I am not sure what you are going for here.

Look....
I have never jumped in the JJ Jude debate. But frankly, it is really tough for ANYONE to justify him getting the amount of carries he has when Johnson Central has been DOMINATING games.
I respect the Johnson Central program. They are excellent. They give Highlands something to worry about each of the past few years. They are the pride of the moutains.
Still, guys and I hate to say this, but him getting 350 plus yards against teams who can't compete. It doesn't pass the smell test and people are right to say so. This is just common sense.
NOW, is JJ Jude awesome? YES!!!!! He has put up great numbers against his team's best competition. He is a great running back. I route for him like crazy and wish him the ultimate success. But, still what I said above is true. It just is guys.

You know me EP 90, I'm a numbers kind of guy and you peaked my curosity. The great northerners want to down our program because we stat pad by leaving players in for too many plays but want to say that their star warms up and goes home at halftime. SUPRISINGLY, Jude and Towles have each played 8 games and Jude has 193 touches and Towles has 191 touches (pass attempts and rushes). I am so mad at our program for using J.J. 2 plays more than Patrick, there is no reason for that much of a difference. Shoot, he could get hurt on either of those two plays and then what would we do.

The number of touches are irrelevant. The question is why is he running the ball with a minute left in the game with his team up 20 or 30 or 40 points. Hypothetically, he could carry the ball two times per quarter, gain 792 yards and score 48 points in a JC 56-0 blowout or get the same stats on 30 carries. It comes down to why was he playing in the final minutes in either instance.

I haven't seen ANYONE down the program (question the coaches motives, Yes) Actually nearly ALL posters respect the program a great deal.
As I said above, in either players case the number of touches is irrelevant.

Jude lack of team success will put him 3rd in the Mr. Football race IMO!!!!!!
10-19-2011, 11:26 AM
My opinion for what its worth. Its easy for all of us to sit back and be arm chair coachs. Fact is this, Matney like him or hate him is doing something right. His team year in and year out is competitive and is hard team to beat in playoffs for anyone. If he thinks that JJ need to be in the game regardless of the score or time remaining then so be it. The whole thing with this and especially the lack of respect JJ gets is because he plays for Matney. And for those comparing, who is to say if JJ was put on the same team that he would not produce the same stats or better. JC's line play early on was suspect to say the least.

Jude will get it and IMO deserves it.

I hate to say this, but if history holds, it seems that early commitment to UK or UL doesn't hurt one's chances in the Mr KY Football sweepstakes.
Historically you would be right but the last four winners did not sign or commit to UK or UL.

if i may, ... towles will win it. (mr. football) wales 2, jude 3. regardless of who breaks what record. jude is a fine back, above average, wales also. you'll see neither name on your screen on sundays though. towles has the tools and size to get there (in the right system) i'm really tired of all the talk about tainted records, too many carries, blah, blah, blah. ten years from now no one will remember jude or wales unless they break the record. who cares how many carries either of them have! a game lasts four quarters, i say RUN. run yourself into the history books. JC wont win the state championship, Jude wont be in the NFL, but the record will be his. it will be something to tell his grand kids. twenty years from now no one will remember if he carried 10 times a game or 50 times a game, but his name will be right there with the other great backs in Kentucky history. call it what you want but if i had a kid that close to the record, he'd get it. i wouldn't hold him back just to appease the critics. good luck mr jude.

This is probably one of the most thought provoking post I've seen on here. I've changed my thought process somewhat regarding Jude and maybe even Wales. I agree in that I donât think JC will win the 4A state championship this year and I doubt that Mr. Jude will play running back at a division 1 school. (I hope he does should he desire to), but what he can do is become part of KY folklore in being the all-time leading rusher in KY high school football history. That's pretty cool stuff and I say his coach should let him run until his hearts content. Anybody that doesn't like it can simply tackle him.

Here is how I feel. Towles is awesome, and as a KY fan I look forward to seeing him in the Blue an White. More KY players need to be there. Not seen Wales play so i will not comment. I am sure he is very talented and deserves any postive comments he gets.
I am tired of the JJ bashers! The State Record is yours if you break it without any qualifiers. He runs the yards he get the record. This is the same deal for everyone, so why all the crying. I do know JJ has earned every yard, usally dragging several defenders. This year he wearing the bullseye every game. Go JJ and break the record, you have earned it the old fashion way, running over people!

I seen him play in the state championship and he is a great talent. He is very quick with lateral movement and has the speed to out run defenders. I wasn't impressed with the size of him, thought he would be a little bigger but regardless put on a show. Most of his yards that I remember came off tackle and getting in to the open field. Last season I did have the chance to watch Jude run for 200+ on Boyle Co. and USC signee Lamar Dawson...most of those yards between the tackles. Both are great high school backs and I'm sure they are even better people. Best of luck to both, but as someone said, I think Towels is the Mr. Football.

You are correct...I was mistaking Bell and Boyle. He had 200+ against Bell and only 135 against Boyle, but in the game thread they did mention he was the best they had played.

I'm sorry but i don't recall him having 200 yards last year against Bell, was there and Bell's D kept JJ in check. I am pulling for him to break the record MOUNTAIN PRIDE

Wales frame will increase in a Good college weight program and he will continue to get stronger and quicker. Wales should have this record considering he will play some more playoff games than Jude. Wales is more impressive considering he's doing it in Louisville. Not taking anything away from the mountains, im Just saying, Louisville always produces incredible teams and for him to rush that much on them is just great! I'm not knocking or degrading the mountains, just supporting the Running back of one of the many Louisville schools I support.
10-20-2011, 05:34 PM
Wales and Jude will be 1 and 2 after all is said and done, whoever gets the most yard will be first. If JJ gets it then he will have it, there will be no stat that includes him being in the game when most think he shouldn't have been. Or that says he played against weak competition. If wales holds the record when the dust settles there will be no stats that say he played a tougher schedule and had 3-4 state titles. It is a record for MOST RUSHING YARDS. that is it. Why do we have to beat a dead horse. Good luck to both. Hopefully Jude gets it because he is a mountain boy.

You witnessed a good first half and two good backs! I got the stats from a previous article on the Paintsville Herald website archives. 201 was JJ's final total.

Southbound if I may you've written an excellent post . I agree with you totally in principle, however in this life we live sometimes what seems to be the impossible sometimes becomes very possible , whose to say that Johnson Central won't get hot & go on to win a state title. Who's to say jj won't get some kind of shot at some school & see a slot receiver & he becomes some Wes Welker type & goes to The Leauge . I believe if you work hard enough anything is possible. To Louisville I agree with you also & whoever said when Wales gets into a college weight program the sky is the limit. I think they play great high school football in the mountains , but just being honest outside of his district games Wales plays against the best competition in the state week in week out.

I have heard stories about these guys and would like to see how they would do in a more competitive environment.
10-21-2011, 02:50 PM
nptb17, no i haven't seen wales in person. but i'm definitely not knocking him either. he is a fine back. truth be told he will probably break the record as well. i wish him all the luck, but being from the mountains, the heart pulls for Jude. as far as comparing the two backs, i choose not to. it would be unfair and unjust to both. unless they shared the same schedule and offensive line a true comparison cannot be done. but each young man has used his ability to the best and is now in position to be a part of history. to reiterate, best of luck to both.

Not sure how many yards Jude needs to get the record, but if its over 200 it will be hard to do against Belfry friday. He needed to get at least half of what he needed against Ashland dont think he did.:eyeroll:

Jude has absolutely zero chance of winning Mr. Football. Mr football is picked by the AP guys as we all know. AP guys pick Mr. football on states. Johnson Central is one of those schools who refuse to report stats weekly. They have not reported all year. This can only hurt Judd. It in no way can help him. The AP guys in Lexington, Louisville will have no idea that Judd broke the most coveted football record in the state of Kentucky. Sure his name will be in the record book at a later date but that will not have any impact on Mr. Football. If I were an AP guy and I knew that Judd is the all time record holder for rushing yards how can you not vote for him for Mr. Football.

After week 9
Jude's exact numbers are yet to be found.
Ive head 53, 74, 81?
For now, lets just assume Jude got 80 yards friday night.
Wales ran for 278 yards.
So after week 9,
Jude is 200 yards away from the record.
Wales is 719 yards away from the record.
