Not a bad schedule, imo. Harlan looks to be stronger this season, Raceland is always good competition,Sheldon Clark is a good opponent. Belfry is always strong, and it's good to see Swain Co.NC. on the scedule once again. Hopefully the outcome this time around with Swain will be different. Wishing the Panthers a safe and successful upcoming season. GO PANTHERS!!

The Panthers will be young and will have to grow up fast. Guys like Austin Black, Chase Hall, Cody Estep, and Gage Morrison will have to lead this team early. Development of lines will be HUGE!
#4
Hate to say this but Pikeville could continue their success of last season. They have a HUGE hole to fill at QB though.

As tough as it will be, I need to try to temper my expectations this season. However, I will have very high expectations for 2013. Bridge year, IMO. Espcially with Hazard, Raceland, Williamsburg, and Harlan returning A TON. Hazard is having a tremendous run, that appears to be on the decline. I have spoken of 2013 a lot, but I think the best shot now may be 2015. Either way, the next 4-5 years should all be built off this 2012 season and should all be better, IMO. Must find a way to compete and try to repeat the Region Title.

Next year's 8th grade group may not win the County, but that group is loaded when they all mature physically. The incoming freshman are solid. And the incoming juniors are solid. The Senior class the weakest of the 5 in terms of overall potential/ability.

Agreed. These guys listed here have two noticeable talents, e.g. speed and experience. No doubt , Cage Morrison with his size and experience will anchor the line of scrimmage.

I'll add one more thing - what made last year's Pikeville team different than prior years was that they played with Panther Pride and desire to win. Perfect example was being down 18 at Fairview and coming back to win. Last year's senior group brought that attitude. I agree with PT, this coming season could be something of a struggle, but if the team maintains that "never say die" attitude, the potential "drop" would be minimized. This year's Junior High group (some will be next season's freshmen class PT mentioned) is really strong in all three major sports. Bright days ahead!

From the outside looking in, Pikeville will probably have a tough time repeating last years success. Randy Maynard was one of the best single players to play against Belfry all year last year.

Pikeville is Pikeville and will be good. Im just not sure as good as last year because they had some key seniors graduate and the loss of Maynard is big. But the best offensive player is the Hall kid and I think you got to put the ball in his hands at all time and i would suggest try to grandfather him over to playing a little QB and i believe the rest of the pieces can be filled in. Not sure who the back up was or if they have a decent or good freshmen QB coming in.

Pikevilles best case scenario 8-2 with loss to Belfry and Swain
Pikevilles worst case 6-4 with Belfry,Swain, Harlan and Raceland.

I myself Predict a 7-3 record for Pikeville next season.

I also noticed after I posted but had to come back and edit it, Pikeville has a sleeper game with Powell County that may be a good game not sure what Powell returns..

you all can't forget powell county. Even tho they lost there best RB and couple lineman to graduation and QB to Pike Central they still return a lot of very good players that have experience.

Agreed. Randy Maynard is one of those special players that you just don't see every day. He surely will be missed.

Don't want to look ahead too much, and want to enjoy this season. But really looking forward to the next four or five yrs. of Pikeville football. Just hope each class plays with the heart and determination of this past season.

Pikeville was expected to be good last year but not at the level they achieved by getting to the state semifinals. Losing a player like Maynard would be tough for anybody, but I still think Pikeville will surprise a lot of people this year. Best of luck.
#14
I think it will be them, raceland or fairview to see who plays hazard for right to state title

Way to go out on a limb there.
#16
if the linemen can come together and stay HEALTHY i think this team no matter whose at qb can surprise some people come playoff time. thats if they survive one of the most grueling scheduels pville has had since the jackson/copley era. the positive side is no matter what happens this year they virtually lose nothing and get fired up for 2013
#17
one game away from state last year and they were a young team I think they can take that step this year but the road runs through hazard

Rumor has it, and i repeat RUMOR. Wes Pugh will be a Panther this coming year. If this is a fact he will help get back some of the offense lost with Maynard.
Maybe some Panthers can tell us more if this is true or not.

How about just calling Pugh and ask. Then you'll know the rest of the story.

Add Wes Pugh to the equation with the talented and experienced skill players that return, and it could get interesting in 2012.

Different year, same story. Unless something drastically changes, it is not going to happen. He lifts at Pike Central every day and fully intends on being there next season.

Thank you for the facts.

I did stress it was a rumor from high school students. I was just trying to find out if there was any truth to it.
Thanks for clearing it up PT.
#25
good luck Panthers, will be watching those games!
#26
Could be a struggle this year.
#27
IMO, they go as far as Chase Hall can run them.

Chase Hall is a fantastic back. Looking so forward to what he can do this season as big things are expected of him. However, don't forget the skilled players with valuable experience like Austin Black, Nick Jones, Cody Estep, and others who contribute greatly. Of course it all starts with the O line, and that will develope as the season progresses. Imo, the Panthers will go far this season. How far?, we will see . jmo.

Nick Jones graduated, but point is well made. There is talent at the skills positions and on defense. Pikeville will be YOUNG. Still, and I hate to put pressure on anybody, but QB is going to be a major factor in the equation. You can't duplicate Maynard, but they can't cost us games, either.

The Panther's are young but will progress well over the course of the tuff season schedule they have before them and may take a lump or two along the way. But,the regular season is all about preparation for the playoffs and coach Mcnamee is as good if not better than any high school coach in this state at getting his team pumped up and ready for the playoffs. Pikeville WILL be fine come playoff time. He will get every bit of bite those Panther's have to give. You can beleive that!!!
