Why are championship games not televised?
#1
I look forward to this Friday and Saturday when all the six class championships in Ohio will be telecast. Ohio has done this for a number of years.

Why can't Kentucky/KHSAA do the same?
#2
because everyone here likes stupid basketball
#3
Would be nice. I know they televised boys and girls basketball finals, and if I am not mistaken they televised baseball finals.

My Priorities are:
1)God
2)Family
3)Cougar Athletics!

Everything else doesn't matter![/COLOR]

KY should eliminate 2 classes.

WYMT/WKYT has shown the game the last few times that Belfry has been in the finals and possible show the Hazard game as well. I do agree however it would be nice for all the games to be televised by a central broadcaster with some real production values. No offense to the local stations that make the trip and cover it but the production are usually a bit lacking.

There's nothing stupid about basketball, and televising basketball
or not is no valid answer to why they don't televise the football.
#7
It's a basketball state, then baseball. Unlike California, Texas, Florida and Ohio....Football is worship.

The OHSAA (Ohio) is finding that the live telecasts of the state championships is reducing attendance. I am not sure that the TV rights are making up for the reduced ticket sales. It is not like the games are shown on free tv either, I know in the Cincinnati area the games are shown on cable and that only those with the digital cable package get them. At my home in suburban Cincinnati the OHSAA finals are on Time Warner cable channel 99, which usually is used for promos only.

I remember several years ago that KET showed the state championships on a delayed basis. Delayed, yes, but at least it was better than no showing at all.

It is all about the Benjamins. Why drive 5 hours and spend a bunch of money when I could watch the game at home on tv,warm, and with a cold one? I predict one of the lowest attended finals in recent history.
#10
I agree...I can't make it to the games this year and they won't be on my TV anyway, but I could watch them online. Hopefully we'll be able too.

Why drive 5 hours to watch a blowout anyway? This crap of holding the finals in western KY. is just crazy. What about those in EKY that might want to go, it might take them 8 or 9 hours to drive. Louisville or Lex. is the only fair option.
#12
KHSAA doesn't show football state championships live because they believe it will hurt their attendance numbers and in result, lose money, which is the primary reason why they have 6 classes in football.

My boys at Holy Cross are playing in the state finals and even if the game was online, I'm still going down to BG to watch it live. But I do know several people going down that would've stayed if it were shown online.

How much are tickets to the finals?

CAN'T GET RIGHT Wrote:How much are tickets to the finals?

$8 pre-sale at all schools playing in the state finals, $10 at the gate

CAN'T GET RIGHT Wrote:How much are tickets to the finals?

$8 in advance through your school or $10 at the gate.

I disagree about the attendance being down this year. With Bowling Green, Franklin Simpson, and Glasgow all being local teams with great fan bases and Trinity, Highlands, and Mayfield also bring huge followings, this could be one of the best attended ever.

Basketball then baseball?
ever go to a NKY high school baseball game? there are like 20 people there.
Football is right there with basketball. Baseball is somewhere in the neighborhood with track and wrestling.

I don't know about now but in previous years you would not find half the crowd at a Belfry basketball as you would on a Friday night
#20
The state knows that most folks dislike WKU simply due to it's inconvenient location. Throw in the annual mismatches and u have the makings for dismal earnings. BLocking the telecasts only makes me that much more determined to not attend. Find a more central location and u fix the problem. I guess western Kentucky needs the economic stimulus so they'll continue to dangle the carrot over us hoping we take the bait.:moon:

#1 there until recently wasn't anyplace in Eastern Ky that could hold all 6 games over two days (EKU now has turf)

#2 it doesn't take 8 or 9 hours to drive from Ashland to Paducah, so the drive isn't quite as bad as you make it sound.

#3 Fair? how fair is it for far western team or far eastern team to have to go to Louisville? Lexington, even though it is the most centrally located (still a long drive for Mayfield, Paducah ect...), can't host as they have no facility that could host 6 games in two days. Bowling Green / WKU do a great job hosting the championship and the stadium is much more suited to HS Championship Games than Papa Johns or Commonwealth.

As far as blowouts go, there are blowouts every year in every state. This is not just an Ky anomaly.

Belfry always brings a big crowd, hell I remember outnumbering Central in 2007 in Louisville.

look how many 200+ distances there are for BG. There is only one 200+ for Lou. and that one is closer to Lou than BG

you add up all of them and BG is way higher than Lou.

Wow, that is a heck of a long trip for Belfry!

EKU got the all A
