East Ridge is very capable of winning the region this year. If Kasongo works and improves on his offensive footwork and can stay out of foul trouble, East Ridge could be dangerous at the end of the year. Wolter is a tough defensive player also. The other players for East Ridge do not get enough credit as they played well tonight. This game could have went either way but ER won it fair and square. Letcher Central needs to work on free throw and perimeter shooting to win the big games.

Why did Coach Hamonds make them hold the ball twice when they are down?
12-09-2011, 01:39 AM
Kasonga must have read some BGR. From the stats it sounds like he played a hell of a ball game. East Ridge gets all their guns firing and everyone playing together this team could go far.

How many blocks did kasongo have?

I believe I called this one exactly right in the pre-game thread. My prediction was, "ER wins by 3 in a barnburner". :worthy:
At least from the sounds of this thread, both schools' fans have gained a newfound respect for the opposing team. Both ER and LCC will be in the mix for their respective regions come March...

Wow...what a game. I love my Warriors. I have the official stats for East Ridge, as I will for every game.
PG Tony Wolter -- 23 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 turnover
SG Johnny Miller -- 9 points, 4 steals, 2 assists
SF Kory Thacker -- 0 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks, 3 turnovers
PF Hayden Mullins -- 12 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 turnovers
C Ray Kasango -- 16 points, 9 rebounds, 9 blocks
ER team shooting -- 25-53 FG's, 6-14 3P's, 4-8 FT's. Nearly 50% shooting...
Had a starter get a double-double, and another come 1 rebound and one block away from a Triple-Double....
LCC tried to be physical, hard...but after Kasongo sent about 4 balls about 10 feet and put in 2 ally-oops with his face at the rim, LCC was just plain scared of the paint.
Also, Tony Wolter can ball. He will play big time D-1 ball. He's getting used to this offense and he will dominate this Region, along with Ray. The SF, Kory Thacker, is probably one of the top defenders in the Region as well. Good job men!
Good luck Letcher.

What was Kasongo's turnover rate?
12-09-2011, 05:57 AM
He just had 1 TO...the big surprise is how good Tony looked.
OrangenowBlue, you make itto the game?
And Dusty..some of those stats are wrong. Mine are 100%, I did them myself and checked them with Coach LeMaster and the radio dudes.
Kasongo and Tony Wolter will be playing Top 25 Div 1 ball in a few years...no doubt about it in my mind. Love those boys..really, really good, humble young men.

Good win for East Ridge, but still a lot of unknowns about this team. I'm more convinced that Wolter will be a game changer than Kasongo. A good PG will take you farther than anything else (See SV 2 years ago). The schedule doesn't look extremely difficult from here on out as they don't appear to play any other Kentucky teams of signifigance.
East Ridge will run up a nice record this year, but it will be hard to compare them to teams from outside this area. The 8th Region may be the only other Region as weak as the 15th and the top team from that Region beat them by 11. (early in the season though).
I think what is pushing a lot of people's buttons right now (haters) is a bit of arrogance from East Ridge fans, and the fact that they are winning primarily because of 2 high profile transfers from out of the country. Anytime this happens, you are going to have a lot of attention put on you. Should be a fun year though, but I don't look for East Ridge to lose again for a while with that schedule.

Letcher Central is a good team this year as, of course, East Ridge is also. LCC needs to improve if they have a shot in the 14th as it is the toughest it has been in over 20+ years. If Knott Central keeps improving and Perry Central gets Jaysean eligible, you may have two Top 10 teams in the state in that region this year. That is not counting Buckhorn, Hazard, and Breathitt County(when they get their basketball legs under them). I do not think the 15th is as strong as there is no dominant team like the Shelby Valleys of the past. This has opened the door for East Ridge to be a legitimate contender and have a good shot of going to Rupp. One team that seems to have caught my interest in the 15th is Sheldon Clark. They appear to be dangerous also.

the 14th region is not as strong as it has been in the past 20+ yrs lol. just because the talent is down an teams are competitive doesnt mean the region is strong. when i played my sr season in 06-07 the top 5 then could beat any of the top 5 this yr. jbs, hazard, pcc, powell, kcc, and lcc would dom these teams.

Didn't get to go to the game because I had finals but I would like to say congrats to my Warriors! Roll Tribe!

This surprises me. I thought LCC would win. They are a senior dominated team and I really thought they would possibly compete for the 14thregion title. PCC and KCC appear the best at this time. Seems to me the rest have a ways to go. Season is just starting ---lot of variables still out there. Should be exciting year to watch high school B-ball

Everyone always feels the teams are better when they played. With that being said, I respectfully disagree with your comment.

Wow, Grapevine, good clue. And? Unless you are Tony's guardian, which you're not, you're not closer to him than I am.
ER will have the same roster come Region as they do now.
