CNN is reporting that only 1 miner has has been found alive and he is in critical condition.
01-04-2006, 04:52 AM
A woman came out of the Church saying that the Governor and Mine Officials said that the survivor transported to the Hospital is the only survivor, that they other 11 apparently didn't make it.

I am watching too... Some woman on CNN who was inside the Church said the CEO of the mines came in and told them only man is alive and he is at the hospital.. and the one person alive is in critical condition..I hope this is not true

Very sad...it appers that it is true. The families seem to be very upset with the officals. They got thier hopes up like this over false information...very unfortunate.
01-04-2006, 04:58 AM
It's hard to believe it ended up like this.. everybody was so happy thinking they were getting their family members back and now they have been let down.. Randal McCloy is the only survivor.
01-04-2006, 05:02 AM
Amazing...I have never really seen anything like this. This just makes the tragedy so much worse for the families, someone will answer to this.

It's on all the news stations now
01-04-2006, 05:07 AM
This is unbelievable and should of never happened to those families who were told there family members were alive and then told oh sorry that was a mistake. How in the world does this happen? I can't believe this it's insane.

Ugh. I have not been this ****ed in a long time.
Look at this talking head on the TV.
What a complete joke.

There's a news conference on now about the situation....
01-04-2006, 05:15 AM
This is ridiculous, how can a mistake as such be made. I can't imagine what the families are going through. After they were saying all 12 miners were alive and that they were coming to a press conference after they're rescued. I just don't know how the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. May God bless everyone involved in some way.
01-04-2006, 05:18 AM
They are saying the miscommunication came from the command center and not from the company
Everybody pray for the survivor and for the family and friends of the miners who didn't make it

I really don't know what to think right now. All those families were so happy and then someone comes in and says we're sorry but your loved ones didn't make it. I will be praying for all the families and the communitty

I smell a rat. This company has been very careful with their communication from the start. They have played it way too smart to be the ones to leak the information. Don't get me wrong--I am pretty p/o'd. But they have been extremely careful.
I know the Govenor was trying to help--(I am speculating) but I would be willing to bet that he got excited and started telling people that everyone was alive. Now he is curiously absent. I can't say that I wouldn't have done the same thing--but someone is covering something up.

Somebody told the Governor the miners were alive after the news came from the Command Center... So I'm sure he would want to spread the good news he heard.. I don't see him trying to start a rumor like this
01-04-2006, 05:35 AM
CNN said around 20 minutes after the initial report of the 12 surviving , the company knew the information was just a miscommunication and just didn't want to say anything until they were sure of the exact number of survivors.. how could they just let those families sit there that long and think their family members are going to be joining them soon
01-04-2006, 05:39 AM
I can't get the picture of that little boy running to his Mom saying that he knew his Daddy was alive.

I see what you are saying--but the company didn't go out and tell the families that there were survivors. Like I said--I could see why the Govenor would do it. But his camp has already backed off his previous statements. (Where he reported that they were alive).
It is real funny how the company guy said that the govenor was there when the INITIAL word was given that they were alive. And now the govenor is saying that he wasn't there.
Keep in mind--the company has been VERY careful with there communication. Ben Hatfield REFUSED to speculate about anything that he didn't know for sure.
The culprit is on TV right now . . . . and remember--he just said that he knew pretty early that there was a miscommunication--and he didn't act to tell the families either.
It bothers me that the families are convinced that the company intentionally lied--but their govenor carries just as much (if not more) blame than anyone.
01-04-2006, 05:45 AM
I don't see why the Governor would do it, like he said does anyone know for sure if the other 11 are dead. You can't call him the culprit just yet
01-04-2006, 05:46 AM
You can't just blame one person, especially with everything that these people have been through
01-04-2006, 05:48 AM
I don't see how anybody can blame the Governor right now.. I don't think this was done purposely by anybody.. it was a miscommunication..

He has already perjured him self--and he is doing it right now on the TV.
I DON'T think that he did it on purpose. I DO think he was trying to help the families. I think that he got a little too excited and he made a major screw up.
He says that he was with the families. The company says that he was there when the announcement was made.
Listen to what he just said--even if he wasn't there--he said he got there in 20 minutes and heard that there was miscommunication.
He SAT THERE FOR 2 HOURS AND DID NOTHING. The company never RELEASED ANY INFORMATION.

Would you be willing to say the same thing about the company?
01-04-2006, 05:52 AM
He probably sat there to make to make sure there wouldn't be ANOTHER miscommunication. You can't blame one person in this matter. Instead of trying to blame someone right now I'm thinking about the families who lost their loved ones.

No offense--but that is pretty weak. The govenor has been a CONSTANT communicator of all information (when he probably should have been more discrete). The company has NEVER speculated about one aspect of this situation.
There has been a common theme--the company has BEEN EXTREMELY TIGHT LIPPED AND THEY HAVE HANDLED THE COMMUNICATION IN A NEARLY PERFECT WAY (Especially when it comes to CONTROLLING SPECULATION).
I have a feeling that the families are looking for who to blame. We have the luxary of not having to deal with the fact that we don't have to bury our loved ones.
We, as Americans, have an obligation to share their outrage.
Also--notice that the reporters are starting to hammer the govenor--they know what is going on. (Listen to the tone of their questions--they smell blood).
Listen to him trying to avoid the subject!

The press hammers everyone not just the Govenor. Your trying to blame the Governor only, thats pretty weak. You can't be 100% positive on who to blame. I am outraged too but I'm not going to blame just one person, you never know who the company could have talked to unless you were there. I just want to thank the rescue workers who went in there risking their own lifes and I'll be praying for the families. No matter who is to blame, this is all horrible!

Or you could even blame the person who they say recieved the cell phone call or whatever. There's so many people or things you could blame. It wasn't intentional, it was a miscommunication. No one wanted this to happen. Even if the Governor was the one to tell people, I'm sure that he didn't make it up, someone had to tell him. Actually, CNN is saying that the big question is if the company did know that there had been a miscommunication why did they wait 3 hours, they could have stated that they hadn't confirmed if those 12 miners were alive or not. If you say that my reasoning is weak, I guess CNN's is also because they aren't blaming the Governor either.
Now a woman said that the Company's CEO Ben Hatfield came and told them that the 12 miners were alive and showed them how he planned on getting them out. Even if this is true you can't blame just the Company and thats my point. Everyone was so nervous and in shock that no one knew what was going on.
