Good game by the kittens, they had their chances to win and pull the upset.

You only improve when you play better teams. All those points are nice but they mean nothing when they are scored against what amounts to lower middle school groups. Ashland needs to improve through being under fire if it wants to get past Morehead. Overall the region is weak. Coach Bradley has earned a trip to the state tournament as a participant.

Coach Bradley has increased the difficulty of his schedule this year. Ashland has played Newport Cath, Notre Dame, Highlands, Madison Central, Oak Hill, Ohio, and played Perry County Central in a preseason scrimmage. Ashland also has Ironton St. Joe (West Virginia) to play late in the season. By far the toughest schedule in the 16th region.

True, and although they lost to all of the teams you mentioned they are a better team for having played a few better teams. By the way, I believe they play Huntington Saint Joseph rather than Ironton Saint Joseph. The former is often very good. The latter is normally very weak. In any case, it will be a good test for Ashland. It is good that the game is in Huntington because Ashland needs difficult road games. Ashland does play the most difficult schedule in the region but, in reality, that is relative because the region is weak and most play each other and little else. Ashland still needs to put a little more bulk into its schedule if it wants to be a force outside the region.

Definitely a tough schedule for Ashland, BY FAR the toughest in the region, better check East Carter's opponents this year before you say that, Coach Easterling made the schedule too tough for this young team in my opinion!!

You make a valid point. Simon Kenton, DuPont Manuel (#1), Scott County, and Owensboro Catholic all in the LexCath tournament, one right after the other, can't be topped. And Fairland, Ohio is a good team.

You should stick to boys basketball threads when it comes to degrading and sharing your keen insight about Kitten basketball and Coach Bradley. Region is very weak. How are your two wonderful teams fairing this year on Winslow Road?

Congrats to the Lady Kats

My mistake, Truth - you are correct I meant to say Huntington St. Joe, a perennial power in West Virginia - at team that beat Boyd by 32 points this year. I also failed to mention an Ashland's victory over currently 19-5 Owen County who has beaten Walton Verona and New Cath this year. I agree the 16th is a weak region, but Ashland has scheduled at least 7 tough games outside the region. They also have home and away agreements that they must honor with outside teams like Ironton and South Point (very tough last year, but having down years in comparison this year). Can't see how Ashland can strengthen its schedule more than this and still play its required district games and understandably some regional opponents like Rowan, East Carter, and Fleming. Looks to me like Ashand is playing more than a "few better teams".

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree. East did face some good competition in the Lex Cath Tourney, but Scott County is having a down year at 11-15 and Owensboro Catholic (16-10) is in another weak region (the 3rd). Simon Kenton is good but only 14-9 out of the 8th region. Of course Manual is a dominant team and would paste any team out of the 16th. Fairland is also a very good team. But, I'm gonna stick to my guns and still say that Ashland's schedule is by far the toughest 16th region schedual.

With the exception of Notre Dame the Kittens losses have been by 8 points or less. They have to play unselfish team ball to get where they want to be. Coach Bradley is getting them there. Good girls that know what needs to be done.

I don't think we disagree. I was merely saying that EC played a tough run of four games at Lexington. And, as Lady Cats said, you are limited when you have so many required local games against less than stellar talent.

No surprise. Old Ashland Diomedes makes it difficult to root for his/her team. He/She has been a bit nasty ever since being abruptly ushered out of his/her previous school venue. Wounds definitely heal slowly.

It does sound like we're on the same page. Unfortuately for East Carter one of their most athletic girls, Breanna Greenhil, was out due to sickness during the Lex Cath tourney. She is now back playing and she is starting to contribute more and more to the box score. With a healthy team, it wouldn't surprise me to see East make some noise in the post-season.

You may be right. I look for it to get down to Ashland or Rowan County but when you get to tournament time odd outcomes are possible. Hopefully all teams will be injury free when that time arrives. It is always hard to have a young person work all year for the tournament and to get hurt and unable to participate.

Dear Counselor, sorry to inform you but you are fishing in the wrong pond with me. As I previously stated you should stick to bashing the boys and not the girls. I have personally known Bill Bradley since 1971 when he was a junior at Holy Family and I believe that he is an excellent coach, as for you maybe you should get back to reminiscing about the good ole days with OJ and the Hill.

Excommunication has had a lasting effect. Your bitterness is unfortunate. However, for the good of all, you had to go. I think they call it addition by subtraction.

I guess we will agree to disagree. Simon Kenton just beat Newport Central Catholic, who beat Highlands by 17. BOTH Newport Central Catholic and Highlands beat Ashland. Scott has played a killer schedule which contributes to their record more than anything. They just lost to Mercy by 4 last night after leading by 10 entering the 4th quarter. Mercy just beat Manuel a couple of weeks ago. Didn't get to go to the game but I heard Fairland is REALLY good, not just good. And you mentioned scrimmage games, I believe East Carter also scrimmaged St. Joe WVA. Like I said before Ashland has played a VERY tough schedule and is the best team in the region, but to again to say their schedule is the toughest BY FAR, you're still WAY off base!!
