Aug.17 vs Pikeville

Aug.24 at Williamsburg

Aug.31 vs Lexington Christian (Alumni Bowl)

Sept. 7 vs Middlesboro

Sept. 14 at Lynn Camp

Sept. 21 vs Leslie Co.

Sept. 28 OPEN

Oct. 5 at Hazard

Oct.12 vs Pineville (Battle of 119)

Oct. 19 vs Jenkins

Oct. 26 at Corbin

This is a very daunting schedule for the Green Dragons, they have four of the top teams in class A on this regular season run. If they can come out of the gate quick and get a much needed win while hosting Pikeville, I think their chances of having a really good season is within reach. A loss however and a road game at Williamsburg then host LCA it could be ugly for this (supposed best shot) at reaching the Regional finals or beyond. I have faith that all of the hard work that the staff has put in with group will payoff in a big way and we are talking about this group well into November.
#3
Prolly the hardest 1A schedule on this side of the state.
#4
I would venture a guess that this schedule is the toughest in all of class A, but if you want to measure a teams heart and backbone playing against tough opponents is the best way to figure it out.
#5
Harlan has a tough schedule no doubt. I think Hazard also has a tough schedule. Their first five games are against some tough competition. Mayfield and Beechwood both will have tough schedules.

Hazard

Aug 24 Clintwood, VA
Sep 7 @ Somerset
Sep 14 @ Lexington Christian
Sep 21 Breathitt County
Sep 28 Prestonsburg
Oct 5 Harlan
Oct 12 @ Jenkins
Oct 19 @ Pineville
Oct 26 Sheldon Clark

Just curious as to how people would rate this Harlan team to 2004 and 2006.
#7
from the limited amount I've seen I'd say as teams they are about even, as individuals they are better at some positions (QB, WR) and not as good as others (RB, OL), thompson was probable a better RB then what they have on the team, and while non of the OL was amazing, it seemed like it was more solid with w. howard, b. james, a. jones and some others. It would be an interesting game to see especially with the opposing playing styles.
#8
I thought about that bearpaw.
To be honest, i only seen Harlan play once last year, against Williamsburg, and i think this years team will be better, only problem is Williamsburg, Hazard and Pikeville should all be loaded.
Tough Region.

In the two games played Harlan vs Williamsburg the turnover battle was the defining factor in each contest. In the game at Harlan the Jackets turned the ball over 3 times and the Dragons won by 3 tds in the playoff game at Williamsnurg the Dragons gave it away 4 times and lost by 4 tds. 7 total turnovers and 49 pts swing in games, to me this stat says it all, who ever holds on to the ball wins the game in which they both have equal amounts of talent.

Everyone has an opinion but with respect to yours I think
The difference in the two games was Williamsburg started 7 freshmen and Dalton Sizemore did not touch the ball on the offensive side in the first game.

Thats true and Williamsburg had a good game in the second matchup but Harlan also had 5 starters out in the second game and they all were heavily relied upon for thier abilities, especially on the defensive side. That, and Williamsburg's defense, had a lot to do with thier turnovers. These two teams are fairly even matched and if there's any advantage at all it would have to go to Harlan for thier experience in thier 14 or 15 seniors of which nine or ten should start on both sides of the ball. I think they will meet two times again this season and both games should be barn burners.

Im always the first to admit that one player doesnt change the game in football.
But, Wburg is was a totally different team with Sizemore at QB.

I agree. Williamsburg reminds me alot of last years Middlesboro team, except better. Just like with Roark and the Jackets, the team that can put the clamps on Sizemore has a chance to win. I think the D-ends would have to be on top of thier games to put that kind of pressure on him.

I have seen multiple dates for the Harlan/Bell County scrimmage. Can anyone clarify what the actual date is? I have seen 10 August, 12 August, and 17 August. Just wanting to find out the actual date. Thanks.

This looks to be a very tough schedule indeed. The Green Dragons has usually been a tough team in recent years and has had the ability to pull off what most would consider upsets. This tough schedule will prepare them for tough district games and could better prepare them come play off time, and could possibly set them up for a good run in 1a football.

Does anyone know if the Dragon's will participate in a 7 on 7 this year?

Actually tomorrow, July 14, at Lindsey Wilson/Adair Co.

I would love to see a Harlan vs Bell Co matchup!! that would be one worth the money to see!!

Does anyone know how the Dragon's did in the 7 on 7 tourney or if they were there at all?

I told you guys that the city was behind the scrimmage thread. You guys thought I was trying to be funny or something and didn't take me seriously! This same guy post this nonsense, so you now know what his intentions were with the other one. I can't say a lot now but it has to do with them being mad over getting turned in for a coach ( lets just say going door to door) outside the city limits!

Parent group said 7-on-7 postponed.

Would love to read any worthy "recruiting" story, but I stand by the opinion that no one at Harlan invests enough in sports to put forth such effort. I've been wrong once or twice, though.

^ You guys are funny and northlaurelfan is an idiot. It's not luck that put's good football teams together and the Dragon's will be very good this year. They might be the only team in Harlan Co. Playing come 3rd or 4th week of the playoffs this year. I wouldn't bet against it. Not this year. But see you guys can't see that some of the best football in this state could come from Harlan Co. this year between these two teams. Harlan Co. has two teams that will rank high in their respective divisions and you guy's can't be proud of that. That's ashame.

It's not a shame, it's sports. It's OK if they don't like Harlan, perfectly OK. It may rub you guys the wrong way, but that is OK too. It's sports.

No it's sports talk, and the talk is between old guys that haven't suited up in over 20 years , or I dare say if they ever suited up at all in a Varsity game, sports is where the games are played on the field or on a court between young adults that seem to get it, that it's ok to try and kick your opponents butt during the game and shake hands like men and go about there business. Not heaving remarks to insult or belittle anyone, then the kids that are better than most go to the next level and play with the same kids that they have played against for years and you never hear that they can't get along because Johnny played at Bell Co and Tommy played for HC and Timmy played for Williamsburg and Billy played at HHS.

Sports or sports talk man, whatever you want to call it. It's all part of the sport's world. It's still perfectly fine for people to have and express whatever feelings they want to on these boards, at games, or where ever. Even if they never played a down, took a shot, or swung a bat.

I think the QB position is about the only position on the field that can be a game changer if that person is out. The qb is like the on the field coach.

Am I the only one on here who is sick of people crying about things you post just because they don't like what you say or they don't agree. This is not the field and this is not life and death important stuff. This is a place to talk about sports and voice your opinion and have fun. I don't know what some people expect to see when they come to BGR. If people did not voice their opinion on here what would be the point. We would not have nothing to talk about. All we would see is score postings. You can get that on the KHSAA WEB. Dude I get this same thing all over the place on BGR. IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU SEE OR HEAR ON A THREAD OR POST THEN DON'T READ IT. It's as simple as that!!! There are plenty of other threads to go to. Just my opinion, what say you.

What say me is this, adults should be examples to kids at all times, would I be upset with my son if he were doing some of this? Yes, and I would explain to him why I think that it is in poor taste to do so. My issues with the subject at hand is that while I have coached many of the kids at HHS and HC that for some reason it's not right for me to want the Bears to do well because my kids went and still go to HHS. I agree that this and other sites are for expressing your opinions and that is what makes these things fun, but these are HIGH SCHOOL kids that are playing these sports and they do read these posts, my feeling is just when you are typing have a little class, and put your child in the cleats of the ones that you are voicing an opinion on.

I've heard that the Dragon's actually have a decent sized off. line this year. Actually, that their guards and tackles were bigger and stronger but not necessarily slower. Heard that their center was smaller than the rest but was a strong kid. A few new faces apparently. Does anybody know anything about this? I've heard they have about 32 out with 1 joining the team later after the first game. That's already more than last year. I hope they all stay out. This season could get very interesting.
