wow what a game. This was an instant classic game in Northern Kentucky football. Kyle Fuller after missing two field goals and an extra point in the course of the game hit the game winning field goal with 10 seconds left on the clock. Both teams played an incredible 4 quarters of football with out backing down one inch. And yes this was the biggest win in Holy Cross history (until next week :Thumbs

Congratulations Holy Cross. Great win on the road.

YEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!! HOLY CROSS!!!!!
awesome game, easily an instant classic. Holy Cross missed 2 field goals, an extra point, came up short on a drive where they were a yard away from scoring. But HC never gave in to the pressure and the defense was awesome. NewCath had trouble running the ball, but man Hightchew made things happen like he always did.
Good job Crossbacks!!! now we get the bunnies

Good job Injuns. NCC folded under pressure. They didn't have a quality win all season. I'm happy for Koz.

Congrats Holy Cross on a montmental win
Their defense was on fire and played with great intensity.
Kyle and company were hard to stop.
I have my doubts that anyone else can shut them down if they play like that.
Thanks to the 'Breds for a great season.
I predicted that this game would decide state so we will see.

Congrats to the NCC seniors. They were a solid class for all 4 years. They have some good individuals in that class.

Bruce Kozerski insisted revenge wouldnât be a factor.
Whether it was or wasnât, Holy Cross is headed to state.
Facing off for the second time in less than a month, Holy Cross defeated Newport Central Catholic 24-21 in the Kentucky 2A football regional final at Newport Stadium Friday night to advance to the state semifinals. With the win, Holy Cross avenged its 31-14 loss to the Thoroughbreds on Oct. 28 during the regular season.
âI donât think itâs a factor at all,â Holy Cross coach Bruce Kozerski said of the revenge factor. âOther than the fact that we should have played better, nothing from that first game matters.â
Holy Cross dominated much of the first half Friday night â the Indians held an 11-2 advantage in first downs, a 36-16 advantage in plays and a 162-0 advantage in passing yards â but led just 13-7 at the break.
Senior quarterback Kyle Fuller accounted for all three Indians touchdowns, including a 60-yard screen pass to Jalen Beal and a 7-yard scamper, both in the first quarter.
âYou learn something new every game,â Kozerski said. âIn the NewCath game (during the regular season), Kyle was a little tentative in some spots and probably needed to take the ball and do something with it. He had a very good game that day, but he learned in big games like that he just needs to react â and since then, he has. Heâs thrown the ball when he needed to, he took it and ran when he needed to, and heâs made better decisions every ball game.â
But it was Fullerâs foot that proved the difference. He drilled a 32-yard field goal with ten seconds left to give his team the win.
The Indians entered the regional final having posted three straight shutouts â outscoring the opposition 154-0 in the process â and had allowed minus-8 rushing yards through two playoff games.
âWeâve gotten a lot better defensively; thereâs no doubt about it,â Kozerksi said. âWeâve gotten a lot more physical, a lot more aggressive. We play the run all the way to the quarterback. Our athletes play best when weâre doing that.â
NewCath entered the game having outscored its two playoff opponents, Gallatin County and Lloyd Memorial, by a combined 105-0. The Thoroughbreds, however, allowed too many big plays in the regional final.
âIf you donât play every play,â NewCath head coach Eddie Eviston said, âit can bite you.â
The Indians won despite several miscues on special teams â they missed two field goals and saw a PAT blocked â but their defense, as it has been for the past month, was the difference. NewCath had just 75 yards at halftime and didnât complete a pass until 2:28 remained in the third quarter. Quarterback Brady Hightchew had several big gains on quarterback keepers in the second half, but it wasnât enough.
Fuller, meanwhile, hooked up with Beal and senior Eric Walker early and often. That wideout duo combined for more than 150 yards.
Holy Cross (10-3) advances to the state semifinals to host Somerset/Lexington Christian on Nov. 25. If victorious, Holy Cross advances to the state final Dec. 2.

Great football game. Holy Cross changed up the offensive plan and played ball control. Never thought it would happen. In the first meeting NCC gave the O line fits. Flip that for tonight, HC O line ruled all noght long. HC defense, I dont even want to start, on fire. Like pitching a shutout. Great job by the coaches getting the boys ready, and great job by the player playing with fire all night long.

Definitely happier with the Highlands win. Kind of sad for a few NCC Senior players. I just want NCC to play a halfway decent schedule and quit cancelling games. When they do that, I'll give them some respect. Until then, may as well kick em while they're down. Just think Mustang fans, pretty soon you'll be beating them too. I don't think NCC will ever win another championship. Even in the 6-Class system. I predict NCC football to head in a downward spiral. I really like this coach. The only thing that can save them is to make some calls, and put some respectable teams on the schedule. Otherwise, NCC will keep getting less and less decent athletes.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy NCC lost! Just enjoying another thrashing of Covcath more. Neither ever wins another football title. Get the roundballs out boys.

the coaches fo NCC need to apologize to the seniors on this team. I won't blame the whole game on the coaches, but the definiely got out coached. Franzen the whole game was a foot taller then the corner, no quick slants behind the LB's, HC had 8-9 in th box and we are trying to block with 6 guys, Def corners off recievers 5-10 yards even when they have safety help deep. Im not a great or even average coach, but the coaches for NCC played not to lose on Def and HC came at you playing 1 on 1 saying we have nothing to lose. I don't want to make it all about the coaches, so I will say this Fuller played great and walker had a huge catch and run after to give HC a chance to win. Lastly I felt with all the pressure NCC kids look off not for sure who to block and even if the had enough guys to block. Love Coach Evisten, but he better change something next year Offencive because most teams up here know what he is running and how to defend it now. The big question for me will Evisten change his Offence according to his players next year or will it stay the same. Good luck HC I felt whom ever won this game woud win state and I still feel that way.

It's hard to point the finger at Coach Eviston. He took the program to a higher level than the former Coach had them playing. I think he does a great job. I appreciated Hightchew's abilities and they had some other good Sr's. However, this just wasn't a very talented team.

I knew a few weeks ago that HC was capable of this kind of game, but when the Breds dominated that game, I was doubtful that Indians could win this game. I was very surprised and very happy to see them win this game and am very happy for our HC supports this week. I truly believe you have the team to win State.
I have had the privilege to coach Kyle Fuller, and a finer young man there is not! I am very happy for this young man and will be pulling him for the next two weeks to continue leading this team to a state title.

It was talented to 2A. This loss was by not means a disappointment. The winner of this game was going to be the odds on favorite to win the state title and by downgrading NCC as not a talented team taints negatively what the Indians accomplished. No, NCC was a very talented team and had one of the most dynamic players in NKY with Brady Hightchew. The Indians found a way to beat the team who was headed to their 5th state finals in the last 6 years.
