Stephens named new Southwestern coach
#31
Team was the most talented team to come thru that school. IMO. Take dale out of it and they go to state if not win it. Of course IMO.
#32
Congrats and good luck in the future.

I agree. If there is another coach there, they are in the state title game.

You people are outrageously ignorant. In 99 Lawrence county with Mike West, Jeard Parker and thier record setting offense was on the same side of the bracket as S.W. If you beat them them you travel to Highlands and beat Lorenzens team just to make the finals. Highlands won it all that year and throttled Lawrence in the semi. I think Lorenzen, Smith and company scored 77 on them that year.

No, we're talking about if the alignment was the way it is now with SW in Class 5A. I know SW wouldn't stand a chance against Highlands then or now.

Who is outrageously ignorant? I think it is you sir. In 1999 Southwestern was on the west side of the bracket. They lost to Bullitt East who made it to the state semi-finals before losing to Owensboro 21-6. Owensboro was beaten the next week by Highlands 48-10. You really should look stuff up before you start calling people ignorant--it just shows your ignorance when you don't. :betterthanexpected:

Oh, I did screw that up! (I should have looked it up instead of thinking somerset wouldn't be in the western half of the state) So now a team that lost in the 1st round would have beaten Owensboro to make the finals? Bo Smith and that other d-1 kid in the backfield.
#38
In this current playoff brackets, the '06 team would have been playing this week in Bowling Green.

Yeah, I agree with that, too. That was a dang good team.

i dont want to use the players names but two that went to the air force, four that signed to play at Morehead, and one that signed with Eastern. just off the top of my head.

well only air force is a D1 school. Clinton mikel is the only one who I can think went to AF. He is a lawyer now from Colgate and Michigan law, seems to be doing pretty good....
#45
Clinton was a great kid. I am glad he is doing well. But Coach A built him up to be a much better player than he actually was. He got recruited by a school that he had no business going to. He wasn't the only one over trhe years. Peace out.

I think Flynn was the other one that went to AF and he really had no business in D1, I don't know if he stayed until the season started. I think Dale has a few SW fans blinded by the so-called D1 talent he had over the years, when in reality the talent level at SW is only decent. I'll give it to him, he was great at getting players to schools well above their talent level.

SW D1 players:
Matt Sexton, LouisvilleConfusedtarted
Arby Jones, Wake Forest: started for conference champs. Played in BCS bowl game
D.T. Boone, Ohio, started
Scott Blair, Ball St. started
Lee Renfro, Ohio. first team all conference, played in bowl game.
Jon Belcher, Ball St. transferred to WKU started
Matt Pearson, Louisville long snapper
Can't think of the rest right now but way more played than did not.. Anderson also helped kids from Somerset, Pulaski Co. South Laurel, and Lincoln Co. to name a few get a chance to play college ball when their coaches offered little help in the process.

Now that the season is over, add Rob Lewis to that list

That is true. Coach A was always willing to help out other kids get scholarships. Classy move on his part.

Add
GJ Woolridge- WKU- Lettered 2 years I think.
Sam Sexton- WKU- Started

Only mistake I see. MP never made it thru freshman preseason, he was also a walk-on.

GetChili Wrote:I think Stephens is a good hire for these reasons: 1) He is already a math teacher at the school. 2) He knows the kids. 3) The kids know his style of play. 4) He is great guy. 5) He knows what he is doing. 6) FIRST REGION TITLE IN SCHOOL HISTORY. 7) Best record in school history. 8) Beat #3 Harlan County & #4 Christian County. 9) Won 1st district title since 06. 10) Beat PC for first time since 06. 11) Went on a 9-game winning streak. I could go on and on and on...

Apparently Dale Anderson had a healthy relationship with them too.

You call THAT healthy? Interesting.

Dale Anderson never helped any PC kid get any scholarship. Dale Anderson has no say in who gets college scholarships. The college coaches make that call. Dale Anderson has never had anything to do with the 30 or so Pulaski County players that have signed and played college football. Our coach does more to promote kids to colleges than any coach I have seen.

I also disagree with that.

Maybe he helped kids at South Laurel and Lincoln if you say so, but who were the Somerset players that he helped over the years? Sorry but I know all of the players at Somerset that have gone on to play college ball over the past 15 years and Dale didn't have anything to do with their recruitment.

He did help at least one PC player get a scholarship. I know that for sure, because the kid told me he did.

And he did help a Somerset kid.. I was standing right beside the kid when he thanked Coach A for his help..
