I agree mommy's and daddy's are not coaches. And should not try to be. That should be left up to the coaches on the field. Myself I am a coal miner not a coach. I know how to mine coal not coach football. It makes me sick listening to other coal mining dads in the stands trying to coach from up there. Every time something goes wrong the coach is blamed, and he should of done this or that. Then when something works the kids get all the praise, not the coach. Come on guys you are not a coach! You are living in a dream world. However, mommy's and daddys should be coaches off the field and support their kids as well as the coachs. But, they should also make sure that their kids are not mistreated by coaches. There is a difference between demanding discipline and blatantly cussing a kid and their family members. This kind of action will destroy a program quicker than anything. I am not saying that coaches should not shout at kids, however, there is a right way and wrong way to do this. I am willing to bet that kids will perform better for a coach that is respected rather than one that is despised.

Well for any school in KY just tell them you played, and your hired. To coach at Bell,Boyle, and the few high powered schools in KY you need to know what it is like to win, and make the kids know it. IMO that is what it takes to coach in KY

warmachine Wrote:Well Dragonsdad, not real sure with whats going on up at LCC. You would think they woudl be a little better since they have the best football facilities in Eastern Kentucky besides Belfry's. Some kids need to be called MF'ers sometimes. Some kids dont need to be. You have your rough kids that are undisciplined and they need reemed out sometimes so they know who the boss is. Other kids that work their hindends off and give it all they got dont need to be called MF'ers. Some kids dont have a Daddy like you Dragonsdad. Some dont even have a Daddy. I watched South Laurel play PCC the other night and a couple big mouth dads were hollaring at South Laurels coach saying do this do that from the crowd. I mean complete idiots. If I had to deal with fools like that, someone would be getting threw out of the bleachers on their head. A parent doesnt need to act that way. Pure stupid. I think if a parent wants to coach, he should make that known. Good assistants are hard to find. Most coaches love having free help.no they don't. This should never be accepted or tolerated at any level or sport

It is official, you can now add Paintsville High to the list of needing a new coach. Will the administration do the right thing and post this position or will they hire within?

Not knocking your comment or the Jackson County program at all. I'd love nothing more than to see something develop there, but the bolded part is everywhere. It seems like every year, every place I go, you hear people (mostly the parents of the middle schoolers) say things along the lines of "Just wait until the middle school gets to be junior or seniors."
What are your thoughts?

Sure connections, but connections are part of getting jobs in any profession. Like I've told people before, Connections might get you the job, but your performance determines whether you keep it or not.

What about Lynn Camp? They were 0-10 this year. I thought that may be bad enough to push Mitchell out. I think it is probably past time for him to leave.

Kind of hard to battle with Corbin for players isnt it Livingthedream? Lynn Camp is sort of like the old MC Napier of Perry County. Most of the best players that lived in the county would go to HAZARD. Hazard put more money in their program and had better facilities, sort of still like that today. Perry better get a stadium soon or someone will be offering Mr. Haddix and higher paying job soon with better facilities and more assistant coaches.

Maybe I'm a cup-half-full kind of guy, but I think Lynn Camp is in a perfect spot. They may not get the "studs" in the county, but they get all of the Knox Central/Corbin castaways, and I think they have the tools to compete in Class A.
I've watched Harlan Ind be very successful over the years with the kids who were spurned/turned off by the county schools. I just think morale is low at Lynn Camp, and a change should take place, soon.

Jackson County had that 8th grade class from last year that was so good. They are some good football players in that bunch. They started 6 of those freshmen on defense. On offense they played about 3 or 4 in some positions at times. These guys will be something by the time they are juniors and seniors if they hire the right guy.

Have they posted or announced the job yet? I haven't seen it anywhere besides speculation on this board.

in the last 3 years under coach carter 1 win and 30 losses

You must win after time, bottom line. If after 4 years you are winless are 1-9 year in and out then it's time to go a different direction. If you are satisfied with 0-10 or 1-9 every year then why bother to even have a football program. Coaching is a job, if the job isn't getting done as an admin. you have to find someone who can get the job done, bottom line. A coach deserves 4 years imo. 4 years to install his system, his philosophies and to establish. If after 4 years it's still 0-10 or a 1-9 level, time to move on to another candidate.

I have just heard from someone who told me a board member said Coach Whitaker was given another two year contract. So Letcher Central is not open.

He has resigned for sure and they will post it after tomorrow. I hope for some good coaches to apply after Coach Carters departure. The record may not show the progress but he did a great job with all other facets of the game and with those boys. So maybe putting out there a PR but any of you coaches out there that will be looking for a job, please apply to JC. LOL

Coaching is on a year to year basis. Multi-year contracts are illegal for Coaches in the State of Kentucky.

Might as well call it two years, they won't get rid of him.

Can not confirm, but a credible source said Coach Glaser has been seriously thinking about retirement for a couple years. We'll probably hear more after the game this week.

I hope so bad that we get a new facility. The old one has served well for a long time (2012 will make 60 years) and for at least 30 of those years it was the football and baseball field. The field has lost its crown, so it doesn't drain, and everyone seen the results. There's not much more you can do besides rip it all up and re-grade and re-seed it, but there's a lot of money involved in that too, so why not just build a whole new facility? Our Press box, restrooms and seating capacity could all use some major overhauls as well.
As far as Lynn Camp goes, they are just in a rough patch at this time I believe. I seem to remember Lynn Camp making a run to the 1A state semi's in 2003 and fielding some very good teams in the early and mid 2000's.
