Final from Davis Park.
Jacob Hamilton picks up the Win and tosses a No Hitter with 19 K's (29 K's in 12 IP this season, 0.00 ERA, 3 hits).
Pikeville moves to 4-1 on the season and will return home Saturday to play Knott County.
Panthers gonna have to find a way to excite the offense a little bit.
Coach Lawson has ER moving in the right direction. Good to see him back out there.

Close game. Must have been a good one to see. Congrats Panthers.

Offense typically is the last thing to come around, so I'm not super worried just yet. 19 K's for Jake is outstanding! He is getting better each year like a player should, good to hear that. As for East Ridge, Lawson is a very good coach. He will squeeze every last ounce of talent out of a player. Expect them to be much more competitive than they have been in the past. This game was a prime example. Keep it rollin' Panthers!

Who threw for East Ridge? Must have done a good job, being able to hold the Panthers to just 1 run!

These are the run outputs this season thus far.
It is not the same Pikeville offense. Games will have to be won with pitching and defense. So far it has worked out. Against better teams, I worry a little. After averaging 9 a game last season, you take into account the bats I would take it to 7, then the loss of the offensive firepower and I would go 5. But 5 hasn't been reached against a quality opponent. This club needs to average around 5/game to be in the top 1-3 of the 15th. Hopefully it will come around soon.

Replacing Taylor, Steven, Clark, Sam and Lane is gonna be tough. I think the new bats are masking their inexperience on defense. If I were Priode, I would work hard on shoring up the defense, try to find a lineup that is gonna produce hits consecutively and squeeze out 3 runs a game. These Panthers dont have a ton of experience and that may hurt down the road. Pitching will be relied on heavily, but the bats always improve late in the season. Defense will be the deciding factor in who wins the region. I agree with one of your earlier posts, lack of off season games will come back to haunt this group. Good luck and you are right, great to see Lawson back on the field.

Couldn't have been said better. Lawson is a proven competitor and E.R. will be better for it.

It will still go in the book as a hit or fielder's choice, but for 3 years some of those were outs.)
Good news is the Regional Tournament will be on Turf.
I would be in favor of constant lineup switches until something works. Right now, I would put Miller in the lead off spot. Get him as many at bats as possible and let him do his thing to get around and find a way to score.
IMO, there are no certain fixes at this point. Just have to play around and see what sticks.

Not a bad idea! I would at least have him in the two hole just in case the leadoff gets on. Follow him with Jake or Randy to ensure that he gets moved around the bases.
Turf will definitely help for this team.

Pikeville isnt having trouble hitting the ball. The ball is having trouble finding the gaps. You cannot correct such through practice. It will just happen. However, I ump around the county and can say East Ridge is looking quite better this year then previous years. If i were in charge of the PHS roster, I would put Jake Burk leadoff because he seems to have speed and a decent stick. Then bump up Jacob Hamilton to the 2 slot and put Pradie in the 8 or 9 hole

Jake H. doesn't have the speed to hit 2, however he has the perfect stick for it. Jake B. doesnot not have lead off mentality. I thought Austin Black could possibly lead off but I don't think he is playing that much from what I hear. Defense will win championships and practice will help that!

Disagree. You don't even need 5 when you have two aces who can totally shut down the opposition. Hitting needs to improve for sure, but Hamilton and Maynard won't need 5 very often to win.

Jet Pilot,
If you live by two arms, they will be worn out by seasons end. Also cant ask these two young men, as good as they are, to go 7 everytime out. That would not be fair to them. Chandler as good as he was couldnt do it everynight. Run support is desperately needed.

I love both these guys and am very confident in their abilities, but so many things can happen in baseball that it is nice to have more than 4 on the board. If you tell me that against a quality opponent our run proudction was x here is how I feel feel about a win in terms of percentages:
1- 15%
2- 25%
3- 40%
4- 50%
5- 70%
6- 80%
7- 85%
8- 90%
9- 95%
10+- 99%
IMO, the 5 run mark is the big breaking point that turns a toss up into a win most of the time with A solid game on the hill. But that is only my opinion and I respect yours, JP.

Congreat on the no-no and on the win.

After reading Commanche's and PT's posts, of course they are right.
I like Pikeville's chances when the top 2 pitch, but like all good pitchers they will need run support.

Two aces + poor defense = need run support
