Sounds like someone held the ball the whole game.

I don't even know what to say lmao!

can you guess who it was? lol
I was actually at this game and blue1424 is right, HIGHLANDS held on to the ball for most of the game. The Birds knew the best way they would stick with NDA was to limit their scoring chances. Almost worked for Highlands

LOL.
Upset! Highlands lost a football game, wait...

I heard Highlands attempted one shot in the first three quarters.
For the record, I love this. If this is your best chance to win, then do it! Don't get into a track meet with someone faster than you, you will lose majority of the time.

Good Coaching.

Wow! That is crazy!! I do like the coaching strategy though! This has to set some kind of record! Anyone know what the record is for the lowest scoring girls game is?

Paintsvilles girls won a game like 8-6 back in the day. Basketball was originally a very low scoring game.

North tried the same thing against Whitley (not to this extent) and it worked.
IMO, its a shitty way to win the game.
They need a shott clock in both boys and girls high school basketball.
Some of these teams are getting ridicolous with it.

ND should have come out of their zone and forced the birds to play.

âRelax, all right? Donât try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, theyâre fascist. Throw some ground balls â itâs more democratic.â

I agree, if ND would had put some pressure you would think they could have gotten some turnovers. I bet ND would play differant if they had to do over because this just about cost them.

I feel so sorry for the people that watched this game lol

Coach wasn't lying when he said 32 mins of hell....lol.

^ That made me laugh.
02-29-2012, 02:00 PM
Oh lord, I would have asked for my money back. Why didn't ND just come out in a man to man defense and force the action?
02-29-2012, 02:24 PM
Exampe of why a shot clock is needed in high school basketball. I had the same question though, why didn't ND come out and force them to play up tempo. Don't understand that one.

Why? NDA was never in any trouble. They weren't going to lose.
On the other hand, the tactic sure says a lot about the status of the program at Highlands.
NDA should be amused.

I agree. Many posters are putting down Notre Dame when you have the almighty Highlands team having to resort to a stall to win the game, and still lost . A five point loss in a 13-8 game could be considered a blowout.

This kind of nonsense is exactly why I have said for YEARS that there needs to be a shot clock in high school. Theoretically, if the team leading gets the ball first in the fourth quarter, they could just hold it and never attempt a shot.
Yes, I know, the other team could come out, play defense and try to steal it. But what if the team ahead has great ballhandlers? Just a ridiculous way to win a game.
I can't say I blame the Highlands coach. Within the framework of the rules at present, he did what he could to try to win. To be honest, I'm surprised more teams don't try stall-ball, especially if there is an obvious talent disparity. I fault the system, which for reasons that escape me, doesn't see the need for a shot clock.
The easy answer is a 45-second clock. The pros have 24, college is 35, so 45 in high school seems reasonable to me.

well to start, Notre Dame was winning and why exhaust your players when you've got the lead? I'm not a big fan of stall ball, but I think Highlands had the right game plan and Notre Dame countered it well

"Highlands brings the ball across the center line to the top of the key........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ND in the zone................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................"
