So glad to see Whitley and Clay draw away from each other.

Whitley County should be more concerned with Harlan County, that they are with not drawing Clay. Whitley certainly deserves to be ranked as the second best team in the region, and did beat Harlan County during the regular season. But, that game was at Whitley and the Lady Bears were without Sarah Evans. I think a regional tournament matchup could go either way.

Ive heard this crap all fricken year long.
For 3 months i heard how HC was gonna come into Whitley a whip us good and the exact opposite happened.
Yes im thrilled Clay got thrown on the other side that way the region championship isnt played in the second round. Is it going to tak elimination to prove that?
Ill give you credit though. Most of your other supporters have bailed out after being proved wrong, but you hung with it.
I know anything can happen in region touney time, but were on a collision course with Clay and you'll be the second team to find that out.

Good luck to all teams, and yes run, I hope your correct with Clay and Whitley playing for the title. Take in consideration which teams can play with the refs allowing the phyiscal play. Different region refs=different types of play. Who can adjust?

The Knox, Bell match should be the best first round game.
I dont see Whitley, Clay, or Harlan Co., having any trouble at all with there first round matchups.

Whitley earned the No. 2 spot, but they also earned being fifth or so coming into the season after last year and from the summer. That's how it works. They proved they have improved.
The draw seems very fair.
If it was seeded, Clay would be No. 1, Whitley No. 2, HCHS No. 3 and Bell No. 4. You could make a case that Knox Central is No. 5, and they are playing Bell, so it works out almost the way you would draw it up.

You didn't hear from me about how Harlan County would "whip" Whitley County. This is probably my first post about the Harlan County girls all season. Also, I never said Harlan County would beat Whitley in the regional tournament, but if you think the Lady Colonels are going to cruise to a regional title matchup against Clay County then you are wrong.

Anything can happen.....but would not surprise me at all to see Whitley win the region.

True, however seeding shouldnt even be brought up.
Its always been a draw.

Obviously everyone knows it has always been a draw. HDE was simply saying that the draw came out appropriately this year.

Oh, i could of swore he said IF IT WAS SEEDED, oh wait, he did.
lol at how much im going to enjoy this week.
HDE, formally known as the Harlan Daily Enterprise, knows i wasnt being a dick. You just want to make it seem that way.
You told me to worry about HC, you might want to worry about Bville.

If middlesboro would have had Carissa Padgett they would have definitely been a contender

I think MVP2's picks look fair. Harlan/Whitley hardest game to pick on paper.

1 thing can keep Whitley from winning region but it has kept them from winning it a few times before!!!!!

The Bell/Clay match-up should be a good game...if it happens.

Hateful old brow!!!

Hateful old brow just got sent home as the N Laurel girls upset Whitley Co by two after leading by 15
02-27-2012, 10:25 PM
This didn't shock me, North Laurel had a great game plan and spread the floor and and kept the ball in Woolums hands (their best player), Whitley could never adjust. Shooting 5-25 from behind the line and getting out rebounded 40-28 is typical Whitley County team in regional play, Whitley has great talent every year but cannot develop inside game they live and die with the 3 pointer. How good would North have been with Madden (now at Clay) and Crawford (now at Perry Central) had they stayed at North. Great job coach Mahan.

Whitley will be very good next year, and will likely be the regional favorites, but no one in the 13th Region will be dominating Clay County.

He has one of the best in the Region, but refused to use her and kept her on the bench most of the game. He needs to go if this team will ever have a chance at advancing in the future. It just is so upsetting to see a pompas ass lose the season because he refuses to change his way of thinking.

Whitley coach did show some class in the paper though, basically said that NL just outplayed his team.

How in the world do you come to that conclusion after just watching them get outplayed by an 8-24 team??? Yes, 8-24!!!!!!!!
Maybe you're right and they'll dominate the whole 13th Region in the regular season next year, but if they get ousted in the 1st Round of the Regional Tournament, what have they really accomplished at the end of the day?????
Whitley Co. doesn't have NEAR the individual talent on that team that you think they do. Ashley Woolum clearly proved that! If Brandi Smith is the best player in the 13th Region bar none like you've been claiming all year, then maybe Ashley Woolum should be a Miss Basketball candidate because Smith is clearly not in the same league with that young lady. Ask some college coaches and you'll clearly find that out in a hurry!!!!!!

I thought the delay tactic North Laurel used at the beginning was effective against Whitley. They didn't seem to be able to recover after the first quarter lead. They did catch up late in the game, and actually had an opportunity to win, but just came up short.
I love the Corbin Arena for concerts and shows, but hate it for ball games. I feel soooo removed from the action!

They could put the risers on the other end of the floor to give the student sections somewhere to sit too. Would be a whole lot nicer if they would do something like that to enclose it a little bit.

It's horrible for basketball. Get it back at the high schools and get back the atmosphere of a true regional tournament. Sad, these kids have missed out on that part!
