Sorry, talking about paintsville.

One was due to the book not being completed 10 mins prior to the game and the game started 20 mins early. And the regular book was forgotten back at school. The other two was due to the fact that the book was being filled out in a hurry and players switched jerseys, players added and left off the book. You had players with out jerseys and players with out shorts. I have kept the book for them for the last five years and this has NEVER happened. I was rushed and in a hurry for a game that should have started 20 mins later than it did and the first TECH should have never happened. I will take complete responsibility for it. If you ask any coach that has ever been around me, they will tell you that they would have me on their books in a heart beat! This was a complete CLUSTER from the get go! Should have NEVER started this way. If a game is scheduled for a certain time...it shouldn't start till that time! So tell me cricket...when have I ever messed up?

Yes you do...lol. Just wanted to clear it up. I'm a man. I can admit when I have screwed up. 3 points didn't decide the game though.

When a game is scheduled for a certain time it needs to take place at that time.

This is true, but matt had to agree with the change for the game to start early. It was an agreed upon time between coaches and officials. It wasnt sprung upon anyone. coach dropped the ball by not being prepared on an off the court. its like oth said he was rushed and matts assistants left the book in the locker room.the kids didnt forget the uniforms it was the staff did. just no preperation or maybe its the talent......thats why matt cant seem to win a game....its the level of talent he has to work with....lol....on a side not , OTH does a good job with the books for the Tigers...just like he said 3 points didnt beat them....What beat them was when bill mike retired ....someones just over their head an slowly drowning a once elite basketball program..........................:Sad04:

All I wanted to know was how, who or what the technical fouls were for. Not blaming anyone.

P-burg game this year. That game started on time and the Burchett kid got a technical cause he had a different number than what was in the book.

^ Though I understand that rule, I dislike it
12-28-2011, 11:05 AM
This is a rule that I have seen rarely enforced and I have been present at thousands of high school games. This was probably a tournament with rigid rules so the games would start on time. The problem is they also sometimes try to start them early to keep ahead of schedule. Another thing I want to address is uniforms. Why is it that kids struggle so much with uniforms. I do not know if this was the situation but kids really struggle with bringing their uniforms to the game. This is a very basic mundane task but you think you were asking them to invent the cure for Cancer. The problem is that so many kids (not all) depend on mommy and daddy to do every simple thing for them and they cannot do anything for themselves.

PREPERATION then theres no confusion. to answer your question....yes, and the next, then the next an so on. i just get sick of so many blaming the talent level for inferior coaching. heres my thoughts, take the soccer program for example. how many years have they had a team? 4-5 at most. they compete and beat teams that have established programs. dexter may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but he can relate, communicate, and dictate to modern time teenage atheletes. now lets look at the baseball program. jdm took a team that had no shot(according to everyone) and did pretty well with them. i see good things from mr. miller because he can relate, communicate, and dictate to todays teenagers. football should do better with bmr as head coach not because of the talent in the middle school as everyone suggests. he will teach FUNDAMENTALS to the kids and execute GAMEPLANS. so Mr Hustle these are some of my thoughts about the programs.

Think your smart don't ya Ike. Better know what you're saying before ya try and say it. BUT, for your info. I was told that night to not worry about the book and it was handed to me already filled out, while they were warming up, and you know they warm up with their warmup tops on. It was not noticed til he hit the floor. So there ya go. Wasn't on me COOTER.

Hooks right the coaches should have the book ready.

No offense hook, but if you are the book keeper i dont care who hands you the book you need to double check everything if its your responsibility to keep it. If the book is not correct & you are the book keeper it is on you. Sorry.

He discovers serious error that ultimately ends in penalty which he has no time to correct. How is that his fault. It seems to me that he must have capacity before he can be faulted.

Understand what your saying, but i've coached & done books at different times. I'm just the type of guy to take responsibility. If its my job to do the books & there is a mistake then its my fault. No matter who filled it out & handed it to me its my responsibility to make sure its correct. I'm the book keeper. Not being argumentive either. Just my opinion.

The problems are much more complex I am afraid. There is enough responsibility to go full circle. When one trys to isolate the problem with multiple causitive factors without recognition and attention of each, its a Circus. Anyone who has been around the sports programs at PHS for the last 5-6 years should have pretty good insight as to the situation and its consequences. More expression: Not in this venue!!!!!

No offense taken. But, reread what I said. I was at the table and they had their warm ups on. No possible way to tell and the kid had on a different jersey from the previous game. Like I said. No one was aware til he checked in an hit the floor. I do take the blame, just like I did for last nights cluster.

^^ Same thing happened to me a couple seasons ago. I had already made an error earlier in the season, which was 100% my fault and lead to a technical foul, so one of the coaches said it wasn't a big deal and they would fill the book out in pre-game from then on. Well one game, Taylor Ratliff had lost his #1 jersey and was wearing #11. I even took the time to literally go down player by player and make sure the numbers next to their name was correct based on the everyday usual #s. Well, Taylor didn't tell anyone including the coaches lol. So, since the warmups were on all pre-game without personally walking out there to midcourt and checking with players during lay up lines (which this game caused me to start doing lol) there was no chance this was going to be avoided. Sometimes stuff happens. And when it does, I and I am sure OTH and many others having no trouble accepting responsibility, admitting the mistake, and moving on.
Luckily in most cases, it is not going to decide a game and really should not be that big of a deal. Most people that do this thing are unpaid and just do it to help out their local school. It really at times can be a stressful task and 95% of the time it is done very well. I am sure I am being hypocritical here, but it really does take doing it for a season or two, before you can complain about someone else doing it poorly.

Wasn't trying to cause a stink, just replying to a questions. Seems to be a problem though at Paintsville. A problem that could be solved very easy. Have each kid come to the scorer/book keeper and lift his warm up uniform and show you his number. I agree with everyone that has commented on this topic but from here on NO excuses for anyone. Its obvious the coaches can't keep up with things so take initiative and make it right.

The ones that like to complain are the ones that fail to put in the time to help.

You know what COOTER? And Everyone knows who I am. I have NEVER hid. And as for books. You can go back to Coach Runyon and Bob VanHoose in Grade School. I think my resume speaks for it's self. What's done is done and it's a day that I will soon forget.
