Marcum for Powell was 7/12 from 3 with 4 of those coming in the first half
#3
Powell lead 56-46 going into the 4th were the Pirates outscored Owsley 21-11. Shelby for Owsley was called for an Intentional Foul when he tripped Powell's Monnett.

Owsley missed 8 or 9 layups in the second half, and several in the first half. You just can't do that and expect to win a district tournament game. They also played a little too fast, and that was to Powell's advantage. Powell's press turned the Owls over many times. Too many.

Owsley was a very young team this year, starting 4 sophomores and a junior, with the top reserves also sophomores. Hopefully they have gained a lot of experience, and coupled with a good summer camp schedule, will be a much improved team next season.

Owsley should be much improved. District should be between Estill and Owsley.

Lee or Powell will probably finish 4th in Districts Next year they both lost a lot. (Probably Powell, the ones they lose will hurt them a lot)

Owsley (2 - Addison/Bowman)

Estill (2 - Case/Evans)

Lee (7 - Hollon/Baker/Estes/Marshall/T. Mays/Peercy/Samples)

Powell (6 - Conner/Dennis/R. Goodwin/J. Goodwin/Monnett/Pelfrey)

Is Marcum back for Powell? He is the one that killed the Owls every time they played this year. He's been deadeye from 3 land when facing Owsley this year.

Yes. He was 7/12 from 3. He's a Junior This Year, But with what Powell losses it's gonna hurt them. You take those seniors out and that's the biggest part of Powell's Scoring

this is from the Herald Leader

Powell Co. 77, Owsley Co. 57 (56th): Trey Marcum was 7-for-12 from three-point range and finished with 21 points in the host Pirates' win. Zach Dennis added 13 points and 10 boards.

I hope so, this is the second straight year for most of them starting. Powell lost Creech and Reed. Estill lost everybody except Morris and Lee lost pittman but the Owls was not able to beat any of them. Lets hope another year will make a difference for the Owls.

Next year will be a good year for the Owls if they can keep continuity with the program. This year would have been much better if not for some bumps in the road (Grove out half the season with a knee injury and still not 100 percent and Shelby missing about a third of the season with a discipline issue). I saw some good things early in the season before these happened. They have some good young reserves who will only get better over the summer and will give the Owls some needed bench relief next year, something they didn't have this year. The starters are all just now at that point where they are turning into men from boys. Allen is a beast on the boards, Grove is a rebounder/dibbler/shooter, Hall is a slasher who can jump out of the gym and his three point shooting was really impressive the second half of the season, Shelby is one of the most ellusive point guards in the region who seems to make big shots when they are needed, Holmes is a still maturing big man who is probably the most fundimentally sound player on the team, Mason is a defensive whirlwind who disrupts the flow for the other team. You never know what will happen from year to year in high school basketball but this team has all the ingredients to be really good the next two years.

Owsley had way to many turnovers and had a hard time handling the ball. The big man from Powell (42) should had been tossed and he didn't even get a intentional foul just got a charging call... Could not understand that call... guard play concerning ball handling on both teams was bad. IMO if you pressure Powell guards they will turn it over. Just wasn't a good district game from both teams.

Holln,Estes,Samples, Peercy dont play much, Baker pays about half of the game and he exchanges with Marshall. Mays has plyed more here in the late season than early. Lee returns Evans, Gabbard, Cornelius, Gilbert all who have started most of the year. So with 4 starters back and Cox, and Fraley and Mays coming off bench. Lee will be right there next year also. We have heard that Pittmans 2 cousins are comng home from Georgia also, there are as good or better than Big D form what I hear.

Oh, is Lee County going to become the new Perry Central. Lol
#14
Im going online right now to look for foreign exchange students. Only requirement: tall, can shoot the three, dribble, rebound and have a sister who can do the same willing to come also. Booneville in the winter is beautiful. LMAO
#15
Good point Outsidein, but it is hard to handle the ball while digging fingernails out of your skin. Shelby tripped the Powell player out of fustration at being mugged on the steal that led up to it. Not defending, just saying.
#16
Powell did do a lot of slapping and grabbing on their double teams. They foul so much in the press that the refs can't call them all, but they could have called more. That's how they ended up getting so many steals. But even at that, Owsley was just not strong with the ball. Continue with the weight lifting, and they definitely need to work on the ball handling skills over the summer.

One other thing....Izaiah Allen looked really good in the 1st quarter, rebounding, scoring, taking the game to the Pirates, then suddenly his teammates forget that he existed for the next 3 quarters. They spent too much time trying to penetrate into the lane through double teams to force up bad shots (and the refs weren't going to bail them out with foul calls, for sure) or launching challenged 3 pointers. Allen should be option #1 in my opinion. Start from inside to out. I was disappointed that they didn't go to him more. Working it that way would also slow the pace of the game down as well. Powell wanted a fast paced game and Owsley fell right into the trap.
#17
there was alot of slapping going on but just from what I saw the guards are not very strong with the ball. Heads down and dribbled into to many bad angles. But now I will say Owsley played hard and was actually in the ballgame until the end. If they had shift certain angles and had made some shots it could had been real interesting. I have to give your coach a hand because what happened with powells big man I would had gone crazy. They would had probably tossed me. lol
#18
I'll agree with the fact that this game was not pretty. But Powell looked hungrier to me. Man, that is a loud gym and very hot.
#19
You are right Lookayanner...but Owsley big man needs to move more He sets up on the block on one side and doesn't really shift much after and he needs to work on going to his right . But they really need to get stronger upper and lower body and that will make a big differrence.

Transfers. Just in time to save the day.

I agree with the bolded. However, Allen does move quite a lot in the early going of games, but when they fail to get him the ball very much (and they don't look for him nearly enough), he then seems to get frustrated and just stands around a lot. Again, he should be the number 1 option everytime down the floor, imo. The whole team would get much better looks at the basket if they have an inside-out style.

The dennis kid should not have been tossed that statement is a load if crap. Everytime he got a rebound or posted up he got hammered with arms and bodys an gets no calls cuz he is bigger than everyone else. Thats how its been all yr long for him. The kid #10 for owsley was all over him slapping at the ball an his arms. Dennis was just trying to clear space an get him off of him. The kid deserved what he got he fouled almost every play. An from what i saw from the front row it was more of a flop than anything. An for the shelby kid he is the dirtiest player i have seen play this yr. An the biggest cry baby when things dont go his way. He was very lucky he didnt get the crap beat out of him after intentionally tripping monnet for powell an running away an laughing. If anything he shoulda got tossed. Owsley was the most classless team i saw play all yr n the 14than i saw every team but jenkins play. A kid even spit on powell's floor. Shelby punched a kud in the ribs the first game at powell then tripped the same kid lastnight. They need to mature alot an it starts w the coach who was ahuge baby himself. They will have enough talent to win the 56th nxt yr if they grow up.
#23
i agree with basketballfan10! #10 had what was coming to him, and i wish someone will teach shelby a lesson, he needs an attitude adjustment, i seriously thought there was gonna be a brawl and jacob connor from powell did the right thing by sticking up for his team mate, even though it cost him a tech foul. i look for powell to win districts and actually make a run in regions, they have the talent and the ability, someone should give them some credit for what they have achieved this year, and they are not done yet
#24
basketballfan10, didn't Dennis finish with 10 & 13 or did he have more Boards? I had him with 13
#25
lol lol your funny.... He should had been tossed and that is why Powell coach put him on the bench real quick because he knew he was lucky he didn't get tossed. He took his arm, elbow and body and deliberately with the intent to hurt the player. Simple as that. I'm assuming your a powell fan and thats's ok. I saw it one way and you seen it another way but i'm not bias towards either team. "Had what was coming to him"?? hmm ok..I didn't think I said anything negative towards Powell. But anyways.. Hey i do like Powell coach good guy. Gym was load last night. Student body did a good job on both sides. I do think the guard play is week on both sides other than marcum boy shooting but to me that wsa poor defense by Owsley. Again IMO. He had alot of open jump shots.

Yeah, I agree. Lee will be right there in the mix to win the District again with who they have right now. If Donte's cousins come back from Georgia, I think we are easily the District favorite but, as of right now, that is a big if.

LOSERS QUIT WHEN THEY'RE TIRED, WINNERS QUIT WHEN THEY HAVE WON
#27
If the kid hadn't have mugged Shelby everytime he got the ball he wouldn't have got tripped. Can't catch him, so foul him. Powell will be seeing the young Owl studs the next two years so you teach them a lesson then.
#28
And the only deep run the Pilates will be making in the region is if they get lost on the way back home from Knott County. From a Classless Owsley County Fan. (The faceless nerds dressed in the body suits showing up in the Owsley Student Section and potentially starting a riot was really classy also)

Man, stop taking a few incidents (and they were incidents both ways on the 2 teams, BTW) and making it seem like one team is "classless" and the other is a saint. Powell did their share of grabbing, slapping, elbowing, and shoving last night. You never seem to notice any of that through your red colored glasses.

I've followed your posts all year and all you do is cry and gripe about how the referees have robbed Powell in a game, or how some other team's player(s) did something bad to Powell and the refs let it happen. To hear 90% of your posts, Powell never loses a game, the referees always take it from them. I'm assuming you are a student and still at a young age, so most of the time when I have read your posts throughout the season I find them more amusing than anything. But calling someone classless is a little harsh. Both teams got caught up in the heat of the moment last night a few times. Powell's center knocked Mason dowm because he felt he was fouled; Shelby tripped Monnett because he felt he had been fouled on the steal. And to be honest, Powell actually does a LOT of fouling in their press. Most of it went unnoticed last night. Shelby was beat to death on his arms and hands. After so much of that it sometimes leads to retaliation fouls like the trip, and just like Dennis did to Mason on the elbow foul. Both players were lucky they weren't tossed from the game. The rough, or "dirty" stuff in your words, last night was about even both ways. So if you say Owsley was "classless" well, I guess Powell is "classless" too.

But actually both teams simply played a hard fought, intense game, and Powell prevailed. They were better than Owsley this year, winning all 3 games. Ball games will sometimes have a few flareups here and there. Don't whine and cry and make them sound worse than they actually were.

Owsleys in the past has been great, but I agree this season during boys games they have been bad several games, but all schools act ugly during district games that's there job get in the head of the other team.
