Williamsburg 38 Harlan 6
#1
Final
#2
Congrats Williamsburg
#3
Congratulations Williamsburg!

Congrats to a good football team tonight and it sure wasn't Harlan. Williamsburg came out tough from the gitgo. Harlan just didn't respond. There's no excuses they just played with out any heart or desire to win. The same thing happened to this group last year at Pikeville and I fear they may not be able to be winners. Maybe as this embarrassing loss sinks in they will learn a little something about themselves and decide they want to be more. If not,I don't see anything changing next year. Good luck to the Yellowjackets next week against Hazard.

Congrads Williamsburg. Harlan apparently never left harlan county night in this game.
#6
Williamsburg wins # 9 of the season and gets to play Hazard next week

Just wanted to say that I told everyone that this was not the same Williamsburg team that lost to Harlan earlier in the year. Someone stated that QB play wouldn't make that much difference in the game, not sure that was the best statement to make. Think the play of Sizemore and his 5 tds was exceptional tonight and made a huge difference from the first game. Williamsburg's run defense was stout and the coaches made a great change moving #25 Patrik to DE in the game to pressure Harlan's QB along with the dline and #27 who was held on almost every play. They kept constant pressure on Harlan's QB all night and beat him up pretty bad. Williamsburg also showed some zone coverage on defense and it totally confused the Harlan offense. That is the first time I can remember them playing that coverage al year. Williamsburg Offensive line played great and all the receivers made great catches. Total team win for the Jackets who most certainly gained over 200 yards of offense tonight.

Congrats to Harlan on a good season Bianchi is an outstanding player and I thought Harlan did not get him the ball enough. Saragas is a tough kid who will be solid again next season. Hope the kid that got a concussion early in the game is ok.

Tough game for the Jackets next week as they host the Bulldogs of Hazard, They will have to contain the running game of the dogs and limit the speed and big plays. I am very excited for the game.

Shoutout to the Jackets on the victory.

They sure did get over 200 YD's. They had a great game plan. But more than that, they came out and smacked Harlan in the mouth and the Dragons did not respond. They laid down and it's the same thing they did last year in the second round. The future isn't looking as bright for Harlan as some have thought. A good football team never gives up and a team that does can never be a good team. Mediocre at best. Congrats to the Jackets again.
#10
Told ya the Jackets would would get there revenge.
One more game and my prediction of them winning region wont be too far fetched will it?
Granted that means a win over Hazard.
#11
^ Hazard will be a very hard task indeed for Williamsburg.

I definitely think Hazard will come away with the win but i had always felt that Williamsburg was better than Harlan even after the loss to Harlan earlier in the year.
If all the things fall into place right for Wburg, they could pull the upset.

Either way i hope its a good game.

Jughead thank you for the kind thoughts regarding the players we had two that left the game in the 1st quarter with concussions, one of which is mine, and this was his second in the last few games. Both kids seem to be ok but when it comes to a head injury you error toward caution every time. Congrats to the Williamsburg team and coaching staff on a well played and schemed game plan, you earned the right to host the Regional Finals so good luck against the Bulldogs. I can't disagree more that the Dragons laid down tonight, with the number of kids that missed all or most of the game due to various reasons, I thought the kids that had the mental toughness to get to be on the field this week played hard and did not Lay Down. Now I am not taking away from the Jackets in any way, but when a Class A team looses 8 players of which all 8 would have started somewhere on this team, and not realize that there in lies the biggest part of why this team didn't preform as many of us had hoped that they would, you really don't understand team sports at all. Great job tonight Jackets and again good luck in the future.

Dragonsdad, I don't think you saw the same game I did. The Harlan team didn't give up, and they too got over 200 yards, 250 in fact. Harsh words about the future based on a great season and great effort by a team that battled injuries and even kids who were on the sidelines due to lack of effort in the classroom. The only teams we lost to were District winners, 2A and 3A...not too shabby in my book. I for one can't wait until next year. Williamsburg played a great game and all things were firing for them. No disrespect to their victory.

In my opinion, the schedule was what got the dragons in the end. A tough schedule can make you better but it can also be the end for ya too. Didn't Harlan beat them pretty good at the first of the year?

I was a little upset over the loss last night and went a little overboard with my remarks and I appologize for that. I,too,am looking forward to next year. I will say that there were times this season when we had no offense at all and that needs to be addressed by the time next season gets here. Most of that will be fixed on the line I think. Last night we had no blocking. Time after time our QB was pressured and sacked. More than against Hazard,Middlesboro,Leslie Co. or Pikeville or any other team for that matter. We need consistency from our linemen game in and game out. Again,I appologize for the things I said last night. I was wrong to do that. I wanted them to win and it didn't happen. I believe we have a team that could win the region next year if they play hard.

So sorry to hear your son was injured. It's ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry. My son plays and he has had a concussion before, so, I can relate. I never want to see a kid hurt whether on our team or the opposing team. Thank you for the nice words, hope all your kids are ok and good luck next year.

Congrats to Williamsburg on their win. I figured Harlan would've handled them, but it wasn't in the cards.

Just think we let Sizemore get away. A true talent! Thanks Coach Whitaker. Good luck against Hazard!

Sportsfan, nobodies excluding anyone for a lack of effort and as far as my remarks last night,I take some of the things I said back last night. But if you were happy about the effort last night that's you. I'm not gonna make excuses. Several player's played their hearts out and some didn't. That remark was shared by the coach at halftime last night. He said he had only been in this spot a couple times at Harlan. I agree with him and I think we should have won with the team we took down there last night. We certainly should not have gotten beat 38-6. Williamsburg has got a good team and maybe they should have won,but not like that. I know we had a couple of our better player's hurt last night and also a couple out but we should have been able to at least keep it respectable and I don;t consider 38-6 respectable.I also say as far as next season goes, there are some player's returning,my son included, that need to do some soul searching and decide if they want to be winner's or not. If nobody agree's with what I just said then maybe we should be happy with 6-5. That makes next year tuff because from what I've heard we play the same schedule except for the addition of Lex.Christian. Don't get me wrong cause I think we have a team that could go undefeated and make it to at least the semi's next year. Maybe I'm asking too much of them.

Just to think we let Sizemore get away LOL.
He's back in the same county where he started it all, just a different school.

Corbin did not win a District Championship

I think most Harlan fans were looking at 2012 as the Dragons' best chance to make a run at a state title, but now the question is how do you make up 32 points between now and next year when Williamsburg has the younger team.
The skilled guys are pretty solid, but Harlan will have to find/build a line to make a run at a regional championship.

Did you not think Harlan could win with the team we had,or at least keep it close, before the game started?
I know DD and he played at Harlan on some good teams and I would think he knows a little something about how a groupof kids should or could play together as a team. Excuses can't be made for this loss. The Dragons had all but one of their original linemen playing in that game. The same line that beat Middleboro and played 2A leslie co down to the wire.

We could have and should have beat Leslie co,Pikeville and Corbin. To say that with the losses we had was not to shabby is excepting and expecting less than the best this group of kids has to offer. We should push them to play up to their ability.
I don't think DD is giving anybody a free pass here, including his own son.

I think this bunch of boys is way better than we give them credit for and we should expect their best. Quit bickering between yourselves and do the best you can to help this team become what we all know they can become. No more excuses!!! It's gonna take all working together, coaches, parents and players to get this team to a regional championship at least.

^Thanks L#1. I was beginning to believe I was the only one who saw it for what it was. The team we have can achieve so many things and yes a regional championship or even a trip to Bowlinggreen could still be in the picture for next season. The coaches said at the beginning of this season that they thought this years team could give Hazard a good run but it didn't work out because of injuries and that's ok. But I believe some of the guy's went down to Williamsburg thinking the season was over before we even got there. We could have won with the team we took to Williamsburg. I'll always believe that. All that's over now and it's time to focus on next season. We gotta get these guy's in the weight room and work harder than ever before if we want to keep the dream alive. Sorry if I caused a ruckus but I love Harlan football with everything in me and I want to see it succeed. In 1982 we had a real good team that went 10-1 and I believe this bunch of guys is more athletically inclined than we were then and have the chance to achieve lots more than we did back then.

I agree they could achieve more because of the way the playoffs are set up and the fact you had a great Cumberland team in your district. I don't think this group is as talented though. The 82 group played on great teams in 79, 80 and 81 (eight or nine wins, I think). They could put it all together next year and win a regional, but getting past Williamsburg and Hazard will require a big step up, especially physically.

If anything the '82 team had more physical lineman. This team has more talented skilled players. If we can get a good line together we could be just as good I think. The only skill player we can't match is Duncan Jacobs, but this team has on the whole more skilled players. This team isn't that far away from a good line. We only lose two and surely we can fill those places. I think the key is to get the linemen we have more mentally and physically tough. I think we had alot of minor injuries that people sat out for that should not have been. I also know me saying that is gonna get some people riled up but it is true. Me and some of the old Dragon's were talking about it a few weeks back and we all came to that conclusion. My senior year I played with a broken arm for which I had a rubber cast made for games and against Lynn camp that year I had several injuries for which I could have stayed out and healed but I played through it and never missed a game. The other old guy's said that the kid's today just aren't as tough. I don't believe that. I think They just need to learn you can play through it. Only trouble is I don't know how you teach that.

Lion 1 even if Hazard beats us by a hundred the bottom line is you saw what the Jackets were made of on Friday. And 8 of them are freshmen with just 2 seniors playing in non skilled positions. The thing that was obvious is your boys quit after the score was 18-0 and I was not expecting them to do that. And Im pretty sure the core group of dragons was there. We dominated Campbellsville in the first half and being young almost cost us when they came out in the second half and started the trash talking it took us out of our game and the kids learned alot from that. And the Berea game who knows what happened we were just flat and there was alot of emotion involved with that game it being the Pink Jersey game and all but fact is no one expected us to be where we are and that makes it easy to play when you are the underdog you can relax and just play ball.

Congrats Williamsburg.
