Boyd County fires Head football coach Lee Evans.
#1
I think they made a big mistake.

Agree

Lee is a super person and a great guy. He is full of character and is a good mentor for any young man. Boyd just doesn't have the talent to compete with their district. He did the best he could do with what he had.

Complete turn around from last season.

Yeah the young talent was coming along they really improved from last year let's just hope the kids stick with the game and they find the right coach. The talent is there for the county i dont understand why the administration settles for mediocrity all the time.

What kind of teaching assignment does Boyd offer with the coaching position?

Can kids from anywhere in the county attend Boyd?

What is the coaching stipend?

Is the coach allowed to have input on hires for assistant coaches that will actually be in the building?

What is the relationship with the feeder system?

A lot of good football in this area: Ashland, Russell, Fairview, and Raceland-with Ironton right across the river. What holds Boyd back?
#7
How long has he been at Boyd?
#8
I know it is early but who are the names being mentioned to take over the troubled program? The school must have a list of people they want or they would not have made this decision to let him go. Unless they have a short list of guys to go after they may end up with someone not as good as they had. I saw them play a couple of times this year and while they were still not great they were much better than the last couple of years and I think they had less talent this year. The Coach commented in the Ashland paper that one reason he was given was not being competitive in their district. I am pretty sure that both Ashland and JC were both top 10 teams in 4A this year ( I would put Ashland in the top 4-5 and JC is the top 8) and Boyd was very competitive in their game with Rowan County and beat Greenup. Not sure you could have asked for much more this year in that district.

Yes. Big mistake. Boyd really looked ready to play in the playoffs.
#10
Any reason posted???

I think you answered your question before you asked it.

Lee Evans had the program for 6 years with the first 3 being very talented and still just being a mediocre team. He had a chance to beat Ashland when the Tomcats only won 2 games, he refused to make adjustments on his defense to cover Matt Thomas. I've heard from a teacher at Boyd County that there is alot of talent at the school but they won't play for Lee Evans. I have a co-worker who just told me his nephew was one of them and now plans to play again since they're getting a new coach. I doubt Boyd County will look very hard or get the best coach available, but I truly believe they will become competitive once again.

I truly hope so I know everyone on both sides of the rivalry would love to see that.

I've heard several rumors about the whole situation there but not anything solid, or even that I feel worthy of repeating at this time. I do wish Lee wel and hope he does better with his future endevors. I believe he is a very good skills coach, but I don't think head coach is his calling.

Hate to hear this. I thought Boyd improved this season.

Not saying a change wasn't in order but I doubt this one kid or any others will make that big of a difference. Kids dont play because they like the coach they play because of their love of the game. That is the problem with our society today, this everyone gets a trophy analogy is a problem. Boyd if they want to get better need a total program. I watch the middle school this year and they were running the single wing, I know the high school does not run that. I want to see the county rise agian but it is going to take time and some serious changes to the whole program and support from the administration to get good assistants and give the new coach full control of the program from youth to 12 th grade

Look for him at another local team this coming year as an asst.coach. From what I have been hearing.
#18
He ought to come to RC and bring that brute of a kid with him

who all has applied for this job?

I've also heard he has something lined up and his son is a part of it, something about a program that wants to go to a spread offense. I hate to see Lance leave, he's far more talented than what anyone got to see at Boyd County.

Isn't this the something you hear every time Boyd County is looking for a new coach? I have seen them play several times over the last few years and they simply lack players. I would venture to say they didn't have 1player this year that would have started for Ashland or Johnson Central, and no more than a few who would have started for Rowan County.

Did they lose games they could have won? Maybe. Could they have been competitive with JC and Ashland? NO WAY.
#23
We could sure use him at Greenup! I think he is a good coach and everyone knows we need all the help we can get.
#24
Maybe they will hire someone in there JFL so they can run the single wing. It's no wonder they can't build a high school team there varsity runs the spread and there feeder system runs a gimmick offense just to win JFL and Junior high games. Whoever comes in has got to take over that JFL system and make sure the Jr. high runs the same sort of offense that the varsity runs.
#25
Exactly what I said they need a program k-12, the joke is the great JFL coaches thinking they know more than the high school coaches and the shame is they don't do what the high school does for some odd reason, wake up County people you just let a great role model and person go to please people who don't know anything about football. I wish Lee the best and hope him and his son can find a place to appreciate his talents.
#26
I thought it was absolutely comical to watch a jr. high team run the single wing. now next year they will have to learn to play in an offense that they should already be familiar with but, the won't because they've been running a gimmick offense for 2 years instead of learning what the varsity does.

It's usually the guy who never played anything or never got significant minutes that goes all in to win little league games rather than develop players. I see it with all sports.

I hope he has some maroon in his wardrobe.

Boyd County drastically needs a new AD . The old washed up trainer needs to go!!!!!!!

If you think it's a gimmick offense, go and check out Clovis East high school in California. They're one of the winningest programs in the last decade.( not to mention they run that same gimmick offense)
