Almost over with first quarter.
JC stopped Rowan on the first drive. Then scored. Rowan then scored on a 21 yard pass from Wing to Blank. JC answered with a 1 play, 83 yard drive on one carry by Jude. So far, Jude has 4 or 5 carries for 155 yards and 2 TDs. 14-7 JC.

Wing's fumble recovered by Rusty Baldridge for JC, Eagle football. Also, Wing helped off the field, apparently injured, status unknown.
Next play - Jude carries for 30 yards and the touchdown. 7 seconds left in first quarter. Jude 5 carries, 185 yards, 3 TDs. JC 22, RC 7. (Jude also ran it in for two.)
Into game for QB at Rowan County, #7, freshman Justin Graham. Wing on sideline with helmet off.

Wing does return to begin the 2nd quarter, but the drive goes nowhere and Rowan punts; JC takes over just inside its own territory.
Jude carried thrice for 23 yards, 8 carries for 208. Gound carries for 20 more on the QB keeper. Jude carries again for 4. Time out with 9:19 left in first half. Still 22-8, JC.

Rowan goes 3 and out. Wing hasn't carried the ball against since he got hurt earlier. Punt.
JC takes over at own 35. Dillon carries for 17 to the Rowan 48. Gound overthrows pass. Dillon carries again for 8 yards with a 5 yard face mask on the end of that. Dillon carries again for 2 yards to the 33. Jude carries for 13 down to the 18. Jude carries for 7 yards. Dillon carries it the rest of the way, 12 yards for the TD.
5:13 left in 2nd quarter. Dillon now with 39 yds and 1 TD, Jude with 11 carries for 250 yards for 4 TD. Davis's kick is good. JC 35, RC 7. And a personal foul on Rowan will be assessed on the kickoff; Davis already has kicked off a couple of touchbacks tonight...

JC catches Rowan County off guard with an onside kick after the kickoff penalty and recovers it (Daymion Belcher with the recovery).
Gound throws incomplete toward Preston. Jude carries for 14. Jude lost 4 on next play. Gound keeps himself for 14 yards. Jude carries for 4 yards and the TD (15-269-5).
Jude now with 15 carries for 269 yards, 5 TD. Davis's kick makes it JC 42, RC 7 with 2:53 to go in the first half. Gound now with 34 yards rushing, Dillon with 39. WSIP said with that last carry he passed Michael West on the KHSAA's all-time rushing yardage list.

JC is clearly the better team and will win in a walk. The onside kick accomplishes one of two things...BOTH BAD If it fails, it opens the door (a little) for RC by giving them a short field. If it succeeds, it just embarrasses a team that is already reeling.
I love trick plays and watching teams successfully execute the unexpected. In a case like this, I think it is classless, regardless of the coach or team that does it, including mine.

What are you talking about? A team can play great defense while their offense scores a lot of points without embarrassing anyone. As for the record, just think how impressive it would be if it was earned while playing only 2 quarters per game.

Wouldn't really call it a true onside kick!!! We kicked off on the Rowan 45 and he squibbed it about 15 yards and it hit a Rowan player and bounced backwards about 5 yards. I don't think it would have made any sense to kick it out of the end zone.

A better question is, why should a kid be arbitrarily prevented from an unprecedented career achievement because his team is good? How unfair is that to a kid who has a once in a lifetime chance?
Final numbers: 21 carries, 425 yards, 6 TDs for Jude. 10 carries, 100 yards, 2 TD for Josh Dillon. That from WSIP.

Good to know the haters love us so much. Means we must be doing something right. I hope when that record is broken, the haters get to look at "Johnson Central" beside J.J.'s name on the state record book, and I hope they hate seeing that as much as I'm going to love it as long as it's there.

If you are talking about HHS, I'm sure they would rather look at all their championships than an individual record. Nothing against Jude, but there have been 100 backs that could have rushed for as many or more yards if their coach padded their stats like Matney is doing.

Actually he was still in when it was 65 - 0 in the first half.
First of all, I don't get to decide when a player gets pulled from MY team. Secondly, Mueller believes in (right or wrong) playing his starters for the first half and one series in the blowouts. After that, it is all about the backups.
What kind of numbers do you think Towles, or Guidugli or Lorenzen would put up playing 15, 4 quarter games a year? I think all three are happy with the state championships they helped their teams win.

Really not much to lose if it goes bad and the game was still early. Rowan has put up big numbers all year and couldn't count them out with a QB like Wing and RB like Williamson.
