Very weak Non-Conference Schedule IMO

^There is good reason for it. Cal knows this isn't a championship team, so he is trying to adjust accordingly. I'm not hating, just simply stating the facts.

Duke, Baylor, UL.
I think its a pretty rough road for the young Cats.
After seeing the recruits we have coming in, and what we have now.. I will not be surprised for a elite 8, even possibly a final 4. Not getting ahead of myself but an elite 8 is almost guaranteed.

Not to call you out Spud.
But I have never seen you post a prediction, what you think of a team, or details period? Are you even a sports fan? :blabbermo

My only problem with their schedule is the home games...
IMO, seems like all of them are mediocore especially seeing that they raised ticket prices...

Nonsense! Certainly not the strongest of schedules by UK standards,
but by average for top programs, not weak at all. Matter of fact,
for the handful of schools that will have a stronger non-con slate this
year, you will find it anamolous for most. And I doubt ANY other top 10
program will face a non-con list where it has all its marquis games
on the road or at neutral sitres. Unfortunate for Rupp ticket holders,
but well speaking for the testing the team will get. Unless of course
Baylor ends up being better than expected, in which case one of
the top billed games will be at home.

This isn't an odds on contender, but that doesn't mean it couldn't
win a title. It could be better than the '10 team that went to
the FF It certainly doesn't look like the 2 heavy preseason faves IU and U of L will be anywhere as formidable as UK was last year, so the field and chances will be more wide open.

Nonsense? So is that why most of the UK fans are pissed about this schedule?

Strikeout King Wrote:Nonsense? So is that why most of the UK fans are pissed about this schedule?
partly because UK fans are never satisfied, but mostly because
all the marquis games are AWAY, which I pointed out in the previous
post. Going by how the average top basketball program schedules
its non-con games, this is NOT a weak schedule. UK fans' disastisfaction
is irrelevant in that evaluation.
07-11-2012, 08:38 PM
how are we never "satisfied"?
07-12-2012, 03:49 AM
Not to disagree with people who say this next team is not a championship type team but I completely think that we have a wonderful shot to repeat. As we all know, this upcoming season is going to be a "down" year in college basketball which means that the talent level needed for a championship team is lowered thus parity. Three teams are above all others next year and those are (in order) Indiana, Louisville and Kentucky. 6 or so are in the conversation and that includes North Carolina State, North Carolina, UCLA, Kansas, Syracuse, Michigan St.! I do not think that Michigan will be as good as expected and Baylor takes a larger step back than what people are anticipating. The Sleeper to round out my season long top ten is Florida! So I like UK's chances to make it to Atlanta and at that point.... it is up in the air at best!
Final Four Prediction: Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, UCLA

I also know the season ticket holders aren't pleased with this schedule either

SK, you are posting at too many cross purposes here. First of all
UK fans as a whole are never satisfied, I count myself among them.
And that is what MAKES UK the BEST fan base in the nation,
and helps UK be the top program in the nations. Sure
we're all happy, that UK won the title, and WILL be happy
if they win this one. Bbut who hasn't thought to themselves
more than once since March"that b.s. Watford shot, we should
have been 39-1."?
Secondly, you began this debate by calling it a "weak" schedule.
And THAT is the point here. It's NOT a weak schedule. You are
absolutely right that season ticket holders are disatisfied, and
I feel RIGHTFULLY so. The Rupp Arena slate is NOT very
appetizing. And with big ticket price increases, fans are
justified in feeling shortchanged. That has NOTHING to do
with the overall strength of the schedule.
So you're trying to disagree with things that AREN'T being said.
Most everyone, me included is AGREEING with you about the
poor quality of games in Rupp, but we're disagreeing that
overall it's weak, because IT'S NOT.

You are crazy if you think that isn't a weak non-conference schedule.
Duke, Maryland, Baylor and Louisville are the only hard opponents they play and two of those are at different locations.
Anyone in D1 could beat Morehead State, Lafayette (PA), Long Island, Samford, Portland, Libscomb, Marshall, Eastern Michigan.
Those above are Powerhouse Schools? Take any powerhouse high school team across the nation and they would give them a run and probably beat them.
This non-conference schedule is a JOKE! I don't care what any of you say about it, it's a JOKE

Notre Dame at ND isn't a tough game?
And thus you prove 2 points of my points. First that UK fans are
never satisfied. Second that being a moderator on this forum
is often an indictment of ignorance.
Pick out any other top program in the nation and if there non-con
schedule has 4 tougher opponents than Duke, Maryland, U of L and ND,
and you will find it's the hardest schedule they faced in probably 20 years.
Complain if you want, but year in and year out UK's non-con
schedule contains more name opponents, and tough neutral
court games than any other in the NCAA save U of L. And if
this year's slate is a little off that, it's an anamoly.
07-17-2012, 06:45 PM
I don't give a flying crap who they are playing, I will watch.

Sorry I forgot about Notre Dame. Other than Duke, ND, Maryland, Baylor, Louisville the rest are cupcakes. Take a Powerhouse high school team and they'd beat them. Now the conference schedule is pretty good with the additions of A&M and Mizzou
This is the hardest UK Non-Conference schedule in 20 Years? Are you that much more crazier? have you forgotten about the 2010/11 Non Conference Schedule (Oklahoma, Washington, UCONN, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Indiana, Louisville)
I do agree with the netural court thing but the home non-conference games are weak.
Go to this link. When you get there start going through each year

Serious Question, when was the last time we played Maryland?
Was it back in 97 or 98 when we knocked em out?
I know we played them when Wayne Turner and Scott Padgett was there but im not sure if it was 97 or 98.

You are forgetting 2-3 games.
I'm pretty sure we played them when they had Duhon and at least one game with Dunleavy.
