Player to watch: French expects 5-7 senior guard Ortasia Butler to be a leader after averaging nearly three steals last season. âHer offense needs some work, but sheâs going to stop people on the defensive end,â French said.
Other top players: G Jasmine Moore (5-5, Jr.); F Tianna Andrews (5-9, So.); Derrickecia Cooper (5-10, Jr.); Jeneâ Cunningham (5-8, Jr.); Reyâchelle Adams (5-6, Jr.).
Outlook: French, a 1991 Pleasure Ridge Park graduate who coached Paris the past two seasons, replaces LaTonya Smith. The Golden Eagles took a big hit when junior Tearra Banks transferred to Ballard. She was a first-team All-Sixth Region pick last season after averaging 23 points. French said several of his players have little to no basketball experience. He expects Butler and Andrews to be the leaders.
