I think someone lauged at me earlier when I said Maynard was one of the top players in the region. To them I say shake off the ignorance and smile because tomorrow is a new day and maybe you can say something smart. Great win Pirates and Coach Casey. How did the other games turn out?:Geek:
#4
Maynard was just 4 points short of the school record
#5

He finished with 46 points and was on fire!

Excellent ballgame......Belfry just managed to stay hot longer. I really think these two teams are about as even matched as they come. Both have an excellent shot at a Regional Title.

And yes, Matt Maynard is one of the top players in the region. My top 5 would be Maynard, Landon Slone, Brad Lowe, Jamie McCarty, and Brandon May in no particular order.
#9
congrats to belfry and maynard.
#10
congrats belfry the matchup between Maynard and Lowe will be a site to see...
#11
i agree...congrats Belfry

Good game for Belfry, Maynard was on farr. Does anyone know what Belfry shot from the field? It had to be over 70%.
#13
WOW..i cant believe that...Maynard is going to be a real force this year..Congrats Pirates

This was a great game to watch as a basketball fan. As a Sheldon Clark fan it was good to watch for the first half. Both teams came out and shot well early, but Belfry maintained the great shooting where as SC cooled down. Maynard is the best athlete in the region hands down. Nobody on SC's team had the quickness to stay in front of him and he and Case shot them out of the zone. I am beging to think Maynard has somthing against SC. The last two times I have left Belfry I have left saying "WOW. Maynard is a STUD!!". Is one of the more impressive 15th region performances I have seen in the past few years. Maybe not the best but worth consideration. IMO Belfry is one big man away from being the best team in the region no questions asked. If they had a 6'4 kid that boarded really hard I don't think anyone in the 15th could beat them. I'm sure they don't normally shoot that well, or at least for everyone elses sake I hope they don't. Congrads to Pond Creek Nation again. SC is looking better with each game and will make some noise when it matters.

Congrats Belfry.. and Congrats to Maynard and May

Height hurts a lot of teams in our region, and Belfry is no exception. They do need a consistent low-post scoring threat, because I don't think anyone in their right mind expects the Pirates to shoot that well every night.

One thing that could make up for that against regional opponents is to take advantage of an all-around lack of height in the 15th. Maynard & Case are big guards, for our region, and Dustin May can cause mismatches with his strength. When these guys have smaller men guarding them, they can be low-post threats.

Maynard can beat ANYBODY with his speed, Case with his smart game, and May with strength. High school ball is a game of taking advantages of mismatches and one of those three will have an advantage on the man guarding them every night. If the other team is palying man-to-man of course.:big grin:

Maynard dials up Cardinals for career-high 46 points

GOODY, Ky. - Matt Maynard sent a statement - loud and clear - to those who doubt he is the best player in the 15th Region.

Belfry's senior guard gunned in a career-high 46 points to lead the Pirates to a racing 111-89 win over Sheldon Clark in the championship game of the Appalachian Wireless Mountain Schoolboy Classic at Sheldon Clark High School.

“It really did not feel like I had scored that much,” Maynard said. “When I knew I was close to 50, I wanted to hit the milestone.”

Maynard, who fouled out late in the game, added.

His 46 points was five points shy of the Belfry school record (51) set by Dr. Gary Smith in 1980.

“It would have been great to set the record, but it was even better to win,” Maynard said.

Belfry (6-3), which got 18 points by Maynard in the first quarter, cushioned its lead to nine at 46-37 late in the second quarter.

The Pirates had a 52-44 advantage at the half thanks in part to a 61 percent showing from the floor.

Great win for the Pirates! This team has something about them. They might just make a little noise in the 15th this year. Great job Maynard on an outstanding performance.
#19
Great job Belfry. I watched SC play a game or two, I still think they have a good team. I can only imagion how Belfry looks on the floor.
#20
It was a great High Scoring ball game I was impressed with Maynards ability shooting the ball hes one i beleive has a great chance go college and play more than one sport
#21
It has to be mentioned that Jamie Case and Dustin May played excellent ballgames, too. Case had 27 and I didn't see him miss very much. May had a quiet 17 points, if there is such a thing.

The Crum kid from SC played real well, too.

I found myself loving Belfry Basketball again last night...not that I didn't always love Belfry, but during the Hatfield years, it left a sour taste in my mouth.

This team will bring the fans back out because they are so much fun to watch. The passes were very exciting last night. The teamwork on the floor is there. The talent is there. The coaching staff is there. I am looking forward for this basketball season.

I loved the statement that Coach Casey made in the paper and gave credit to his staff for the idea of going to the 2-3 zone against ER. That shows a great coach. Most want to take all the credit for the wins, but he listened to his staff and got the win.

Way to go Pirates!!!

sounds like and exciting game to watch....

It doesn't surprise me Casey is a great guy and a pretty darn good coach as well.

[QUOTE]Matt Maynard is a heck of an athlete but I didn't realize he was that good in basketball.

Matt Maynard is indeed a heck of an athlete, and not only is he good in basketball he is the best player in the 15th Region HANDS DOWN!!!
#28
He is not the best basketball player in the 15th region sorry to disapoint you but that is just going beyond the extreme he is top 5 but not the best you are forgetting there is Brad Lowe, Landon Slone and Jamie McCarty...Yes Maynard had one heck of a game but it will be intresting to see if he keeps these games up...Sorry but one 48 point game does not make you the best...
#29
Pirate Pal i agree with you, hopefully this will get the fans back into the gym, we all know how low attendance has been for the past( who can remember) years

And Slones 50 pt performance is what he has been living off of since it happened. Brad Lowe is the best offensive player in the region with Maynard a close second.

Slone is wayyyyy overrated, he is about 9th or 10th maybe.
