Hazard Bulldogs - Class 1A State Champs
#1
First, Congrats to Coach Dixon and the Hazard Bulldog team. A lot of people don't really understand what this title means to our school and community. 1st ever. Not only can Hazard be proud of winning the game but they can be very proud of the way the team played, focused and full-hearted.

Everyone who has asked me about the game I have told them "Coach Dixon and his staff coached the best game I've ever seen in any sport." Not taking anything away from the players because they went out and did what they had to do but Coach Dixon had a great game plan. Another thing I hope the school system understands what Coach Dixon means to the Football program and finds alittle extra money from somewhere and make Coach Dixon a Bulldog for life. Before Coach Mark Dixon, Hazard was a football program that no one really cared about. But the biggest thing Coach Dixon has overcome in his stay at Hazard is the basketball school title. But I promise you this Hazard is a football/basketball school now. One more thing about the coaching staff. I have took some heat over a comment I posted a few mouths ago about OC - Coach Fugate. I even got some PM's from people trash talking BUT if you've ever talked to me about the topic in person or on here I've always said Coach Fugate WILL make a great Head Coach. A lot of people including myself question his play calling but that will happen when a team has so many play-makers. But after the State Championship game Coach Fugate could have turned around and told all Hazard fans to " SHUT UP, I know what I am doing!" Him and Coach Dixon are great coaches. You will not find a more Classy person on or off the field then Coach Dixon.

NOW, I don't want to take anything away from the players because they played great. I have known Bj Combs and Zach Blanton a very long time, they have been friends of my younger brother forever and I'm very proud of the way they led this team. But there are some other players that were big time leaders in the locker room and on the field that don't get credit as much as Combs and Blanton. Dylan Logan, Jordan Hampton, Deion Harris (Inj.) and Zach Miller I don't think you can find a play that these players have taken off. All very hard workers and good football players. Not only did the senior led their team to a State title but they showed players like Jordan Olinger, Austin Johnson, Ryan Whitaker, and Brandon Jones how to be leaders.

Just had to get my Bullldog pride off my chest.

I would like to add a few comments to EKFF's post.

Ric Flair use to have a saying, "To be the Man, you got to beat the Man". If you’re going to win the Class A title you want to win against Mayfield or Beechwood, because they are the elite programs of 1A football. So to win against Mayfield makes this title all that much more significant.

Hazard has been building toward this championship under Coach Dixon. He has built a winning program into a title contender and now a State Champ. I do want to mention Coach Paul Rains who really got this ball rolling in the early 90’s. With the exception of the 1986 team that lost in the playoffs to a loaded Somerset team, Hazard football hadn’t had much success since the 1960’s when they battled Highlands. Coach Rains laid the foundation for the transformation from a team to a program.

Congratulations to Coach Dixon and the Hazard Bulldogs 2011 Class A State Champs!

In the last five years Hazard has been to the finals the same amount as Mayfield. Both have won one time. It is something really big for Hazard to keep building on. Some kids who are walking the halls may now come out for the team that didn't before. Tradition means everything and ya'll have a great start on that.

Also wanted to say that Hazard played a very clean game and are about as classy as you can get.

Congrats to all members of the Hazard program. I would like to send a special congrats to Coach Wade Lindon and all member of the middle school program. They have a great middle program and always seem to have their players ready for the high school level.
