Just from what I've heard Caverna is open. LaRue will possibly be open. John Hardin will possibly be open too. Both coaches are retiring from coaching. Anyone else?

Maybe Clay Co.

If I was a betting man I would say Dixie.

Jackson Co is. Coach resigned after fridays loss

It is way to early to speculate on the future of these men, who have families to support and a lot of pride in what they are trying to get done at struggling schools. A positive question? What young (or old) coaches should a school that finds itself looking for a coach be trying to hire?

Here's the story for it. Resigned for personal reasons and certain circumstances.
Caverna could have 3 different head coaches in 3 years

What is the deal at Letcher Central? Does Mike Whitaker have horns and a tail, or is this just a few disgruntled people who have not gotten their way who keep crucifying the man?

LCC Record past three seasons
Hillard Howard 2009 10-3
Mike Whitaker 2010 3-7
Mike Whitaker 2011 4-7
Losing tends to make people disgruntled. Winning tends to keep the naysayers quiet!

You should point out all the facts. Where you disgruntled in Hillard's 1st 2 years '05 record 4-6, '06 record 4-6. If you would have let Hillard go would you have had the following 3 seasons combined record 31-8. Who knows.
You should also point out the fact that the year Hillard left he had 18 seniors graduating & only 8 Jrs returning. That alone left the well a little dry for Mike wouldnt you say? He did improve from his 1st year to his 2nd & not to mention was missing a very key player for some time this year.
IMO you should give the man a chance.

Why would Betsy Layne be looking for a new coach when they just enjoyed the 2 winningest seasons in Bobcat Football history?

Why should we give Mike Whitaker a chance? He never gave our boys a chance. He doesn't care about them. When a coach yanks boys around by the face mask and yells the they are Mother F#**in Pieces of CR** and tells them they are no count just like their Daddies it's hard to think he is much of a coach or a human being. Anna Craft paid him and his wife BIG money to make a quaterback that would make everyone take notice of LCC. That was his job and that backfired on him too. He is a joke and will be the downfall of the football program if he stays.

Well if that was his only job then he done it well. Now you should pay him BIG money to win games & not call little johnny names. After all he already did what YOU said he was paid to do. Sounds to me like you just need to change the job description.
11-08-2011, 08:29 PM
Yep! Done his job....to the downfall of the rest of the boys. Quarterback is a talented and all around great kid. Any coach could have taken him and the team last year and this year and won more than 3 and 4 games all season. They lost when they had the quarterback and won a few when they had the quarterback. The coach is a joke.

I guess you should also point out that this was when LCC was playing in the same district as Bell Co. and Rockcastle. This was a much more difficult district than what LCC has competed in the last few years. I have no dog in this fight. I just know that Hillard expected LCC to be facing Highlands to see who moves on in the playoffs instead of going 3 -7 and watching the playoffs at home.

I've known Mike for a long time and during that time I have never heard him say or act the way some people on here describe him. That's absolutely ridiculous to post things that are completely untrue. Just because someone may have said that he said it for whatever reason they made this crap up is insane. I wish I could have played for a coach that was as knowledgable and motivating as him. Secondly if you look at the non-district schedule before he got there you don't see very many heavy weights unless you consider Shelby Valley of a few years ago, Evangual Christian, and East Ridge powerhouse teams. Also when was the last time Rockcastle was dominant? Hmm the 90s went away a long time ago people. Heck by some of your reasoning no kid should ever go to Johnson central because paintsville is the place to go. It makes me sick to read this fabricated, malicious b.s. that some people post. Grow up. Just because you don't like some things about him or that your guy didn't get the job or because he isn't from Letcher county is no reason to post blatant lies. Ask any coach in the state of Kentucky what they think of him and you'll get the same answer. A great guy and a great coach. Period.

The glaring difference that I see is that Hillard took on a new program and built it up. From those first two 4-6 seasons he built a team that went 31-8 over the next three years. Whitaker has started off in much the same way. He is 7-14 during his first two years. Now we will see where the program is heading. Will it be successful the next three years? Only time will tell----I don't see great success next year. Hillard Howard was a great coach with the best people skills that I have ever witnessed. Mike Whitaker may be a great coach(I don't know him well enough to have an opinion)but he needs to start producing wins or this program will stay in turmoil.

Nothing wrong with a coach talking about someones daddy. Some daddies need to apply for the job since they know so much. Its easy to coach from the top of the bleachers only on game night. Daddies and mommies need to shut their mouths and try to improve their kids instead of expecting the coach to do it all. Whitaker isnt Jesus Christ.

Funny, rockcastle went to state title games in 2001 and 2002, plus won region in 2000 and 2005, so much for the 1990s. Just because your team underachieves, dont bring us up in the misery.

I see nothing wrong if he did say that. Its a coaching ploy to make your players mad. All coaches have em just some are more extreme than others.

I don't agree with you Warmachine. How can you build a young kids confidence by slamming his ego that way. If what has been reported is true about the coach. All you are going to get by talking about his family and calling him a sorry lazy M'er F'er is a kid who feels he has no self worth and has no confidence that he can be what he has dreamed of being. A good coach will instill pride, confidence and self worth in a young kids head. Those are the things that build champions. I'm not saying that you can't get on a kid when he can do better. You just can't tear one down the way that it's being reported. This is not the first time these kinds of things have been said on this site about this particular coach. My kids wouldn't play for a coach who said those type of things about he and his family and further more if one did say those things to my son he would have me to deal with and I guarentee it wouldn't be a good experience for any involved. As far as the comment that this coach isn't Jesus Christ,it sounds more to me like he is closer to the devil. Maybe he needs a little bit of Jesus in his life. I guarantee he would be a blessed man and his team would be better off for it.

Well Dragonsdad, not real sure with whats going on up at LCC. You would think they woudl be a little better since they have the best football facilities in Eastern Kentucky besides Belfry's. Some kids need to be called MF'ers sometimes. Some kids dont need to be. You have your rough kids that are undisciplined and they need reemed out sometimes so they know who the boss is. Other kids that work their hindends off and give it all they got dont need to be called MF'ers. Some kids dont have a Daddy like you Dragonsdad. Some dont even have a Daddy. I watched South Laurel play PCC the other night and a couple big mouth dads were hollaring at South Laurels coach saying do this do that from the crowd. I mean complete idiots. If I had to deal with fools like that, someone would be getting threw out of the bleachers on their head. A parent doesnt need to act that way. Pure stupid. I think if a parent wants to coach, he should make that known. Good assistants are hard to find. Most coaches love having free help.
