and for thinking coaches wouldnt let kids start, based on who they are or how good of friends they are with the coaches, well u r just crazy lol Harlan ind. is all about who you are and how much money you have, and kids do get treated different on the football team there, based upon who ur parents are and if youre a suck up to the coach.

I have been reading this website for two years. I have read posts that I wanted to reply to, but none enough that I would actually sign up in order to do so. This one...couldn't let it go. This entire thread regarding Ryan and Harlan Independent is malicious and beyond ridiculous. Ryan is a valued member of the team and school. The coaches and many people went to see Demarcus because he was carted off the field in an AMBULANCE. There have unfortunately been many injured players on the Harlan roster this season. I dare say that Demarcus was the only one that the coaches and parents went to the hospital with. Not because they don't care, but because people try to respect people's privacy and assume that people will care enough to share information with the staff. As for kids at Harlan being all about money and who you know...did you know that the student population at Harlan has a higher percentage of kids who qualify for reduced and free lunch than most county schools? Did you know that the poverty level is higher for many of the families whose children attend HISD than many of the county schools? I assume not, or you wouldn't be so carelessly throwing statements around attacking people who you obviously know little to nothing about.
As for recruiting...GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!
I am for all kids of Harlan County. I want them all to succeed so that they hopefully can grow to have more open minds than the generations before them. Red and Black/ Green and White...who really cares??? One team wins, we all win. This is a personal attack against people's character and treatment of children and athletes. Honestly, wouldn't you be better served to actually go speak to the coaches about the issue? By the way...back to the matter at hand....Harlan by 2 TDS, and I am sure Ryan will be just as happy as the rest of the team to celebrate the victory.

Wow there Dabest you pick the Dragons by two TDs against a team that they have very little success over the years? After reading your version of how things work over at Joe Gilley Sports complex, I find your viewpoints somewhat confusing, when you say that nothing matters when it comes to talent or how a player produces on the field, yet only who the player is, and then you speak of kids being mishandled by the coaching staff, but you predict a two touchdown win over the Corbin Redhounds. With all of the injuries that have been indured by the Dragons it's easy to not mention all of the players when describing what goes on each week. I for one think that the coaches are doing a very good job as they always do.

Corbin 28-13.

ooooooookay. well i still live in harlan, and even though i dont agree with how they run things over there, i still like to see them win. so yea, they are getting all of their players back this friday except ryan i do believe and i choose them by two TD's. my opinion, sorry.
so for harlan being a school where money is favored and who your parents are, yea every school has a little of that but i feel that its worse at harlan ind. once again, my opinion, thanks for that facts, but i still feel that their are a set few who think theyre better than the rest over there.

Sportsfan12, recruiting? i never said anything about recruiting.

Wasn't just speaking to you, to the entire thread. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but facts are always helpful. Smile

So you have or have had a child in the HISD? What do you base this on? I've seen some of the least fortunate kids as starting QBs, star RBs, on and on. I've also seen many kids that are of less fortunate means challenged academically and succeeding beyond expectations. Unless you have some experience, its not an opinion, its a bias or worse, gossip.

I am going with the Dragons at home. They have some really nice skill kids who can make plays. I really like Harlan's QB this year. He could be the top QB in the mountains next year. Best of luck to Coach Donahue and the Dragons. I would like to see them pull out a win on Friday. This would be a great win for that program.

Harlan 32
Corbin- 28

To me, this game is certainly interesting. You look at Harlan, a team that has been plagued by injuries all season, but do have some nice wins under their belt and a great coach in J.B. Donahue.

Then you look at Corbin, a team that I'm assuming many in Corbin feel has underachieved slightly, but still have been a good solid Redhound football team.

I still think Harlan has been too inconsistent when you look at giving up 28 pts. to Jenkins. That's a real eye opener. And to think Jenkins was up 22-0 in that ballgame.

Harlan will play better at home but the Dragons have been way too inconsistent to pull off an upset over the likes of Corbin.

I'll take the Hounds 34-23.

The Dragons had 5 starters on defense that didn't dress for that game. 4 of them are back tonight. It has been since Leslie Co. that we have had the whole starting unit playing. The only one that isn't is Ryan Jones and that really hurts but we should be better defensively still yet with the others back. I think with the rain falling and deteriorating field conditions this will be a defensive battle. Go big Green!!!!
