INDIANAPOLIS â It was a word tossed around a lot after Kentucky's All-Stars completed their sweep of Indiana on Saturday night: special.
"It's just really special," Bre Elder said of the win and the sweep and the week. "A special group. The feeling is warm."
After the 92-75 rout Saturday in Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Kentucky Coach Stacy Pendleton took it a step further than just "special."
"I told them that they're going to go down in history as one of the best Kentucky teams ever," he said after Kentucky completed a series sweep for just the second time since 1991.
The Manual coach emphasized the word team again, noting that Kentucky had 25 assists in the win. Every Kentucky player scored in the game, and five girls finished in double figures led by LeAsia Wright's 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Kentucky's defense held the Hoosiers to 29.2 percent shooting and forced 28 turnovers, turning them into 29 points in the victory. One day earlier, Indiana shot 25.9 percent in a 75-47 loss in Louisville's Freedom Hall.
"This group epitomizes what a team is about," Pendleton said. "In one short week, they became a team without egos. They really didn't care about who got it done as long as Kentucky got it done."
During the first half, it was Wright getting it done. She had 14 points at halftime.
"I was just feeling it," she said of her first half, which included four three-pointers.
With eight minutes to go in the first half, Indiana had pulled within a point of Kentucky 28-27, then the Bluegrass team used a 13-5 run to start pulling away at the break.
Christine Roush of Mercy and Kendall Noble of Perry County Central led the charge, each scoring four points during that spree.
Again, Kentucky's defense was dominant. It held Indiana to one field goal in the final 8:30 of the first half and 28.1 percent shooting.
"It's team-first, blue-collar mentality to have that kind of defense," Pendleton said. "Lots of times all-star teams don't have that."
And despite getting 15 fewer free-throw attempts before the break, Kentucky had a comfortable 52-36 lead behind 54 percent shooting.
In the second half, an Elder free throw capped off an 11-2 run for Kentucky and gave Kentucky its largest lead of the game, 70-45, with 11:06 to play.
"We still had a stretch or two where it just got away from us," Indiana Coach Scott Kreiger said. "Where we stopped scoring or had quick turnovers and they turned those into points, which is what Kentucky does really well."
Kentucky Miss Basketball Sydney Moss, a Florida signee had 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
Elder, a Dayton signee, added 13 points and five rebounds.
Micah Jones and Noble added 11 points apiece for Kentucky, which last swept Indiana in 2008.
Indiana had a small spurt at the end of the game that made the game seem closer than it was.
The Hoosiers were led by CoCo Moore's 18 points and six rebounds. Miss Basketball Jessica Rupright added 13 points.

“We competed a lot better than we did in Louisville,” the Fort Wayne Canterbury coach said.
