The Lady Cats forced 25 turnovers, including 10 in the third period, to rally from a halftime deficit and snap a four-game losing streak.
"We were tired of losing, so we just had to pick up our defense," Franklin junior forward Tasia Covington said. "We just had to play and do our thing."
Looking to build off the first two-game winning streak in program history, South Warren (4-22) used a 9-0 run to take a 17-13 lead after a 3 from Chelsea Forrester midway through the second period.
The Lady Spartans were still in front 18-16 at halftime before Franklin-Simpson (13-14) took control in the third period.
The Lady Cats went to a full-court press on defense and scored seven straight to take the lead for good. South Warren stopped the surge temporarily and trailed 30-25 after a pair of free throws from Colby Downing late in the third period, before Franklin-Simpson put the game away with a 12-1 run that stretched the lead to 16 points. The Lady Spartans got as close as nine in the final minutes, but were unable to get any closer.
"We expected them to come out and put pressure on us," SW coach Ken Waddell said. "We work on that every day. After we made our 10 (turnovers), we were fine. The bad thing is, even with all those turnovers and they look a lead, we were still in it. Even when we broke the press, we were passive.
"But the good thing is, we competed tonight. We told them a month ago we would have laid down a long time ago, so we are still making progress and still growing up."
Downing led South Warren with 12 points, while Brittany Taylor added 11 points.
Covington finished with 24 points for Franklin-Simpson. Jenna Curtis added 10 points and Sydney Gooch finished with seven points and 13 rebounds.
"The credit goes to the kids," Franklin-Simpson coach Josh Matthews said. "These kids were really disappointed when we lost to Russellville and then we allowed Russellville to beat us the next two nights. Anyone that saw us (in the last game) against Warren Central saw that we were going through the motions. We didn't have any excitement or energy. I thought we played a real good second half. I was proud of our kids tonight."
Franklin will play at Allen County-Scottsville at 6 p.m. today. South Warren will host Logan County at 6 p.m. today.
