you add up all of them and BG is way higher than Lou.

Something to eat? You can't go 3.5 hours without a meal? Seriously? Eat when you get there at the tailgate parties. Back a pic a nic basket and join the other Highlands fans in the parking lot getting ready for the game.
I'll give you the bathroom break of 10 minutes or so, but come on folks. I have to agree with adopted purple. Seems like people like finding something to complain about. The trip is a once a blooming year occurrence. Trust me the CovCath fans would love to have the inconvenience of a 3.5 hour to watch their team play in the championship game.
If that doesn't change you mind, look at it this way: we had no long playoff trips to Johnson Central or Harlan County. Our only road trip during the playoffs was to Lex Central. Make an event out of it; get a group of Highlands fans and caravan down together; tailgate before the game; and go in and cheer the Birds onto number 21. I'm just happy and appreciative that we got the 3:00 pm Central time Saturday game. Most folks don't have to miss work; you can leave the house at a decent hour Saturday morning; and you can be home at a decent hour Saturday night. It could have been much, much worse.
Perhaps some day EKU will submit a proposal that the KHSAA can seriously consider. Until then, with UL unable to guarantee the use of their field both Friday and Saturday due to Big East rules, it's driving to WKU once a year. I'll take it in a fat man's heart beat.

I'm not a fan of driving down to Bowling Green from NKY, but L.T. Smith Stadium is an awesome stadium and almost perfect size for the state finals

Football is right there with basketball. Baseball is somewhere in the neighborhood with track and wrestling.
Sorry about your luck up there, but here further south of you...Baseball lives. Just look at all the kids/ players drafted by or scouted by MLB from Lexington and sorrounding counties.

Complaining about the game being in a far corner of the state is legit.

The Sweet 16 basketball tourney is the clear cut cash cow of all the state championships, always was, always will be. I pretty sure the KHSAA does not care what you think. Plenty of real estate available in Ohio(the little land of Poland).

I just checked. The games will be live online on I-High. Quick way to go directly is to go on khsaa.org, then click on the I-High video icon. Scroll down and you will find the schedule of video. Hope this helps.

I did have trouble watching the first half of the HHS vs. Lex Cath game though. But was able to view the 2nd half. Not sure if it has to do with the number of people viewing or not.

Uk has natural turf. Can't play 6 games in two days on natural turf especially in late Nov. and early Dec. Just think of the weather we have had this week and imagine what that field would be like even on Friday night.
Louisville is still playing football on Sat. , scheduling is iffy and messy at best.
Eastern has the field but does not have the accomodations. Not enough hotels to take care of teams and fans. So many hotels have to be quarantied for teams and fans.
So that is why Bowling Green is perfect. It has field turf, plenty of hotels, and the local college teams season is over by then.
Personnally I love the stadium. It is the perfect size for high school football and I think the University and Bowling Green do a tremendous job in hosting .

Are there really that many more hotel rooms in the Bowling Green area than in the Richmond area, especially considering Lexington is only 15-20 away from EKU?

Totally agree. It should be at EKU. Close to Lexington and just off the interstate with plenty of accomidation in nearby Lexington.

Is Lex really only 15-20 minutes away from EKU? Seems longer to me than that. Assuming you are right however, the last thing that the KHSAA wants are games delayed due to a team bus getting stuck on the interstate due to an accident on the way to the stadium. With all the hotels in BG proper, even if there is an accident it's generally easier to get around /out of the congestion by using side roads than it is getting a bus out of a traffic jam on the interstate. That may seem lame and weak, but I know the KHSAA spends a lot of time thinking about the unexpected when it comes to the logistics and administration of the championship games.
Trust me on this point: if EKU submitted a bid that was equal to WKU's in financing, accomodations, etc., etc., the KHSAA staff (whom all live in Lex.) would be pushing hard for EKU to be awarded the championship site. Those folks spend many long days preparing for and running the championship games. I'm quite certain that if they could go home at the end of the long days and spend the night in their own beds, they'd be pushing hard to have them at EKU.
I don't think the last time the KHSAA requested proposals from all schools/cities interested in hosting the football playoffs that EKU/Richmond even submitted a proposal. Maybe they did, but I sure don't remember them doing so. Hopefully they can do so in the future.
If EKU/Richmond can submit a proposal competitive with WKU/BG in the future, I'd be all in favor of having it at EKU.

Fair enough. If the drive is too long because you "like" to break up a long drive to eat, and because you "must" stop a lot because of your health problems (which you neglected to mention in your prior post discussing the additional 1 hour of travel time by the way), and because you "don't tailgate", and because you "don't care" for stadium food, I suggest you stay at home and watch it on the internet. The KHSAA won't and can't make it's venue decisions because of what you don't like to do and because of your health problems. It just can't. That may sound harsh, but it is what it is.
And again, when the KHSAA moved it to WKU two years ago, WKU was the only school that submitted a proposal. EKU didn't and to the best of my knowledge hasn't. UL couldn't host the games due to the fact that the Big East is still playing this week and because the Big East would not allow UL to guarantee the KHSAA that Papa John's would be available to host the championship games on Friday and Saturday.
If the bitching is just bitching because WKU is inconvenient for you, by all means, keep bitching. No location is convenient to every one in the state. If the pitching is about the KHSAA's decision to go with WKU, there wasn't any other viable alternative that I'm aware of, so you're bitching about about a KHSAA decision that it had no choice but to make.
And it is a once a year (at best) inconvenience. I'd like to think once a year to cheer on the Birds that you could get over liking to break up long drives by eating; that you could eat at a tail gate; or that you could get over your dislike for stadium food. It's once a year (at best).

According to http://book.kentucky-hotels.org/city/?re...07997&t=mp there are 12 hotels in Richmond with an additional 47 within 23 miles.
EKU installed turf http://www.ekusports.com/news/2009/7/20/...91516.aspx in the summer of 2009, I assume at about the same time or after the last bid.
I am not in favor of or against games being played at EKU...It just surprised me a little that BG had a vast number more hotel rooms than Richmond.
Another, "just wondering", how many teams actually spend the night at a championship venue?

To your question: if fluctuates from year to year. Unfortunately when making the decision on the venue, one can't know for certain what schools will make the championship game and what the schools' decisions will be. So they have to plan on all 12 teams staying. This year, I believe only 5 teams are spending a night.
According to the site you linked, there are 24 hotels in BG.
Also keep in mind that not every hotel is willing to give the KHSAA a favorable rate. If there are other events in the area planned for that weekend, the ability to get a favorable rate when there are fewer hotels is decreased.

With so many states showing thir state finals in football on TV one would think that Kentucky would be doing this.

It's all a matter of who slips in and spends the money to broadcast the event. In this case, iHigh.com snuck in there and got the exclusive rights to host it live.
