Mercer Co @ Russell Co 11/4 ~ Playoffs 1st Round 4A
#1
The Lakers will be hosting their 1st playoff game in over a decade. Mercer caps off a roller coaster regular season with a loss to Dunbar, while Russell Co comes in after pitching its 4th defensive shutout of the season.

Who will be the play makers in this game?
Who wins? Why?

I really expect the Lakers to win this one going away. Mercer's wins are against the fourth and fifth place teams in their district, the other two teams that they beat only had one win a piece. Last night they lost to a previously winless Dunbar team. I expect the Lakers to come out and serve notice that they are going to be a player in 4A Championship Tournament!

I agree with what you're saying PV71, but Mercer is one of those teams that have shown signs of being much better than their record indicates. The Lakers need not look ahead on this one. I'm hoping Coach Sharp has these boys focused on the fact that every week is now a 1-game season. Win or go home.....it doesn't matter who's next if you don't get the W now.

Russell County will very likely win this one easily based on the regular season performances.

Mercer County will be dealing with things far more difficult than how they matchup with the Lakers.

Last night a 17 year old cheerleader, daughter of the Sheriff, was killed in an automobile accident hours before kickoff with Dunbar.

My guess is that it will be tough to focus on just football for them this week.

Adair Co was faced with a similar situation last night having lost a fellow senior student in an automobile accident this past week. The game last night was Senior Night for the Indians. Such a tragedy, there could be no greater pain than to loose a child.

Thoughts and prayers to this young ladies family and friends.

No question Russell should be the favorite and have the homefield advantage, BUT this game could be closer than records would indicate. I Think Coach Rains has improved Mercer from the begainning of the season and the common oppanent both teams have is Marion Co. and both beat the Knights 21 points. With that being said I would still think Russell should win and the crowd will be pumped for the first home playoff game in a while over Russell Co.

Actually, Russell Co beat Marion by 27 (48-21), but I get what your saying. I'm not sure if Mercer has improved or if they play a good game and then a bad one. They seem to have the ability to play, but don't always show up. I give Russell Co the advantage either way, but a few mistakes by the Lakers could make this game interesting to say the least.
