Owsley is in trouble. They were young and thin to begin with (started 4 sophomores and a junior, and came off the bench with 2 sophomores), but now the Grove kid who starts pg, leading scorer and probably 2nd in rebounds, is out for 3 weeks with a knee injury. And the other guard, one of the better outside threats on the team (24 pts the Lee Co game) has been kicked off the team.

With their whole team they played Powell county to a 5 pt loss and Lee to a 12 pt defeat. Not great but not terrible either for such a young team. They're going to struggle now, especially until Grove gets back on the team.

WOW!! Looks like they're going to have to start looking towards next season already!

It's not going to get any easier for Owsley. They play Breathitt Thursday, and the Bobcats had their way with Hazard, winning by over 20.
Owsley would have still lost to Hazard even if they had their entire team, but they sorely miss Grove (injured) and Shelby (suspended). With them I don't think it would have been this bad. As I said earlier they were very competitive with Powell and finished strong against Lee before losing by 12. They beat Lynn Camp by around 25, but without these two players they lost to Lynn Camp two weeks later by about 20. These two are the guards that run the offense, and in Groves case, at 6'2 he is also a good rebounder. Both are also key to the press offense.
Owsley will improve as the season continues, but they are not in the same league with the Perry's, Hazard's, Knott's, etc, this year.
However when everyone gets healthy and the whole team is back I believe they will be a factor in the 56th district, which is the weakest district in the region. I don't know if they can win it, but they might pull an upset (only down to Powell by 1 with about 50 seconds left in that game before losing by 5). They're not as bad as this score indicates.
