The Rebels (28-11) will face Pulaski County (15-23) in the second semifinal today. The Maroons beat Southwestern 12-2 Monday.
In the first semifinal, Danville (18-17) will face Mercer County (28-7). Danville beat Somerset 8-3, and Mercer beat McCreary Central 7-0.
The Jaguars (18-20) scored three times in the top of the first off of Hannah Miniard before Boyle had recorded an out.
“I called time and walked out to them and told them to relax, we were only down three and had come back from bigger deficits,”¿Deem said. “And we haven’t even batted yet.”
Those would be the last runs East jessamine would score.
It was still 3-0 in the fourth when Lauren Richards singled and later scored on Miniard’s double for a 3-1 lead.
East loaded the bases in the fifth before Elysse Petrie came in and got out of the jam. Then in the bottom of the inning, Miniard blasted a solo homer to make it a 3-2 game.
“At that point, the kids were starting to see East getting a little tight and we were getting a little more confident at the plate,”¿Deem said.
Boyle took the lead for good in the sixth.
Sammi¿Key singled and Carmen Hart ran for her. Hart scored when KK¿Davis’ bunt was misplayed and Davis wound up at third and the game was tied at 3-all. Shelby Bishop ran for Davis and scored on Lindsey Edwards’ sacrifice fly.
East had one more chance off Petrie. The Jaguars had a runner at third with one out, but Petrie struck out the final two batters to end the game and get the win.
Danville 8, Somerset 3 — Taylor Estes drove in two runs and Brianna Turpin tripled and scored to help Danville knock off Somerset in the first round of the 12th Region Tournament at Millennium Park.
Bailey Carson made her first start since injuring her thumb late in the season to pick up the win for Danville, scattering five hits.
Kayla Breitenbach had two hits and scored two runs and Kasey Young had a pair of runs for the Admirals, who struck first with three in the top of the first inning.
Young was hit by a pitch on a 3-2 count, then Kayla Breitenbach’s bunt was misplayed, allowing Young to score. With one out, Emma Breitenbach reached on an error and Kayla Breitenbach scored for a 3-0 lead.
In the second, Turpin had a two-out triple then scored when Young reached on a fielder’s choice.
Danville added four in the top of the fourth inning. Kaitlyn Bryant singled and Turpin reached on an error. With one out, Kayla Breitenbach reached on error and Turpin scored. Estes’ single scored Turpin and Kayla Breitenbach, then Estes scored on a wild pitch.
