Kentucky had way too many dumb penalties in this one. However, it was a great game. Congrats to each and every player who participated!

Heck of a finish! I thought he had it there at the end. But it popped out.

Congrats to all who played. It was a great game. I thought the Bell Co. boy's played exceptional and really showed what they could do. Congrats to Chase and Cory and Caleb. Chase gave us the lead but we couldn't hold on. He's a great QB and what an arm. 60 yard bullets off his back foot, are you kidding me? It makes me wonder what he could have done in his career with a team like Highlands around him. Also congrats to Michael Smith from Harlan Co..

Chase Roark was probably the best QB we saw this year. Hope he gets to play somewhere good in college because he has the talent and the arm.

Tennessee did a good job of slowing down davenport for most of the game, but he finally got the chance to show his speed and explosiveness on the screen play for a touchdown. I agree with you about Roark he really showed off his arm strength. But i was dissapointed with the big bell co. lineman, #43 defensive lineman for UT really dominated him the entire game.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the apparent fumble in the first half that was somehow ruled an incomplete pass.

It looked to me as though the Tenn. team was either well coached or had more time to practice. They were really clicking. The Ky. team looked like they had just 3 days of practice. Overall though, great game, great atmosphere. Some very talented kids from both teams.

I sure thought they had it twice today. After scoring to take the lead with 2:10 left in the fourth. Then came all of the stupid penalties that got Tennesse back into it including the mouthing by one player that caused the unsportsmanlike conduct. They took it to the house with 50 seconds left. Kentucky came back and drove to the Tennesee thirty with one play left. The pass went up and came down in a crowd and it looked like a blue jersey had it cradled and he came down, hit the ground and the ball came out. Heck of a game...very, very close. The offense couldn't seem to get tracked in the first half and the defense stepped up except for the first Tennesee possesion. The second half...especially the fourth quarter the offense did much better, but, the defense had a little more trouble. Overall, nothing to hang their heads about. One catch and Kentucky would have won. I really felt like when Kentucky got a sense of urgency on offense, they were the better team overall. Some of the kids I was really impressed with personally, were Hayes from Garrard, Robinson from Perry Central, Mike Smith from Harlan, Lake from Rockcastle, Peay from Allen County/Scottsville, Pitt from Henderson, Harrington from Boyle, Harness from John Hardin, Davenport from Bell, Burgy-Vanhoose from Pike and Walker from Holy Cross. This group seemed to rise above during the game. I was really impressed with the Pitt kid and hadn't heard of him before this game. Markell was all over the place from Garrard County and seemed to always make the play on the punt and pass coverage. What can you say about the Davenport kid but, WOW" on that reverse run....glad for once he was on our side. Now...everyone was involved in this game for Kentucky, but, this group is the group that I remember particular plays where they came through big. Good luck to all of the players on their futures whether they include football or not!

KY would have had better chance if they had a decent kicker. I've never heard of the kid but I guess his performance today was the reason

I personally saw several coaches there at the practices I watched. I saw coaches from; EKU, Murray State, University of the Cumberlands, Pikeville, Georgetown and Carson-Newman in Tennesee. Cumberlands' coach told me that they figured they might get as many as eight or ten from the players who played for both states.

I think you may be referring to two not very good punts, and that is it. Kickoff kid for KY put the first one thru the endzone, and the others were all inside the 5, plus he was 1/1 on his PAT's. I'm referring to Burgy-Vanhoose for Ky, not sure who you are referring to. The main reason KY lost yesterday was due to the stupid penalties on the last drive of Tennessee's. Unsportsmanlike conduct and a pass interference call (no argument on either one of them, but it was a tight game and the unsportsmanlike was kind of quick for players just woofing at each other). The defense was playing great in the second half, so I felt good about the game after KY took the lead. But it is what it is. We will be back on the field next year to do it again. Always enjoy this bowl.

Totally agreed.

There was a missed extra point, but that happens at every level. Why diss a kid. Especially on a public forum. The kicking had no effect on the outcome.:dudecomeon:

If you are referring to the punter, he dislocated his knee 4 days before in a basketball game so he was somehow still even playing.

good game all the way through!

I think he was referring to the Whitley County kicker on extra points.
I feel the punter was excellent and got off great kicks except the one that got partial blocked and the place kicker was really good from Pike County.

As for KICKERS, I was told Kentucky had 3 kickers on the team, the Somerset kid Alex Lange did the punting, Whitley Co. player Seth McCoy did the extra points, and the Pikeville player Zack Burgy-Vanhoose did Kickoffs and field goals, however no field goals were taken and and I was told that Zack Burgy-Vanhoose was told to kick the last extra point which he made.

How well did Bj Combs of Hazard and How did Matt Robinson do in this game?
01-09-2012, 01:15 PM
Robinson had a bunch of tackles early in the game when the TN team was running the football. From what I was told he represented himself well during the week. Combs I am not sure of. He did play but not sure how well?
01-09-2012, 05:45 PM
The punter, Alex Lange, didnt have a great game and he probably would be the first to tell you that. I talked to his coach at the game and asked why all he was doing was punting and he did confirm he dislocated his knee cap in a basketball game tuesday night. he said it popped out and right back in, but was very sore, although he would never use that as an excuse. He is a tough kid and a good football player. ran for 1200 yards and passed for 1200 yards as the QB for Somerset that made it to the semi finals. plus played linebacker for them. His coach said he couldnt do anything other than punt for risking further damage to his knee. Has cannon for leg but didnt show it saturday!

But yeah, that's also what I heard about the kickers. As for the kid who punted even after having a dislocated kneecap, OUCH! Tough kid, kudos to him.

Robinson represented well in the game. You are right, in the beginning of the game...I'm certain he was in on three of the first four tackles. My son talked about how easy going Matt was outside of practice and the game and how intense he got during the game. It was nice that a lot of the kids that played against each other during the season got to play together and found out what a great group they made up overall. I heard a lot of "sirs" and "excuse me's" while I was there at the practices. I never heard any "lip" directed at anyone else or the coaches that wasn't in good fun.

It sure did...the Tennesse team's powder puff team had a big ol' rough.....ahem....."not a girl":flame: on it. Well he tried to jerk at the belt instead of snatching a flag from the side of the belt on one of the girls from Knox County and liked to have took her sweats down while he tackled her. Why in the world they would let a "guy" on a team like that I don't know.:lame: But when they went down from the rought tackle, she gave him a lick on the back and he jumped up and called her in no specific terms something that I'd say her daddy would have jerked a knot in the boys' butt over if he had heard it.:eyeroll: I gotta give it to her...she laid into the :flame: "guy". That was one rough powder puff game and in my opinion.... no "guy" has any business on one of those teams no matter what.

lol thats classic.
I know my cousin was there and when i asked him about the game he said, "well, the actual game was pretty good, but the game at halftime was better" lol.
He said it was real close to getting nasty. He also said the big sheman Tennessee's team had was much larger in the groin area than he was lol.
