Magoffin Football-the Real Blame
#61
coacher Wrote:OK. This is weird. My buddy called me long distance this morning to tell me I was being "trashed" on this sight. First of all, I am glad to see there is another sight (that is free) to talk about high school sports! I am also surprised to see that I am being talked about on it! I thought I was long forgotten.

Moderators, I assure you I am who I say I am, please let this post go on, it will be my first and last.

My name is DAYNE BROWN. I live in St. Cloud Florida. Let's get that out of the way that I am not like some of the gutless cowards on this sight who get on here and trash people that they don't know, and talk about things that they have no idea what they are talking about- while hiding under the security blanket of a false name.

I will say this first. When I took over the football program at Magoffin in 1999, I decided I was going to build everything around "class". That is harder to do than it sounds but I started first and foremost by never saying anything negative about the coach whom I was replacing, Eric Ratliff (Who I happen to respect very much for his football knowledge and coaching ability by the way). We tried to give people incentive to be at practice, by both making it fun and by not allowing them to play if they skipped out.

I started the job only three weeks before the first scrimmage and it is a credit to coach Ratliff that we finished the season as well as we did because the kids had worked alot on fundamentals during his tenure which left me with the ability to install the new system.

Secondly, I will say this. It is obvious that in the eyes of some I did a good job in my time there, and others think I was lousy. I will let my number of wins and losses speak for itself over time but simply say that when we were fortunate enough to win it was because our kids did a great job and when we lost it was my fault because I did not have them prepared enough. BUT, I did my best. I mean I gave it everything I had. EVERYTHING. It hurts when you give your all to a goal, especially towards helping young people (which after all should be the main purpose for any teacher or coach right?) and people talk about you and criticize you...sometimes the you are backstabbed or criticized by people you tried to help the most- parents of kids who's camp you paid for, or maybe the ones you gave a ride home everyday, or people who you considered friends who stood at the fence on Friday night and called you and your kids losers. But still that is a part of the job that I have learned to live with, it goes with the territory.

Thirdly, let me address those who say things like "this football team never lifted weights in four years" and things that insinuated that we didn't work hard. THAT IS A LOAD OF CRAP! You can question my record, wins- losses, play calling, whatever you want but ask kids like T. Allen, J. Helton, A. Smith, B. Marshall and tons of other players I had during my tenure why we didn't lift and you will be laughed at!

Fourth, I wil make one personal comment. I loved (and still love) my kids. PERIOD. I miss all of you guys and think about you everyday. YOU are the stories I tell my kids in St. Cloud!! I am so proud of all of you!! When we left Salyersville, we left alot of students, faculty, friends and family that we cared about deeply. After driving as far as Savannah Georgia, in the old U-haul, we stopped to get gas and were still wiping the tears out of our eyes. In the deepest part of our hearts we will always be HORNETS. That was the thing that made the decision to leave the hardest thing I have ever (or will ever) have to do! It turned out to be the right one, we are happy and fortunate to be in another great community.

Finally I will address all of the "critical" people on here (you know who you are) As I have said before, I believe as any coach should, I had my priority list in good order. I put the kids first and worked as hard as I could. Also notice that I have never once said anything negative about the administration, players, or current staff in the process of posting this....which is something some of you need to learn, CLASS! I would like to wish the new administration and football staff- especially coach Howard luck in their endeavors.

On a side note, "vince" (whoever you really are) you seem to know an awful lot about me and the terrible job I did during my tenure at MCHS. You also seem to be very aware of what is currently going on with the Magoffin football program. I guess what I am trying to say is that speaking from my personal experience, you seem to be someone who is "in the know"....perhaps you are someone MCHS should hire as a consultant or, maybe you are someone who is actually on the staff presently. If you are on staff or are considering hepling the MCHS football program get back to it's illustrious glory days, I have a couple of suggestions for you-

1. Don't say anything that could be mis-interpreted as being critical of the previous staff-we loved those kids and as you can see many of them are very loyal to us and you would only be alienating the present staff by doing so.

2. Make sure to get copies of all of those great playbooks you mentioned, the one from Marty Jaggers, Ken Roark and especially the ones about special teams since I was too stupid to ever waste time practicing "that there dumb kicking game" .

3. Don't spend so much time in front of the computer! Perhaps if you are currently helping MCHS or you do in the near future, your time would be better served helping with after school conditioning, weightlifting, or supporting other MCHS events such as boys and girls hoops, baseball, or whatever. After all you may run into some recruits at these events.

4. Make sure to keep mentioning "That there big losing streak Coach Brown had"
It makes you look really smart and gosh when you say that I can almost envision Bill Belichik saying the same thing about the coaches he replaced...It will also detract from any unsuccessful or future unsuccessful events in which you are or could ever become affiliated.

5. Sign your name to your posts, especially when you are going to be negative or disrespectful of all of the blood sweat and tears that someone gave a good portion of their life to.

6. If I come up north during the spring or the holidays (if you have given your name by then) could you sit down with me and show me perhaps how real people
run a football program? Gosh that would be great!

Very Sincerely,

Dayne Brown
St. Cloud Florida

:Touch:Down: Wrote:alright... (mudvayne) i know all vince.... ok well I was on the team for the past 2 years I never played football before untill my Junior year and I thought I would give it a shot. I started out and I fell inlove with playing football. Coach Brown was a great coach. I would have loved it if he would have stayed for my senior year. Because him and I bonded on the field and in the classroom he was my sociology teacher. Coach made sure we was always on time and if you wasnt you ran. I remember one time me and a few of the players where playing halo as usual and we were about 10 mins late for film on thursday. Well we got our clets on and ran for 2 hours. The following night we travled to Pike Central and pulled out a victory. I was at practice everyday this year except one I had to go to the doctor to see if I could play by last game as a Hornet due to a broken bone. Im not faulting either coach but I sure as heck dont think that any one should be dogging coach Brown. He is a great guy and great coach.. I wondered so many times if he was keeping up with us this year. I really hope that Magoffin Football gets better.

Fugate had no reason why i didnt quit. I didnt quit cause of players like shepherd, bradley, holbrook, wireman, jordo, cody cole, and all the rest of the players they was like family and still are coach fugate didnt have one ounce of infunece of why didnt quit he was one of the main reasons i wanted 2 quit,
#67
ok fatman, but you sure let them down all year and tell fugate that when you see him. i wouldnt have even played you if id been the line coach, and i did work the line some last year was not a coach but helped out some.i dont even see how you played, if it wasnt for them having 20 kids you wouldnt have.i was there when he made you do the conditioning and you whined and walked off the field, everybodyelse did it why not you.i wish i could coach the line and have you back, youd never last 1 day.

The Best Thing To Happen Was To Lose This Sorry Bunch Of Seniors, Except For Shepherd. Phillip, Bradley, jordan H, Cody, Larry Neal, Will Be So Much Better.
We Lost Nothing On The Line-if We Had Shepherd Back-look Out.we Got Rid Of All The Whiners And This Bunch Will Be A Good Team.because They Are A Team.
I Hope I Get To Be A Part Of It And I Couldnt Have Stood You Mwright. Wait And See This Team Wil Be Alot Better Ask Coach Williams Hell Tell You The Same Thing Ive Said.theyll Be Better, Much Better.the Quitters And Whiners Are Gone Give Guys Like Phillip, Jordan, Curtis, larry Neal And Johney Davis A Time To Show What They Have. You Really Never Even Started Mwright, How Could You Quit. I Know I Was There Almost Every Day.
#69
well if the only reason i got 2 play o line is cause they was no 1 there then y did fugate threaten 2 take me off the line and why did i beat everyone at all the offensive line drills?. yea the day i did quit if u remember i made up almost doubel of wat i walked out on so dont u even start and guess wat u aint a coach so i dont care wat you think
#70
WTF R.Ingram where do you get that we whined if i was a whiner i wouldnt have played my final 4 games with a broken elbow hell i had pulled my groin muscle in the 1st game and played through it i missed only one game because it was right after i broke my elbow i had to basically beg fugate to let me play when i thought i was ready some people prolly wouldnt have done that

Holbrook, You Did Improve. But You Know Mw Let Us Down Almost Every Game. When Guys Lik Phillip, Curtis And Larry Neal, even Little Mullins Busted Their Buts, Mw Always Let Us Down. Seems Like You Had Trouble Coming To Practice Early On Holbrook, And Fugate Got You Fired Up And You Had A Great Game Against Betsy Lane.im Gonna Try To Coach This Year And I Wont Put Up With Any Mws Either.
#72
you may laugh at this but i am going to be getting a degree in coaching and if things havnt been turned around by then im going to try and get the job because i love football and i love magoffin football and i want to turn it around or atleast help
#73
vince if u think you think some one could of done better then they would have im sorry im such a let down to u im sorry i busted my but for 2 years of my life 2 not satisfy a guy who stood on the sidelines and complaiend about us all year i admited when i did bad but as youi said they wasnt any one else who could do the job so hush whats in the past is in the past you have not right 2 say anything 2 me
#74
Names should not be used whether u liked the way they play coach or whatever. U play as a team and there is no I in team. Singling out a player and criticizing him on here is wrong. This thread should be shut down. I would take MWright on my team any day.

First off i'm going to say last year i was asked to leave the football field from a practice becuase i subosabley smart mouthed Mr. Fuget, and had every intention on trying to come out and play this year and do what i could for the Hornets, keep my mouth shut and bust my ass (like i did last year) to try and help all i could but if this is the shit i've got to look forward to im not even going to waste my time this is pathetic, vince you should be more of an adult than to critisize fatman like that, thats very immature and is excatly the reason magoffin has the name it does, you should appoligze to fatman for what youve said, yea michaela might not have been the best but by hell he tried... and i'll tell you waht hopefully by know you know who i am, if you dont i'll tell you later in person, if you do get the O-line coaching job next year put me through hell in a practice, because i bet i come back the next day and the next day and the next day untill your sick of looking at me conditioning dosent bother me, and guess what next year i'll be right out there waiting on you.

I wish a MOD would close this thread, it's really out of hand and MR. Vince is starting to use real names along with harrassing commients towards posters...
#78
i agree it is getting outta hand, vince should have never said anything like that to fatman, that is very immature, he really needs to appoligize to him over that

Mind anyone reading this post that myself frankee fatman and msch fball are still in highschool, vince is not...
#81
sounds like some discipline problems on both parts

Dayne Brown was a great coach. He ran a clean cut program. He had very talented players. Players like 2003 players #75 Jason Williams,#31 Jacob Allen, #61 Brandon McCarty, #25 Bradley Marshall, and #72 Adam Smith. These kids went out on the field every night and never quit. Those 5 players were what the program was built on. Brown turned thes kids into leaders and I think thats what he wanted to do. They won 5 games that year breaking a 25 game losing streak. I think Magoffin football was on the right track and in 06 you will probally see a turn around with freshman with alot of talent speed and heart enter the high school. The coaches will have more time to prepar for this season. Good luck to all the players and coaches.

Vince, this is sad and pathetic. This thread has went from a discussion of coaching Magoffin County football to an allout immature verbal assualt on plenty of ppl who dont deserve it. I stood on those sidelines the same as you last year and if those senior boys were whining and doing such a bad job i didnt see you doing anything to help em. I guess i see how it is, you say yea good job boys until the end of the season then you pull a backstab and rip fatman and the rest of the seniors when they all did a great job all year. Frankly, if you are coaching with Magoffin County next year i feel sorry for those boys. I had a bit more respect for ya than that.
