May 30th and June 1st are going to be two SICK days of baseball... Can't wait! Blackcats, Pirates, Panthers, and Eagles should all advance and with that said I'll be a homer taking my Pirates over the Panthers of Pikeville High to capture our very first 15th regional title.
Let's do it, fellas!

I love the potential Prestonsburg/Belfry game. It will be wild. But it also will help the winner of the lower bracket, especially if Belfry is to win. No disrespect to the capable pitchers those teams have, but not facing Williams is a huge dodged bullet.
Don't count out Paintsville however, they have seemed to played well against Pburg and could have easily had a win or two over them this season.

Making the 15th region representative use pitchers (and probably their best pitchers) on Friday when they will have a state tournament game on Monday is idiotic!

I thought there was a week in between. I am always for the Monday quarters, Tuesday Semis, and Wednesday Finals format. But this just makes it mandatory. If you want to have softball and baseball on separate nights, then place softball later where pitching rest is less important. The only bit of good news for the 15th is that I would venture to say all #1's will throw on Wednesday if the match ups play out as expected and the Championship will see #2's and #3's.
Pikeville (If they are in charge of scheduling) is really dropping the ball on this. Heat or no Heat, you have to at least try. If games are being played at 9 am on Monday or still being played 2 am on Tuesday as a result, so be it. It is the only fair way to do it for all teams. Teams that received a Monday draw are at an advantage. (If Pikeville would have got a Monday draw, I would admit to the advantage.) The teams, and region is put at a huge disadvantage with this scheduling.
Something needs to be done that makes the Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday format mandatory in all regions or at least the 15th.

I think it'll be very interesting to see how Hagy pitches. Last time, Tyler pitched against Lawrence so Jared Masters went the next night against PBurg and lost 1-0 (on an unearned run, as well) while Zack Fields has a win over Pikeville this year. You would think you'd be seeing either Williams or Masters on Wednesday, but I think it's a VERY interesting decision if you're Mike Hagy.

Prestonsburg is probably a little better than Pikeville, a little behind JC, and like you said, Belfry still would have options against Pikeville or JC. But, you can't throw anyone in the Championship unless you get there, so that is why I think Williams goes.
In the semis and championship, there probably will not be a big enough drop in ability from team to team to rationalize not throwing your best and hoping for the best later.

When your #2 has shown a strong outing, though, it's convincing. Pirates could pitch Masters on Monday with relief from Fields, Williams on Wednesday, and pour the staff out on Friday should they make it.

Just to illustrate:
-The 15th Region is the ONLY Region to not be playing all 1st round games on Monday.
-The 15th Region is the ONLY Region to not play both Semi-Finals on Tuesday.
-The 15th Region is one of ONLY six Regions to not play the Region Championship on Wednesday.
-The 15th Region is the ONLY Region to play the Region Championship later than Wednesday or Thursday.

De Ja Vu back to 2004 with this bracket setup.
Here's a little history lesson from when the brackets were set up almost identical to how they are this year:
First Round
Johnson Central beats Allen Central and Tyler Turner with at the time a record run scoring game.
Semi Finals
Johnson Central edges a 30-6 state ranked Pikeville team with Chase Huffman on the mound.
Finals
Johnson Central beats Paintsville in a district championship rematch to take the regional title.
Johnson Central then sweeps a 30-6 state ranked Hazard team lead by a previously undefeated 12-0 Steven Sizemore on the mound to take the District 7 Semi State title.
Johnson Central defeats state ranked Ashland Paul Blazer in the opening round of the state tournament.
We'll not talk about the next game (lol), but I'll take a final 4 with this group any day of the week.
Watch out boys, I looked up in the sky last night and the moon and the stars are all lined up right now.
j/k guys.

Look for Williams, Masters, Williams if they are fortunate enough to advance.

Just looking through those schedules, I really miss the schools that have been lost to consolidation. Just not the same feel anymore.

Pikeville must be hottest pace in the state, they host the only Region in the state not playing all first round games tomorrow! Ironically the girls are.
Also the 15th plays at six on Monday in the state tourney. Logistics of finishing on Friday and getting everything ready to play on Monday is gonna be tough on the winner! Better hope there is no rain in the forecast.

Correct me if wrong but was the reasoning for scheduling only 2 on Monday and Tuesday games due to possible "turf temperature" tomorrow? I just checked the weather and there is a chance of rain in the forecast. This could throw everything off if rain is substantial.

Just one of those things PT. After a pretty rugged regular season schedule JC came into the district tournament, I think one game under .500 or perhaps one game over, I cant remember exactly and then got hot at the right time, went on a tremendous winning streak and never looked back. Just one of those things that happens, baseball. Pikeville had a great team that year and honestly the championship game was played in the semi finals. JC and Pikeville basicly combined for a summer team during those years and all the players on both teams were very close to one another. That was a true rivalry back in those years, however, believe it or not, not a bitter one. This in my opinion was the golden era of 15th region baseball. The whole region was loaded with talent at that time.
The bracket setup was very familiar and I just thought I would have a little fun with it.

Pikeville's turf definately creates an advantage in many areas, but if it was going to throw every thing off to this extent, perhaps a field that is natural grass should be considered in the future. I guess it's a double edged sword.

The region ran through Pikeville in '04. They were the team to beat. Talking about the rivalry... I dont know who I wanted to beat more, Pikeville or Paintsville. It didnt matter though, we got 'em both haha
Fun times!

I see the Pikeville/JC game being more like the 1998 championship at Pikeville when Pikeville won 2-1 in the finals. JC had a real good pitcher named White I believe...
