Christian Academy's Allison Foster sets state softball triples record
#1
Allison Foster said she never really thought about entering the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s record book — at least not for hitting triples.

“I didn’t even know there was such a record,” Foster said.

But the Christian Academy senior will find her name atop at least one list after slapping the 37th triple of her career earlier this month in a 19-2 victory over Kentucky Country Day. The previous state record of 36 career triples was set by Daviess County’s Tabitha Embry from 1999-2003.

Foster already has added to the record, getting triple No. 38 in Monday’s 6-0 victory over Henry County.

“My eighth-grade year my coach made a comment about me having a unique combination of power and speed,” Foster said. “I guess that’s how it happened. …

“The way the right-field fence is at CAL, if you hit it the opposite direction you can make it all the way to third.”

Foster is a big reason the Lady Centurions had posted a 14-4 record and were ranked No. 18 in the state entering Thursday’s home game against Lexington Christian.

She’s batting .407 with four home runs, four triples, five doubles and 13 RBIs this season. But she’s done her best work in the pitcher’s circle, where she has an 11-4 record and a 1.00 ERA with 156 strikeouts in 91 innings.

“I think she’s the best player in the Seventh Region,” CAL coach Kyle Mullin said. “She hits for power, and she’s very fast. … And right now she’s pitching the best she’s ever pitched.”

That was evident April 19, when Foster tossed a two-hitter and struck out eight in a 2-0 victory over No. 2-ranked Ballard, its only loss this season to a team from Kentucky.

It was CAL’s first-ever victory over the Lady Bruins, and Foster said it was a bigger moment than setting the triples record.

“We’re just so young that you’d never expect to see so much talent from us,” said Foster, noting that six freshmen and an eighth-grader started against Ballard.

Foster has signed to play softball at Bellarmine University after also considering Asbury and Hanover. She plans to study business at Bellarmine before heading to the University of Louisville for a degree in sports administration.

But for now, Foster is focused on the remainder of her final season at CAL and hoping for a trip to the state tournament. CAL is one of six teams in the Seventh Region ranked in the Top 25, joining No. 2 Ballard, No. 4 Mercy, No. 6 Assumption, No. 8 Male and No. 20 Eastern.

“If we play our ballgame like we did against Ballard, we definitely have as much of a shot as anybody,” Foster said. “This team is so confident, even though we’re so young.”http://saxo.highschoolsports.net/article...le&avis=B2

Congrats to Allison! She is a very good hitter and pitcher. With her CAL could be dangerous come postseason.
