What is the deal with Jerry Tipton?
#1
We all know that Tipton from the Lex Herald is a UK hating piece of crap and only writes positive things about UK to sell his dying employer, but his latest dig is getting ridiculous.

This is per KSR due to the fact I boycott the Lex Herald.

Jerry Tipton is at it again. This time, he managed to put a negative spin on Coach Cal’s basketball tip-off luncheon in Louisville. Tipton titled a blog post, “Cal Puts Draft Picks Over A National Title”, which is completely untrue. Coach Cal wants to win a national title, obviously. He said he would be disappointed if no one was drafted if that happens. Tipton also made a point to say the crowd was silent after Coach Cal said that. Of course they were! The man was giving a speech at a luncheon. The crowd was silent the whole time! They were silent during the prayer too. Does that mean the crowd doesn’t agree with what the pastor was thanking the Lord for? This guy is ridiculous. It’s a shame he is still invited to anything UK basketball related. People are going to read the Herald-Leader — well, maybe, but for the sake of this argument let’s say they do — and think Calipari was preaching draft picks over a title and received a negative reaction from the crowd. The crowd was eating mashed potatoes and listening to a speech! Write that. If Tipton wants negativity, he should write about those mashed potatoes. They were awful. The nerve on this guy.

That's my point. He doesn't put any emphasis on that. And like the KSR article said they was silent the entire time because it was a speech at a luncheon.
Tipton tries to be sensationalist and draw a negative tone to Calipari and the program. Tipton is no better than the film floating around with diarrhea.

Another good quip from ole Tipton.

He says Vandy has more talent than UK....

"Vandy returns its top seven players from a team that won 23 games (9-7 in the SEC). Coach Kevin Stallings has noted the great expectations for his team. The Commodores are equipped to take either side in the talent-versus-experience debate. Clearly, Vandy has more overall experience than Kentucky."

I mean seriously. Does anyone at the LExHerald read their own shit? He needs to be let go.

Cal says this for recruiting purposes which is obvious.
No coach would rather see a player go to the nba than for him to win a national championship. Thats absurd.
By Cal saying this many recruits will go "i wanna go there, he'll get me in the pros".
#13
Well...
this will settle it.

Ask him if he would be disappointed if they didn't win the championship and a few got drafted Smile

Until then this man is only doing what every member of the media is paid to do.
Get you to read it, talk about it, and if he's lucky...
you may even post it on a message board that ends up linking to his article that causes more people to read.
I guess he's pretty lucky Wink

Cal's production over the years hasn't done anything to disprove Tipton's theory.
He's produced draft-pick after draft-pick and not a single championship.

I'm sorry you don't agree with the man though.

We might as well burn him at the stake for such utter blasphemy.
#14
In two years he has went to the Elite Eight and Final four in that order. Yes he has produced draft picks, but you can't win in today's system without them. My complaint was that Tipton tried to make that all Cal wants to do is produce draft picks and that a championship is not that important, when actually that was far from the case of what Cal said. Tipton is a piece of shit and has been since Pitino was there. He uses half truths and misquotes to seel his articles in a dying form of news that hopefully will be shut down in the next few years.

All I'm saying is you can't hate on the man for making a living.

"Get it how ya live" lol

No one would read this if Cal would have...
A.) Won a Championship or 2
B.) Have multiple one-and-done players every year
C.) Left every school he has coached at while they were under investigation for recruiting
D.) Never made that statement at the luncheon

If I would've been at that luncheon and heard him say that I would have probably had to sit and think about that one for a minute lol

2010 NCAA champs - Duke Blue Devils

Duke players drafted in the 2010 NBA Draft - 0
UK Players drafted in the 2010 NBA Draft - 5 (4 Freshman)

It's possible to win without draft picks if you have good coaching and talented players that play as a team.
Butler has made it to the finals twice with 2 draft picks and I promise you the system made them better than they were.
Hayward and Mack probably won't pan out in the NBA.

I'm not trying to hate on Kentucky.
I love the Wildcats.
However, this "everyone is out to get us" philosophy is why people like Jerry Tipton have a job and are successful at it.
Most of us UK fans get "butt-hurt" really easy.

Duke had Singler and Smith both and both were drafted.

Butler had Heyward, got drafted, and Mack who got drafted this year.

What are you saying?

I said you can't win without draft picks and both teams you mentioned had draft picks?

^ I get where zaga is coming from. I don't think anyone would argue that the level of UK compared to other teams has been built around the philosophy that "Talent alone will overshadow all else" versus "Team and Strategy will be talent alone". UK appears to be a revolving door of talent where players come for short periods of time for the SOLE purpose to get drafted in the first round. That will always be tough to win championships against teams that have been through the trenches together and have upperclass leadership that can take the bull by the horns and lead a team in the tough games.

Dude you don't even know the team you are a fan of.

91' & 92' Duke had Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley and Lattener. All three were drafted.

2001 Duke had Boozer, Battier, Dunlevy, Jason Williams and Chris Duhon.

2010 had Singler and Smith.

4 Championships and all with players drafted.

Yes, you are correct. All were lottery picks.

Christian Lattener taken in 1992 Draft 3rd pick by Minnesota.
Bobby Hurley taken in 1993 Draft 7th pick to Sacromento.
Grant Hill taken in 1994 Draft 3rd pick by Detroit.

How many were seniors (or upperclassmen)? Should go to tell what a team is capable of if they kept their players around. UK would have won a title last year and the next two years and beyond if we kept players!

You must have draft picks to win championships! thats common sense, you have to have a some talent on a team! However, you have to have expierence to win as well! Id take a team like Vandy or UNC this season over anybody come march! Simply because they have alot of talent (which UK has too) but more important than that they have EXPIERENCE! It take a great expierenced, talented, leader! The leader Uk needed to come back was Jodie meeks 2 years ago, couisns last season or orton, and this season it was brandon knight! Knight was a phenominal kid, who was a great leader but had no expierence! SOme argue Jones is the guy, I strongly disagree, Jones is good but doesnt play smart at all and isnt a leader!

Yes you are. A retard can see that. We don't have a "everyone is out to get us" philosophy, it's just that Jerry Tipton has went way, way to far with his completely ridiculous accusations and reaches to try and make the program and coach Cal look bad. The only other media type that is comparable to him is Pat Forde. I don't see how ANYONE can hate on us, especially so called fans like yourself, for getting the best players in the country that everyone else is going after too.

We don't get butthurt, we defend our team from stupid asses that hate on us because we get top players that go pro and because Cal hasn't won a championship in his first 2 years. In two years, we've made it to the Elite 8 and Final 4. That seems pretty successful to me.

1.) Obviously not...
I stated I wasn't hating on Kentucky and I meant it.
So evidently the retarded one would be the one that sees something else.

2.) Evidently you do...
because you're lashing out at me for saying this guy is simply taking a little something and running with it in order to make money.
Even a retard could see that Smile

But then again...
I'm just a "so called fan" who hates on UK for getting the best players in the country.

I'm pretty sure me and Stardust are the only people on the planet that understand you can be a UK fan but not a Calipari fan.
I simply don't think you can "out-talent" everyone and that is EXACTLY what he tries to do. By bringing in players that leave in one year you are 100% relying on talent.
If the man starts reeling off titles I'll shut up and stand behind him like I stand behind the program....but it hasn't happened yet.
There will come a time in the tournament when UK will play a team who will focus on one of his teams weaknesses and Cal will have to coach the Cats by them.
Or maybe you just play a team that straight up gets hot and you have a close one going down the stretch.
You can't simply tell a 19 year-old kid to just take the ball and win the game.
He will have to coach them through it and make some adjustments.
Calipari has not shown that he can do that yet...

Kansas-Memphis : Kansas takes away the Memphis offense late in the game by putting the Tigers on the FT line, an area they had struggled in all season. Cal is forced to try to win the game on the defensive side of the ball. They don't make a change. Game goes into OT. Game Jayhawks.

UK-WVU : WVU takes away the dribble-drive offense by keeping the offense on the outside with a zone. UK is forced to hoist up 3s, an area they had struggled in all season. Cats miss 30 3-pointers and Cal never makes a change. Game Mountaineers.

He's gotten so far so many times you just have to think he can get over the hump sometime....
but it simply hasn't happened yet.
