Was at the game tonight and I must say the Ashland D shut down JC tonight and this one could have been worse if ashland had not fumbled the ball at the 5 yard line

Seems like all the JC fans choked on all that crow the tomcats made them eat, Seems really quite on here tonight, also looks like this game will send them to highlands a week earlier now to.

I would like to know where they serve crow in Paintsville?

This game was no surprise to most Johnson Central fans. Johnson Central has a very good young team but Ashland has an outstanding group of veterans. If Ashland plays up to their potential, they will be playing in the regional finals. IMO, they are the second best team in 4A right now, but the game with Covington Catholic should be a great one.

This is what makes some Ashland people look bad!!! I for one (and probably about 95%)never said that JC would beat Ashland, and for all reasons JC should have never been in the game with a team with that many seniors. I will give Ashland props and say they were the better team this year. I will not go in hiding for a year after talking trash like most Ashland posters for the last five years.

Well duh... Because JCC has been district champ last several yrs?? That would mean it (district champ) was in Johnson county? Hence now it's back home! With 30+ other ones. :flush: still not sure what you mean by hiding?it's been end of season for us when we've played JCC? When it's over for Ashland, I'm done for the year I don't get on here unless to check a score?? But you might find me on the basketball thread if you miss me that much!:lmao::1:

would you say their D is built on speed or size? And have you seen them go up against a top notch passing team or a balance Offense? Cov Cath has a lot of size and Highlands has speed and great passing game, so looking for how both teams would match up with Ashland.

All I know is that Ashland held JJ Jude under 80 yards rushing, something that neither Covington Catholic nor Highlands could do last season. I have been told that Ashland has very good team speed but the Tomcats must have some good size and strength to have contained both Belfry's and Johnson Central's running games this late in the season. Nobody will really know how Ashland stacks up to Highlands until they meet Covington Catholic. I don't think that the Colonels will be able to run on the Tomcats very well.

they must have played great defense to hold jude to that kind of stats. congrats

Last season Jude had a lot more supporting staff! How is Ashlands pass D, because Cov Cath has a good passing game to go along with big O line and good RB. This will not allow Ashland to crowd the box or they will be picked apart by the pass.

Ashland is very good against the outside run and against mis-direction. They move really well to the ball and their LB's collapse very well. Where the Tomcats are vulnerable is straight up the middle and on quick hitters, which is where Belfry had a good amount of success. I am also curious to see how they react to a team who can effectively pass the ball. Their secondary is fantastic in run support which really aids in the outside run defense. I wonder if that would soften with a QB who can move the pocket and force them to honor dragging WR's and TE's with the flow.
The Tomcats are legit though. I don't know if they are on the level of a Highlands, but I sure wouldn't want to face them if I were a 4A team.

The thing with ashlands pass defense is no one has had time to really throw all year cause the d line is so good. The secondary doesnt have to stay in coverage long and it allows them to be agressive and make plays. Against a team with strong pass protection they can hold up but but the front seven is what this defense is built around.

I still can't get over the outcome of this game. I'm glad I made he trip to Ashland but I would've liked to see JC to get another district title.

Apparently the JC gameplan included six field goals. From the Ashland Daily Independent:
"Johnson Central kicker Trent Davis, whose night began on a soccer field in London at 6 p.m., raced onto the field. His father flew him to the game and he attempted a 32-yard extra point that fell short.
Davis, who has a state-leading 51 goals, chose to attend the soccer game where the Golden Eagles fell 3-0 to South Laurel in the 16th Region semifinals.
Matney said not having Davis was another factor.
âObviously playing three quarters without one of the best kickers in the state was huge,â he said.":lmao:

I really can't imagine what you are trying to say here?? Or maybe you just don't understand English??? He is a major weapon with his kicking game being kickoffs which most go to the goal line or punting or field goals. It made us use a different approach in the kicking game. It was pretty amazing that a great kid chose to try and help both his teams win and that might have been the highlight of the night to watch this kid sprint onto the field and have to attempt an extra point from 32 yards out as soon as he got there.

I just wanted to say how cool it was for the JC fans to react like that when he showed up and support a kid who had to make such a difficult choice. Great job JC fans.

Yes GW was balanced, great runningback as well as great qb an recievers, an tremenodous team speed. It was a loss by 4 but a great show of what this team us capable of. An I think it will prove to be true as we play stiff competition like Cov Cath an possibly highlands. We will see.
