arkansas. There were rumors of him transferring to D2 school Pittsburgh State in Kansas before this season.

details have emerged about a traffic stop after Dyer's dismissal from Ark. State. This is from yahoo and the Jonesboro Sun:

The Sun obtained the video of the stop, which includes a conversation between Little Rock Christian graduate Dyer and Trooper Royce Denney, who either knew or came to know Dyer was a football player. The videotape shows Denney asking Dyer if the gun is registered.
"Carrying a pistol around? Uncool ... You've got a career ahead of you but you're being a total dumbass right now," the newspaper quotes from the video.
Denney says he could report the incident to Coach Gus Malzahn, but adds: "What's the best way to make you think? You're a grown man and I'm not trying to treat you like a kid." He also reportedly tells Dyer he doesn't want to tell Malzahn about the incident "because of the NCAA crap."
According to the newspaper account of the video, Dyer responds: "I'm done with this. This is my second chance over here." He urged Denney to take the gun. Eventually, Denney turns the camera off.

i am from KY, but now live here in jonesboro.....Arkansas and KY have had more kids get in trouble than ASU, so the thug word dont work here.. go Cats and Arkansas State..
